Soundstage Dvd Shortage!!!??

EDIT: Last night there was a phone number at the end of the broadcast where you could order the DVD for 19.99 plus 5.00 shipping. You can also order it off of the PBS website.

I wasn't able to write down my confirmation number when I placed my order this morning so I decided to call them and get it.

1. She told me to call back Monday because they can't access the info.
2. I asked about when (roughly) it would be shipped
3. She told me they have been overwhelmed with orders and they will most likely not be able to fulfill my purchase that this time but they are ordering more.
4. Credit cards don't get charged until the order ships.
5. It can take up to 7-10 business days to receive it once it ships.
6. It COULD take up to 1 month for it to ship depending on how many orders are ahead of mine.

SO Glad it is selling so well! GO Stevie!! Just hope it gets here soon!!!

Well, ROCK ON, Gold Dust Woman! :woohoo:

I hope it works out for you soon eric, but it's still great to hear Stevie's doing so well!

eric51078 07-18-2008 01:51 PM

I am super thrilled it is selling so well!!!

Richard B 07-18-2008 02:00 PM

How can there be a shortage when it is not even released yet?
I'm confused.
Also, you never mention where you ordered it from.
Where did you order it?

eric51078 07-18-2008 02:01 PM

I ordered it this morning from PBS.

Thanks for posting the ordering info~ much appreciated! I have a question, though...I thought I had read that they were going to release the DVD with a live CD too...has that been officially cancilled? I only ask because that would be the one I would rather have (I mean both!) and I don't want to order this one, and then have to turn around and get it again to get the cd (which I know me, i will do anyway) so if anyone has any info on that ( I also seemed to think I remember that it was supposed to be released in September???)

Thanks!!

Musicman408 07-19-2008 09:05 AM

I think I'll have to try and order it on PBS's website. And if there is a chance that by doing that it would get here before september, I'm ALLL for that.:)

That's what I'm trying to figure out. What's this package going to consist of? I'd like to have it earlier than September, but I can wait if I can get the audio and dvd together. I'd like to see some tracklistings on various sites to prove accuracy.

Same here. I honestly do not think ordering from PBS is going to get you the DVD any earlier than street date. Sure they're taking orders, but I seriously do not think it will ship until later.

Also, I do not know of any Soundstage release ever having multiple versions. So it is what it is and perhaps a bonus CD version will also be released towards street date.

Having said this, obviously the DVD is already manufactured and ready.

Yea, especially now that it is backordered. I'm just concerned about all the typos and discrepancies I'm seeing. For instance "I Need To Know" wasn't supposed to air on the televison broadcast and it was on part 1. So, I think I'm just going to wait this one out. I kind of want to support PBS too for airing this. You know telling them what good taste they have. I'd like to see them film FM next year on their tour. So this might encourage them to do it and have a fund raiser type of program. I think they do an excellent job with their productions.

I also wish iTunes would pick up the Soundstage TV Shows too. PBS offers some of their shows via iTunes and Soundstage would be a great addition. I've liked almost all of the Soundstage productions. Great series and yes, PBS deserves the support.

As for your great idea of filming FM next year would be great, but in addition the DVD concert package, it should have a film crew along to document the (perhaps) farewell tour backstage and on the road. While their at it, might as well throw on a special feature section that contains all their music videos. And finally, have a blu-ray version.

I think you've got some fantastic ideas there Richard. We need to start a petition of sorts.

My guess would be that ordering it from PBS will get it long before the street date. PBS gets a bigger cut than if you buy it later on. Most likely PBS figured out that the demand is there so they made a deal where they have the exclusive right to the DVD for now.
Buy it thru them and they get the cut, or buy it later at Best Buy or wherever and they don't get the cut. I would expect that ordering it now, will get it to you long before September.

Well then I definately think I'll have to do it.

Well I think this makes sense. Wanting to support PBS, I went ahead and ordered it from them. $19.95 + $4.75 S&H. As Richard said, it is what it is. The dvd you get from Soundstage will be the one you'll get anywhere else. I'm seeing that the dvd and cd is listed separately on Amazon and not offered as a package deal(yet). So, I think maybe I'll just get the cd later from them. I'm going to have most of the show taped from the PBS broadcast anyway, so I can wait to see the few songs that'll only be on the dvd, no matter when I get it.

Is the seperate CD listed as the same price as the DVD?

Also I was wondering if anyone could answer a tech question for me? In some TV's you can play a music CD. In some stereo systems made for CD's, can one play a DVD just for the sound?
Now if this can be done I might guess the CD has extra material the DVD doesn't offer. What do ya think? Anyone can answer this. Many opinions are desired.

I still seek the answer to the underlined sentence up top though.

No, you can't do that. You cannot play a DVD-A on a cd player. You must play it on a dvd player.

However, the extra material you were talking about is still a possibility. There are some CDs you can get that have multimedia material on them. FM's enhanced does. So you can get video on the cd. I wouldn't expect that to happen with Soundstage though.

As of right now the dvd is selling for $14.99 and the cd is selling for $18.98 on Amazon, both with a release date of September 9th. Makes me think that they are trying to cut into Soundstage's sales with the lower price? Cause it doesn't make any sense for the dvd to be cheaper than the cd.

DVD pricing has always seemed strange to me. I noticed that many times when there is a chance to get an artist's CD with a DVD or the CD separately, the CD by itself is priced the same as the DVD/CD package. I noticed this with both Amy Winehouse and Janet Jackson. Weird.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts on this...it is much appreciated!

Musicman408 07-20-2008 07:57 AM

Well shoot, I didn't know that there was going to be a CD of this show either....AH the options are endless....But I think I may just go with the DVD... but then again, with me going off to college, I may not have as much time to watch a DVD, and have more time for a CD, so maybe I should just get both.

Mine's on backorder. I'm really curious about a cd copy now because I think it sounds great. And what songs will make the cut.

sywlindseyfan 07-23-2008 07:07 PM

I have a feeling that Sara will not be one of those cuts, for some reason I feel as if Stevie doesn't want it re-cut- or re-distributed unless with the mac. But then Iwho am I to say this?? Just on overly obsessive fan.

whitesoxx 07-24-2008 01:19 AM

Of course Sara will make the cd :-) She performed it especially at the request of the show's producer and the live version turned out very well, and I think it's one of the songs most casual fans as well would like to have on cd and therefore will generate sales.

GODDESS6 07-24-2008 07:22 AM

You can check the staus of your order on PBS' site with your order and confirmation numbers. Chances are, if you just recently ordered, it's on backorder. I ordered mine on July 19th and it is on backorder. :wavey:

sywlindseyfan 07-24-2008 06:05 PM

I Hope you guys are right, and I am wrong about Sara, it really was a fantastic song for the show, I raised the telly all the way up and yeled for my mom, and I told her " Can you believe it?!?!?!?!? She hasn't sung this song in a millllioon years!!!" haha (excluding SYW) She and were both very excited, a special mother and son moment.

I ordered mine at 6pm on July 17th before it even aired anywhere - and it's on back order... which leads me to believe that maybe they didn't have any at all to begin with!
