Amy Winehouse's version of the Edge walk

GarboSpeaks! 06-29-2008 08:21 PM

smack em...walk away all "i showed you" like, then has to walk back that same direction...w/ a little unease I might add. Shame that first album is so cool, cause this woman is a cluster****. With the constant attention she gets, I think it feels for her like "why change." But omg, even in SN's heyday I doubt it was that pushy and crowded in the front. geesh

I would've decked that beehived bitch out so hard that rat's nest would've come flying off her head.

The album is great. She has the most promise of any female singer/songwriter I have seen in a long time. For contrast, here she is a while back:

Amy Winehouse is an incredibly talented young woman who has become quite a tragic figure, I think. She's falling apart in public and the public is consuming it. However, she's already becoming "tired" and now that she's been consumed people are spitting her out. It's actually really sad. Her anger in the first clip is uncalled for--and probably the result of drugs. What makes it worse, however, is the way in which public interest in her trainwreck behavior has eclipsed her musical abilities.

I hear she now has major health problems that are atypical of a woman her age.

She makes me ashamed to be English.

Amy doing th edge walk

I watched Amy Winehouse at Glastonbury festival at the weekend and I had such mixed emotions. She was stumbling on the stage, almost falling over and losing her hair, and that was sad, but I loved it when she got off the stage to have contact with the fans, and it reminded me so much of Stevie. Although somehow it wasn't the same, I don't remember seeing Stevie so obviously out of her head. I kept thinking well the Mac were on all sorts of things so what's the difference. But unfortunately in the UK Amy is quite a role model to the young girls, my daughter who is 9 and all her friends love her. It worries me the coverage she gets in the media - apparently there were blatant photos of her a few months back showing serious drug taking in the daily press and that is shocking for it to become the norm for 9+ year olds. I don't remember Stevie being like that. I feel that Amy is a lost soul, she is indeed a brilliant writer and singer and also very lost.:distress:

Truly. I hope she gets the help she so obviously needs. It makes me sick to see someone flush that kind of talent down the toilet.
And yes, Stevie and the Mac always did manage to pull it together for the show. Whatever they were indulging in only seemed to make them more compelling on stage. Amy is just a train wreck. There is nothing compelling about sloppy drunk performances.
Also, I think if Fleetwood Mac was at their zenith now, we'd have the likes of TMZ chasing them and posting god knows what. As it is, there is audio/video out there of them using illicit substances back in the day.

What gets me is the people around her not making her behave. If I were her manager, I'd lock her in a room (albeit a nice one) for six hours before she went on stage and then personally escort her to the stage with a cattle prod in hand to deflect the pushers. As far as I am concerned, they are enabling her.

As for La Nicks, I have seen her high as a kite on stage. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it was just tragic.

True. The Other Side Of The Mirror Tour comes to mind. I will never forget that performance, if it can even be called that. It was close to catatonic with some singing.

Exactly. I was really worried for her after that show. But, she seemed much better at the Dallas BTM show.

baboles 07-01-2008 06:57 PM

I saw Amy perform on the VH1 Concert for Nelson Mandela and she was kinda loopy. She seemed out of it and I could barely understand what she was singing. Some words seemed slurred.

That aside...I do think she has some amazing music and a great voice. I love her latest album, but I wish she would get her life back on track. I hope everything works out for her.

Interested in your comments as to whether you are talking about one particular show or the whole of the OSOTM tour, I saw her in the US in Texas and in UK London in 1989 and she certainly didn't have the same sort of stage problems that Amy Winehouse has.

I saw her at the Houston OSOTM show. She looked high as a kite and spoke with slurred speech. Moreover, she barely moved during the show. The show did, however, have some high points like when she introduced Sheila E., whose brother Michael was the precussionist. Also, during the Baton Rouge RAL, she was raging on a coke high and the show was fab.

I suppose so. I was probably just so excited to be at a Stevie Nicks show oneof the first ever for me (apart from Dallas the night or so before), that I didn't notice the slurred speech. But I did notice the fact that she hardly moved and I remember being surprised by that - however I thought the show was good and certainly no where near the sort of performance that Amy Winehouse gives in terms of being out of it. In London I was in the front row and certainly I didn't notice her being out of it, and no slurred speech, she was fantastic especially with HAEWAFY, B&B and the Edge. It was brought a tear to all our eyes even my friends who weren't particularly Stevie fans.

Honestly I think Red Rocks is awful because of this. She's not in her right voice and she just looks sloppy and awful. Hence all of the overdubs and close ups added later that just don't work. Still, it's not quite shoving a fan.

Amy was stunning, wow. I hope she can pull it together. I think Stevie never got that bad because she never just handed over her dignity, she maintained a certain level of self-respect Amy is missing.

Where you at the Houston show too -- small world ain't it ;)

I also remember she looked at if she was staring off into space when she spoke - kind of like Bette Midler daying "Hello Maaaaaaa" in "The Rose."

Thank goodness she is much better now.

vivfox 07-02-2008 06:27 PM

There's also a major difference in the drugs they did which have different effects on the body. Stevie sniffed her coke and Amy smokes her coke--a huge difference for any of you out there to understand.

Liza 07-03-2008 04:47 AM

Yes I was at Houston but not near the front. At that time with no Internet just trying to find out about US concerts was not straight forward, I used to write to Ginny Kimano (I thin that was her name) who ran STevies fan club, and 3 months later she would write with dates. In the end I visited the Modern Records offices in Sunset Boulevard which was an experience, tiny offices covered in all Stevie gold records, they gave me loads of information and posters and said that Stevie had been there that morning - shame just missed her. So by the time I got to see her I was so excited, I got a flight to Biloxi from UK only to hear on the radio the show had been cancelled at the last minute so we drove to Texas and got last minute tickets - and felt so lucky to get them.

Yes and the drugs are different now and according to the UK press Amy doesn't just do coke and doesn't just smoke it!!- if you can believe all that - who knows.

goldustboi 07-03-2008 06:11 AM

I was at Glastonbury last weekend and saw Amy Winehouse and more importantly saw her walloping the fan at the front! She was clearly rat-arsed during the performance but I thought the actual performance was amazing. If she is still using crack then its pretty unbelievable considering she's just been diagnosed with emphysema (at the age of 24!). I actually saw her at Glastonbury last year as well and the difference in the performances was huge, she could barely speak 2 words to the audience last year but then blew me away when she sang, this year you couldn't shut her up between songs and she kept going on about her beloved Blake (at which point people booed!)

I was going to go to the Biloxi show as well. Again, small world!

I was far back in the first section in Houston. It's so funny because I spent like $50 in long distance charges to Ticketmaster getting those tickets  I tried to rush the stage, but did not make it. But, I was like five to ten rows back and much closer than my seats.

I remember the band sampled from Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" during, I think, the Edge intro.

Hey what a coincidence. I can't remember exactly but I do remember the 'Billy Jean' thing, can't remember if it was Houston pr Dallas where they filmed a video as well and Stevie invited the audience to stay at the end of the show to film it, and while she was getting ready her backing singer - Lorry - started to sing Talk To Me, and the audience were going mad and Stevie came out and said ' hold on a minute - it's me you came to see' joking around - it was fabulous fun.

Anyway, maybe one day we'll actually meet up at one of her shows, you never know. Unfortunately I haven't got plans to come to see Stevie in the US - so much harder when you have children to consider!!!! You never know though.:wavey:

strandinthewind 07-03-2008 12:43 PM

^^^

I always do this. I saw the Dallas OSOTM show (at The Starplex I believe) - I did not see the Houston show. I am such a dingbat

I believe the Houston one is where they filmed.
