Gift Of Screws Tour: Dream Set List?
So Lindsey is venturing onto another tour and I got to thinking that it wouldn't be so bad if he could try some new songs- aside from what may (hopefully) be on the (hopefully) new album. He has a lot of things from his solo albums, and even Fleetwood Mac, that I wouldn't mind hearing over, say, "Trouble" acoustic or even gawdforbid "Go Your Own Way." I realize he will most likely do both songs, but it's still nice to dream. I mean, where's the love for things like "Mary Lee Jones" or "Walk a Thin Line" or the entire "Out of the Cradle" album? Hopefully this tour will have a bit of an edge, and maybe a totally different feel...so I propose we all come up with about 12 or so songs we'd like to hear and have some fun with it. Can't forget that there *may* be an album with new songs of course. I'm just excited at the whole "rock album" idea. I couldn't ask for a better theme for Lindsey.

Here's my 12 songs (in no particular order)
Turn It On I Want You Don't Look Down Countdown (original style) This Is The Time I Know I'm Not Wrong Save Me a Place Eyes Of The World Bleed To Love Her My Little Demon Mary Lee Jones Say We'll Meet Again (last song) and, instead of doing "D.W. Suite", he should do a cover of one of Dennis Wilson's best songs from Pacific Ocean Blue, as a tribute, and to help the CD sales out! |

He just seemed surprised people were screaming OOTC songs out. I nearly passed out when he played Turn It On...I wouldn't mind if he kept it in either as long as he does Countdown too. |

LMAO thats great. Only maybe he WOULD do a sick Skid Row 18 and Life. I just dont know.... My dream show: 1. Don't Look Down (With Instrumental Intro) 2. Eyes Of The World 3. What Makes You Think You're The One 4. Book Of Love 5. Cast Away Dreams 6. Try For The Sun 7. Shuffle Riff 8. Dont Let Me Down Again 9. Goodbye Angel 10. Twist of Fate 11. Big Love ALBUM VERSION 12. Bang The Drum 13. Turn It On 14. A Satisfied Mind 15. Go Your Own Way...of course. I think maybe throwing in "Thats How We Do It In LA" and "Empire State" would be nice for those respective places, despite me never being able to see that being in DC. |
Re: OOTC:
I wouldn't be at all that surprised if Lindsey views that album as incredibly dated/irrelevant (in lyrical content, as well as the horrifically dated- even for 1992- production values), and winces at the thought of performing those songs on stage. Plus, lets not forget the fact that Lindsey & his label both went on a full-on blitz to promote the hell out of that album. As we all know, the album sold poorly (with Lindsey only 5 years removed from Tango, and 15 removed from Rumours); Lindsey has nothing but bitter resentment for those years, based on everything I've heard. That said, I'd be quite pleased if he did Countdown, You Do Or You Don't... maybe a more guitar oriented Surrender The Rain, if he could pull it off. Closing the show with Say We'll Meet Again every few shows or so. All fine by me. However, we don't need a Come-esque masturbatory guitar epic like This Is The Time- IMO, the worst song he's ever recorded, solo or with FM. As it is, for all we know, he's already (re)written one for the new album. Speaking of another POS, in lieu of Doing What I Can, how about (for the first time ever) performing Big Love with a full band? I'd love to see that- and I know I'm not alone. |
This is just too easy, in no particular order
1) Oh well 2) Countdown 3) Turn It On 4) Twist of Fate 5) Come 5) Not that Funny 6) This is the Time 7) Eyes of The World 8) Got to Get away 9) Time Bomb Town 10) Shuffle Riff 11) Book Of Love 12) Red Rover. 13) Dont Look Down And a few New Songs I really think the above list of songs is a great mix of old and new and at the same time a fresh change from the usual same songs lindsey plays all the time. Dont get me wrong I'd miss go your own way alot if i was there and he didnt play it. Its a hard call for Lindsey I guess. What percentage of the crowds at these shows know every single one of lindseys songs like we do. Its maybe always better for lindsey to throw in the old crowd pleasers. Hes obviously more careful now than what he was in his 'Tusk days' |
I love making these things. I think about dream setlists all the time. Just off the top of my head.....and there are more than 12....so like a full show- add a few new songs into the mix:
1. Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind 2. Trouble 3. Monday Morning 4. Tango in the Night 5. Turn it On 6. Countdown 7. Big Love- electric 8. Go Insane- acoustic 9. Try for the Sun- acoustic (sing w/ Stevie if she shows up at any shows) 10. Twist of Fate 11. Red Rover 12. Gift of Screws 13. Go Your Own Way 14. Eyes of the World 15. Bleed to Love Her (full band) As it doesn't seem he is venturing anywhere near the south, i probably won't get to see anything like this, but the rest of you have fun. Hopefully he'll add some shows.... |

Yes, Time Bomb Town would definitely be on my list. TITN as well. Michele |
I was going to apologize for not having anything from UTS on my dream setlist. But since Lindsey nearly left out the entire OOTC album from his last tour repertoire...well, no apology!
To create such a masterpiece as OOTC and then toss it aside like unwanted baggage, well I don't know what to think of that. UTS is a brilliant album as well, but maybe he'll conveniently forget it and instead play some rarely heard gems (or even some interesting covers). I'd love to hear more great ideas, please keep them coming! (still waiting for a certain Ledgie to post their dream setlist -- you know who you are ;-) |
I for one think UTS completely OWNS OOTC, and appreciate the comments above re: the outdated production on Cradle. I'd love to see Don't Look Down tho.
The only other monster that I'd kill to see that I haven't seen mentioned here is: That's All For Everyone Play it LB, c'mon fella! |

Here is a short list of songs I'd love to hear on a tour: Oh Diane Tango In The Night (I'm really tired of ISA) Don't Look Down Surrender The Rain Shadow Of The West Can't Go Back Walk A Thin Line |

Or it's quite possible he purposely avoided the album because it conjures up a lot of sad memories...weren't many of the songs related to his family? Perhaps it is more difficult to return to those songs after so many years and realize again that those people he loved are no longer physically there. Yeah, I didn't read too much into that. But seriously, Out of the Cradle is such a masterpiece for me. I adore it. It totally owns the number one spot for me and kicked Plastic Ono Band to number 2. That's John Lennon for goodness sakes. |

Lindsey would say that Brett was responsible for the setlist. If that's the case, Mr. Tuggle has some 'splanin to do! Regarding the personal meaning of the songs, well that's true of Turn It On as well and that's the one he chose. I have noticed that where his brother is concerned, Lindsey can't even really seem to talk about it. Even the intros he did at the end of SYW when he mentioned his brother got him choked up. It seems easier for him to talk about his dad. Maybe it's because we expect our parents to go. We may not be prepared for it, but it's not as jarring as when a sibling dies young. It kind of upsets your whole concept of life's balance. Of course, children are the ultra hardest to lose. Michele |

Nevertheless, I want to hear some more variety and def. more OOtC and Go Insane. OMG, Slow Dancing? I would die. :blob1::blob2::xoxo: |

I must admit I didn't consider that LB may have intentionally left out OOtC songs because of their personal nature. When I embrace an album such as OOtC, I immerse myself so completely that I forget the artist's own personal stake in it. Which I guess is the hallmark of a great work. You take ownership, possess it, defend it and re-discover it over & over. Lindsey is really good at creating songs like that, isn't he? I really enjoy all these insightful comments! :xoxo: |
I'd love to hear:
Shadow of the West (I would DIE if he did this just him...and the guitar...sigh...) Doing What I Can You Do or You Don't Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind I Am Waiting Castaway Dreams (like he sang it on the NTL Documentary...jeebus that was pretty) Tango in the Night Drop: GYOW (OMG, blasphemy! Yeah, I know, but I have never cared for GYOW live much. Ban me if you must. LOL) NGBA Trouble Tusk World Turning Big Love (unless he does it differently) |
I still love GYOW live, but I wouldn't mind seeing it take a rest. I don't buy the whole, "fans will riot if I don't perform it" excuse. Even casual fans can live without GYOW, Dreams and Don't Stop, if you give them something exciting in its place. He said he thought of leaving GYOW off of The Dance and says the record execs wanted it on, but I think he likes it in the setlist a whole bunch too.
As absence makes the heart grow fonder, I'd be happy to see it leave his solo set and return for FM's tour. The classic song that I've never been into is ISA. I always enjoy it when I'm sitting right there seeing it live, but hearing it, whether on a studio album or on a boot, it is always something I'm perfectly happy to skip. Michele |
I agree to drop some of the big songs. I wish he would do Go Insane more like the album version as well, it's nice live, but idk, the album has more of a kick to it.
And I'm glad Christy agrees with me about droping World Turning. LAMEEEE!! He should seriously put something fans WANT to hear in its place....*cough*TITN*cough* |
I am so psyched about the tour, I'm not sure I care what he sings...but, since we're dreaming...
I would LOVE You Do or You Don't (I don't think it's the greatest song in the world but th lyrics are fabulous, and it helped get me through some tough times of my own, so it's a purely personal thing in that respect). I love the tone of All My Sorrows. Surrender the Rain...love that one I still would like Under the Skin (cry me a river of new dreams, float yourself free...sigh...) Make Me a Mask (how's that for semi-obscure?) You and I Part I (!) Tango in the Night (just so I could count how long he holds THAT note) And then about 20 songs he can choose himself! |
Murrow turning Over in His Grave
Eyes of the World Trouble Go Your Own Way Go Insane (Full Band) Johnny Stew Family Man My Little Demon Gift of Screws Twist of Fate Show you how Encore Holiday Road Loving Cup Down on Rodeo |

Now both Lindsey and FM like to do a trifecta, with 3 roof-raising songs in a row in the latter half of the show. I like the way that setlist structuring builds momentum. For that purpose, I would leave I Know I'm Not Wrong in the setlist. I would say the three strong in a row I would use would be I Know I'm not Wrong, Doing What I Can and GYOW. Tusk is well known and the crowd is very excited about it, but it's not performed with the fire that it used to have during FM's heyday. So, I'd be willing to have it exchanged for something rarer. I think it's great the way IKINW, which isn't known to casual fans, always manages to get such a great crowd response in concert. Michele |
I want to hear
thats enough for me (played with a banjo) monday morning blue letter thats all for everyone |
[I don't like to have this tour linked to the Bass Hall product]
Sioux Falls Classic Rock Station http://www.b1027.com/content/view/4157/74/ Lindsey Buckingham has announced a 27 city U.S. tour which kicks off on September 7th is Saratoga, California. Buckingham has labeled the trek the "Gift Of Screws" tour, after an unreleased late-1990s solo album that was rejected by his record company. The new dates will promote Buckingham's recently-released live CD/DVD which was taped last year in Fort Worth, Texas. Buckingham says the disc shows him performing at his best: "It's called Live At Bass (Performance) Hall. We chose it for the venue. The venue was just a beautiful performance arts center. We just knew that the show had sold very well and it just seemed like the place to do it. And it was also far enough along in the tour where we kind of worked out the bugs. It's a good cross section of songs from Under The Skin, which was the CD I had out last year, and other solo albums and of course a few Fleetwood Mac tunes thrown in." |
