Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) on Stevie Nicks
Last week's Monday Dave Stewart visited "The Bob & Tom Show", a US comedy radio program, on which he sang and played "Here Comes The Rain Again", "Don't Come Around Here No More" and "Lily Was Here" with an acoustic guitar to a backing track live in the studio plus improvised a "Bob & Tom Blues" towards the end of his more than an hour visit. In between he told some news and personal stories.
Besides how it is working with Ringo Starr, The the old and new Traveling Wilburys and Annie Lennox, living with George Harrison and how experiences with his French teacher formed his sexual life, he explained that unfortunately his French solo album with singer-songwriter Carla Bruni is on hold for longer after she's even more busy now being president Sarkozy's wife. Regarding "Off The Record" he revealed that four different artists are talked with for future specials. Then Dave gave a first reading from his Songbook book about how "Don't Come Around Here No More" came around: When he first met Stevie Nicks (who just split up with Joe Walsh as he found out later) in 1984, she invited him to a private party consisting of not much more than "marching powder" and three more women. The song emerged when she asked Dave the next morning to better leave her house quickly after she just had sex with him (twice according to her) which was followed by some explosive situations involving Jimmy Iovine and Tom Petty. So much for a first appetizer, don't worry, not all stories are as delicate - more about the Songbook book here soon. To download the Bob & Tom radio show (mp3, 57 min with Dave), you need to become a "VIP member" (cheapest: $6.95 for 1 month membership) and sign up here. https://members.premiereinteractive....ikey=99987IGTZ |
Link please? Where did this story come from?
|
Sickening.
Sometimes she really reaches down deep in the barrel to scrape the bottom good and hard. That guy is f#@*ing nasty. He looks like a damn goblin. |
Interesting story is that it or is there more?

My friends may say that I have unusual tastes in men, but DAMN, Stevie reigns supreme for bass-ackward taste save a FEW choices. ;) |
So is Stewart trying to claim that Tom Petty would have gotten jealous as well as Jimmy?

Some people are able to be intimate with another based on attributes not physical. |
You're right. I should have considered that this cocaine-fueled romp ending with him getting kicked out of the house was some kind of transcendent love of the mind and soul.
|
So did he not remember if he had sex with her twice? Stevie had to tell him it was twice? That was some party;)
|
I like Dave....I like Stevie....HOWEVER I just don't see those two together?!?!?
|
Huh? I don't get it.... So is he saying Stevie believed she had sex with him two times or they really did have sex two times or at all for that matter? And what sort of explosive situations...about what??
I wonder if Stevie knows that song is about her as she sings backup on it. Considering how she complains about Lindsey saying she was "shacking up" in GYOW, and how she really wasn't shacking up with anyone, I would think she would be pretty offended by his account of this song. |
Stevie doesn't sing back-up on that song. Tom Petty said he used Stevie's back-up singers on a day that Stevie was not in the studio.
I went to the website of this radio show, and they have shows available for download, but you have to buy a membership. I would like to hear if he gives details on the "explosive situations". Incidentally, this is the second time that some cad has gone on the radio to talk about Stevie's private matters. Apparently, Joe Walsh did the same thing on Howard Stern. |
What did Joe say about Stevie???????

Well, I guess you could toss Don Henley into the mix as well in terms of "cads" who have aired out private matters. But Joe was an absolute raving drunk that Stern took advantage of at the time. Joe's cleaned up and been sober for quite a while. Stevie & Joe have managed to rebuild fences since that time. Stevie is "Sister Honey." 'Can we still be friends? The answer's always yes.' That's a Stevie Nicks trait that amazes me to this day. |
I don't really know what he said since I only read about it second hand. Something vulgar about how she was only a road lay.

I was on the wrong thread
I was just saying I bet Stevie had a man in her life, some torrid affair, and bingo, I was
on the Soundstage review part 2, like oh my but really Dave Stewart????? |
I disagree with judging a potential lover/relationship on looks alone and actually consider Dave Stewart to be attractive - he certainly is a lovely guy, not to mention immensely talented - but if you're wondering about a physical attraction, legend has it that the guy is rather well built downstairs if you get my drift. Remember, he and one of the most incredible women in the world, Annie Lennox, were an item for quite a few years.

I remenber reading in 84 in the star magizine that Dave Steward hung out at
Stevie's house and it was a wild party. So you can only imagine what transpired, but I think cocaine was talked about in a round about way. Also I listened to the Joe Walsh interview with Howard Stern, the interview was shortly after they perform for Clinton. He said some mean things. Howard wasn't nice either. One question he asked Joe was, when you did Stevie was she fat? And yes he said road F - - K, I got annoyed and stopped listening. I can't stand Howard, however I wanted to hear the interview and what was said about Stevie. How she can forgive him amazes me. But it is her life and I am sure we all made mistakes. Darla |
What I want to know is what were the explosive situations involving Jimmy Iovine and Tom Petty? She was already broken up with Jimmy and Tom was only a friend.

I have heard a version of DCAHNM where you can clearly hear Stevie's vocal. |
I think on the Tom Petty documentary they talk about the origins of this song. It was started by Stevie and I think some vocals were laid down but Stevie ended up not finishing it so Dave took over. I think those are Stevie's vocals on the song.
|
Maybe Stevie figures that they were all effed up on drugs and once it's out in the public what is she going to do? How many guys would she have to be hating on? lol
I remember Henley. I think I called him an enormous ass the last time we talked about it here years ago. I still think he's an enormous ass, no matter whether Stevie does or not. 'Tough mama' may have a little trouble coming to grips with the fact that these guys are asses. That would seem to indicate a humungous lack of judgement. Pride maybe? The power of illusion? Or just being coked out and banging. I dunno which. But none of them are too pretty to look back on. |
I like Don Henley's music and the Eagles as well....I don't agree with all the things they did back in the 'day'....just read Don Felders 'Heaven & Hell' book thats out.....very very interesting read....I'm up the the part of Hotel California....He only mentions Stevie a couple of times at this point in the book.....that she and Don (Henley) had dated on and off for 2 years.....he stated that he is friends with her (that is Don Felder) to this day....and it is seperate from her relationship she has with Don Henley....he said he never spoke about Stevie with Don H either.....You may not like Stevie's relationships but well there hers.....she has to deal with them...not us.....and well if she can be 'friends' with all the the past men in her life so be it.....it is her life after all.....and what does being mad all the time and pissed off accomplish really. It really only hurts 'you' in the long run really not them......just some thoughts.....anyway......
|
It doesn't totally sound like Stevie to me. It sounds like Marilyn Martin.
|
You don't have to go around 'pissed off' all the time, but I don't think she should be looking through rose-colored glasses and calling some of these guys friends. I don't think a 'friend' goes on to say you were a road f**k, or a friend blabs to a national magazine about an abortion. Who would keep guys like that in their life? And why? And write songs praising them. It smacks a little of twisted thinking. How about 'don't go away mad, just go away'?
Seems she was angrier at Lindsey for a long time for a LOT less. Humph. |

Indeed, Joe was there. And, according to a fan who gave a review on The Nicks Fix, he was also at Stevie's concert, backstage, during the Cleveland at Blossom Music Center, and Stevie acknowledged him there. (6/25/05)

Crazy. |
And Stevie just did that Platinum Weird stunt to help promote Dave Stewart's band. This is the thanks she gets.

You bring up an interesting dilemma, Luke, but it might be a faulty dilemma. I don't know that Stevie likes Joe better than Bob Welch, but she certainly spent more time with Joe in the past, calling him one of the "great loves in herlife," the only one that she would have given up everything for; but after their falling out, she didn't LIKE Joe for a long time. (although perhaps there's was some of that "tiny spark" somewhere in her heart for him; past relationships are so complicated!) But regarding the incident that Bob brought up on The Rumours board recently, Bob has indicated he isn't absolutely certain Stevie even got his message. Stevie has helped Bob out on several occassions professionally, according to his Q&A here on The Penguin. Bob was already well known, building on his own name and career in his own right after leaving Fleetwood Mac. Stevie was a mega name in the biz at that time, even according to Bob, within and outside of Fleetwood Mac. I don't know if Bob ever offered help to Stevie on her albums or touring, as he had his own stuff going on. Joe was an opening act for Stevie. Dragging other Eagles back in for a moment- Don Henley & Stevie have certainly collaborated over the years- and Don is on three of Stevie's songs that I can think of (Leather & Lace, Highway Man, Reconsider Me)--I don't know of any Joe musical collaboration with Stevie. Anyone see them on stage together at all during The Wild Heart tour for anything LIVE? And former Eagle Bernie Leadon helped Stevie out with acoustic & electric guitars, mandolin, and background vocals. |

I haven't heard about Joe on One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star before- anyone else know about that one? |
Update: You are correct viv. I checked The Penguin's discography:
http://discog.fleetwoodmac.net/songs...442&perfid=969 "Jimmy Iovine (Produced By), Waddy (Robert) Wachtel (Guitar), Joe Walsh (Guitar), Kenny Edwards (Bass), Steve(n) Jordan (Drums), Bill(y)/William Payne (Synthesizer), Sharon Celani (Background Vocals), Lori Perry-Nicks/Perry/Nicks (Background Vocals), Marilyn Martin (Background Vocals), Stevie Nicks (Vocals)" |
Has it occurred to anyone that Dave Stewart's comments may have been said in jest? He is known for messing with the press so I'm just wondering if the whole thing could have been a piss-take?
