New album front cover picture

i can't stand the picture that's on the front cover of the new album. for pete's sake...his wife is a photographer! can't he get a better picture than that? he looks hung over.

JbbyStew86 07-12-2008 09:04 PM

i dont know though, it looks like the typical buckingham album cover.
compare this one to Law and Order or Out of the Cradle. Almost identical concepts and style. Buckingham has never had an album cover that didnt have a head shot or at least a full shot of himself on it. Same with Stevie, the album covers remain the same throughout!

Maybe there will be some better pictures in the linear notes. He might look depressed (or like he's taking a dump) on the outside, but within there may be a treasure trove of jolly Lindsey frolicking through a field of flowers with his guitar and whatnot, or possibly a nice color photo collage with him wearing every color t-shirt other than white and black. You never know, but negative we should not be.

As for his connections: much as I think Kristen is lovely and all that...she's not exactly Linda McCartney, from what I've observed of her repertoire. But to each his own. :wavey:

Maybe he always looks hung over and she doesn't have anything to work with. Photoshop can only work so many miracles.

Actually, this photo looks like a frame from one of Lindsey's do-it-yourself videos. Kristen might have taken rolls of gorgeous photos of him and he decided that this shot best represents his inner demons.

I wonder what kind of videos we're going to get for the new album! I'm sure he making some as we speak.

I agree. Looks like he's on the toilet.

A friend of mine sent me this:
Came across this quote, which seems relevant to the Gift of Screws cover art:

"Now, I am a Catholic, and my Church teaches that 'despair' is a sin (since it involves the abandonment of hope in eternity). So I opt instead for 'desolation,' which is not a sin, merely a psycholigcal response to everything around one being in an advanced state of disintegration."

Why am I the only one who likes the damn cover pic?!

This new pic reminds me of this pic taken during the Tusk days. I don't know why Lindsey is always trying to be all artsy all the time. I'm sorry, but seeing pictures of Lindsey sitting on the floor in front of a bed with his eyes closed or seeing him without shoes on is not artsy or original.

You're not! I like it too. Who says that the cover has to be a "pretty" picture?

I LOVE the cover pic!!

To put it in simpler terms, I guess, than those my friend provided/discovered. . . I would say that Lindsey looks like how I look when I'm watching the news or reality television.

Billo 07-15-2008 04:57 PM

Agreed. I dig the cover too. It has that homegrown, rough feel to it, akin to a home demo. He seems to enjoy that vibe.

I actually find the disdain for the cover to be pretty funny, in fact.

Or is it his tribute to the out of focus cover of Blonde On Blonde?!~?~!? :D

TrueFaith77 07-15-2008 05:24 PM

God I wish I had hair.

Anyway. . . there's a poll on this blog about the album cover!! Come vote!!!

(ok, it's my blog. . . under construction)

Cover Shot

Because THIS picture is so much better.......
I have to try and find it....
Sorry for the delay

AlanC 07-20-2008 07:00 PM

I think the cover personifies who he is now---older, wiser...but still the mad man genious.

I don't think you could say that to Bob Dylan... ;)

oceantales 07-22-2008 12:28 AM

I think the cover has a meaning... its identical to the Law and Order cover... same colors and same pose by lindsey.. everything.... perhaps this is his way of saying its his last solo album... the whole full circle thing...

Interesting way to look at it. You might be right.

I'm going to try and not think about that...:distress: I need many more Lindsey albums in my life.

But anyway, the picture, to me, is just a picture. I don't see it as a reincarnation of the L&O pic, because I think that was more cheesecake than anything. It's just Lindsey looking gloomy into the camera. It's just raw and honest and probably exactly how he feels like expressing himself these days.

I agree and more than looking gloomy, I think it's kind of a deliberately goofy look. I just think he's playing around.

Sorry ocean, still don't see it...

But this topic did get me to look back at all his album covers and, hands down, OOtC owns. He was just gorgeous during that period, superficially speaking. And as far as FM album covers I'm going with SYW because it's the one (and probably only) time I have seen Lindsey in leather pants. Whoever suggested that to him deserves a :xoxo:.

I'd have to pick Go Insane and Mirage as my favorite solo and FM Lindsey album looks.

I think Law and Order was very gorgeous, but it doesn't really remind me of Lindsey. It's just some generic, bronzed dude. Michele

My one friend (who isn't an FM/LB fan) thinks Lindsey looked incredible during the Mirage era and if I were to ever have her watch anything FM-related she'd probably ask me to play the Hold Me video over and over. She says in that video he is easily in her top 10, but otherwise not so much.

Me? I think, after OotC, his second-best period (looks-wise) is a tie between Tusk and SYW. Hot.

I think Lindsey is so sexy during the Mirage NTF. But looks wise, I'd have to go with 1987. He's too die for in Little Lies, but I just think Seven Wonders is out of this world. If he looked like that now, I'd be howling through the whole show, I wouldn't wait until Holiday Road.

However, even if he looked very ugly, I would love him just as much anyway. Promise:laugh:.

I just saw that awful thing scrolling by on the front page. Terrible! He looks like an damn Alzheimer's patient looking glumly at a world that confuses him.

Well, because I think it's silly, I think it has a certain Lindsey charm, but when you put it that way, I do wonder what casual fans will think. They haven't seen this guy from Fleetwood Mac for awhile and they look at that album cover and think he must have had a VERY hard life these last few years. I think I'm looking at somewhat of a clown, but they might conclude that he's a used up, broken man, just from the photo.

Perhaps they will be inclined to purchase the album to "figure out" what this sad man has to say and what his art has amounted to and, in turn, LB may have more record sales (and converts) as a result.;)

Nico is right, the cover is absolutely irrelevant to the music inside. It's an intriguing picture, nothing more, nothing less. The music is all that matters. If you think his picture looks 'distressed', look what the brilliant Peter Gabriel did for his 3rd solo album cover.

It's a downright disturbing self-portrait that I'm sure had all his fans wondering "What was he thinking?!!" Despite the horrifying cover, the album contained some of his best solo material ever. So, while it's fun to speculate & over-analyze every little tidbit that comes along, even a simple picture, just remember it's THE MUSIC that matters!

But Michel Gondry (music video director, filmmaker) buys albums for the cover art. He says (and I paraphrase): "If you love the cover and you look at it while you listen, it will make you love the music."

I love this cover for GOS.

The less you know about an artist, the more you might be likely to form a summary opinion based on the album art. If you like the artist already and know his material, it's not going to make a bit of difference.

True, but honestly, I'd like him to give the album a CHANCE! We've seen MANY great pictures of Lindsey:

This cover was great:

and any of these pictures would work:

even something OBSCURE would be better:

I was laughing as I put it up Michele.

michelej1 07-26-2008 05:26 PM

Of course, the album being Gift of Screws, the most logical album covers would be:

1. A picture of Emily Dickinson (assuming Lindsey's GOS pose)

2. A picture of screws, all tied up in a gift bow.

Michele

bikerchic 07-27-2008 09:32 AM

I love the cover. It's so Lindsey. It is called "Gift of Srews" after all. I think it's fitting. I cannot wait for this album to come out!

oceantales 07-27-2008 11:16 PM

never liked the cover to law and order.. my favorite cover is prolly mirage :D

michelej1 07-27-2008 11:20 PM

I've been thinking about the idea someone posed that LB was trying to recreate Law and Order here. If he was, I consider it a half-hearted attempt until he takes his shirt off!
