Ever find something totally awesome that had to do with the Mac? Post about it here!

Here's my greatest find:

Last year, I placed a wanted ad looking for Fleetwood Mac records. A guy responded, and said he had a few he'd like to sell. What records?

Bare Trees (original version sleeve)
Buckingham Nicks (gatefold with "COLLECTORS ITEM" on the front)
Live ('80 - spine was a little worn)
Mystery to Me (original version containing "Good Things (Come To Those Who Wait)" instead of "For Your Love". However, no lyric sheet was included.)
Rumours
White Album
Tusk
Penguin (sleeve/cover was a little worn)

All of the albums were in pristine condition, no scratches, and were all complete minus the lyric sheet from Mystery to Me. How much did I pay for all of this, you say? Twenty dollars.

I also found Go Insane in a pawn shop for a dollar, and Mirage on cassette for .75.

I guess my greatest find would have to be a rare bootleg of The Dance. I thought I had all of them, but I kept looking on tradelists and on Ebay. Lots of the video boots on Ebay are scams. Then I made an exchange with someone who wanted a copy of Lindsey's old Center Stage and they gave me a copy of a Dance boot that I didn't even know existed. It was bad quality, but still wonderful. That "new discovery" feeling was probably my greatest find.

Finding new records that I don't have is always a treasure. I'd have to say that all things considered, inheriting the Rumours Promo Penguin stand (penguins flanking either side of the Rumours cover) was a great thing. Scoring particular posters for kibble (while certainly others were not) was cool. Going into a record store owned by an a-hole of an individual, and because he wasn't there, getting the Almanac for $20 was SUPER cool. Hmmm, I guess also just finding pictures. Even though I am trying desperately to thin down my collection, each thing has a story, and a wonderful discovery they were.

My greatest find happened about 4 years ago...I had just moved to Philly, and I was in this little cd shop down the street from my apartment (that has since closed) anyway, as is my wont, I was searching through the used racks when I came across a box of unmarked cds and in it was an original copy of the ATT release 'Stormy Weather' that included Stevie's "At Last"... I had a burned copy, but couldn't get the original anywhere upon it's release...anyway, I, of course, scooped it up and went up to the counter to ask how much it was and the guy there said "Where did you get this from?" and I told him and he said "Oh those just came in, we haven't even looked through them yet..." so I said "So I can't buy it?" and he said "Nah, just take it..." and I walked out! I was so psyched...what a 'welcome to the neighborhood' gift! : ) Alas, I never found anything half as cool there again...

As i don't search for any rarities,my find is easy to think.
Buckingham Nicks.
Last year in Barcelona,a guy was selling records on a fleamarket in gothic town.
He had a few records that i thought were ridicilously priced,
Uriah heep's Magicians birthday,Nazareth's Razamanaz for 50-70€
When i saw Buckingham Nicks for 25€,i didn't think he'd sold it for less,but
when i asked if he'd sell it for 15€,he thought for only two seconds and said sure.
I walked away happy as a clam.
I made few other great finds there too,only other rarity was Iron maiden's A real live one.It hasn't been available on it's own for many years,but coupled with A real dead one.

Record buyers visiting Barcelona,see Ramblas,few really great record shops right next to each other.

My greatest FM-related find?

Jeremy Spencer's single 'Linda', with the otherwise never released studio version of 'Teenage darling' on side B.
Jeremy on guitars and vocals, John McVie on bass and Mick Fleetwood on drums.

It was quite expensive, about $ 20,-.

Hey...I also have the Mystery to Me album that lists that song and has the lyric sheet (It's written by Bob Welch). Yet, the song For Your Love is on the album. I assumed they printed the album cover before the band swapped songs.

Is the song "Good Things" on your album? I didn't think it was ever released!

I have come across (never while actually looking) some rare stuff:

* a poster advertising the performance of the Penguin lineup at a venue in Rochester, NY.

* the wonderful picture sleeve for the "Everywhere" single

* Danny Kirwan's Second Chapter on vinyl

* the British release of Then Play on, which has an entirely different picture sleeve

* the songbook for the Bare Trees album (complete with band photos and Danny Kirwan's four Kiln House songs)


I've always wanted the songbook for Heroes are Hard to Find, which I saw on ebay once but was outbid at the last minute. Anyone got it?

This is an easy one with two answers.

1) When I started my first newspaper job ('91), I cleaned out an abandoned, broken filing cabinet once used by an &E editor. One drawer contained nothing but music-related press kits, CDs, etc. Well, it was like opening the Ark of the Covenant when I found The Other Side of the Mirror promotional kaleidoscope along with the complete press kit for the CD. I didn't even know the kaleidoscope existed.

2) I found a still shrink-wrapped copy of Sandy Stewart's Cat Dancer at Nuggets, a used record store, for 99 cents. It was 1990.

My greatest FM-related find was probably this website. During The Dance I got computer access for the first time and found my way to this website and was amazed at how much information was here. I also learned about ebay and the Silver Springs Emporium.

Probably the 4ft by 4ft RUMOURS album promo poster from 1977. I got it on eBay and it was part of an estate sale...the poster looks brand new. I framed it with plexi and it's hanging in my man-cave at home (takes up a whole wall).

I won the FleetwoodMac.com quiz thing back in 2003 during the SYW promotions and got a signed 12x24 flat of the SYW will cover by all the band members.

I have a lot of signed Neal Preston prints too, from The Dance era that I really treasure.

Just to reiterate:

Yep, they didn't notify the printers of the switch in songs in time...the song never made the album, but it was listed on the first run of album covers & lyric sheets.

The song finally WAS re-recorded, retitled, and released on Bob's Three Hearts album as "Don't Wait Too Long".

Okay...I'm truly envious of the 4 x 4 promo poster. I need that hanging in my living room!

I do. You want scans of any of the songs? On The Chain, they make fun of me for posting sheet music, but I'll do it for you because you are intelligent & sweet & quite sane & also rational. You, like Beethoven or Voltaire, are a child of the Enlightenment.

My biggest "find" -- it's been so many years that I've been seeking & buying & trading & hunting & peckering that it's hard to remember what was the single biggest thrill, but certainly finding vinyl of many of those very old bootlegs -- like Almanac, Sin City, City of the Angels, Albatross But Not Around My Neck Please, Rock Around the World, etc. -- at Lincoln Hotel record swap & Santa Barbara Flea Fair in 1981-82 & Rockaway Records in Glendale, inter alia, would have to rank as huge thrills at the time (this was back in the TUSK days). Also big thrill at the time (although the items didn't belong to me) was seeing the Glass-Up-The-Ass Award (American Music Award 1978) with Stevie Nicks etched on it & listening to the acetate of THINK ABOUT IT & BATTLE OF THE DRAGON & a videotape of film footage of a '78 gig in New Orleans at Rob's apartment back in about 1985 (ripped off from Kim Anderson's "garage sale" at Stevie's former Marina del Rey condo). And the first soundboard recording I ever got hold of from Maureen back in whenever was a big thrill because for so many years I had bemoaned the quality of private recordings (she initially sent me one for free before she opened her "bidness" which was Sydney 3-15-80). But there have been dozens of great finds in my whirl.

Hey, David...did you ever go to the record swap meet they used to have in the parking lot of the Capitol Records building??

I have a few things but they aren't really a 'find' as such, cos I bought them.

A copy of Then Play On signed by the then FM line up.

One of Danny Kirwan's solo UK singles that he has signed.

A copy of Mirage album that has been signed by everyone who worked on their show(s) in LA. There are lots of sigs and messages saying 'many thanks' and 'best wishes' etc so I guess it was for someone working with them at the time.

I was a hugely active fan at the time, neck deep in it all with the other fans all over the country. We Mac'd ourselves silly. Man, we were a goofy lot, all told. :]

Some folks even think I worked at Obie Lighting. ;)

I was talking to a nurse one time about how big a Mac fan I was, and the next time I went to the doctor's office there sitting in my waiting chair for me was the original Buckingham Nicks album! Gatefold and in mint condition!!! And the other great find was a friend sent me the original promotional poster for the Buckingham Nicks album. Those items just fell into my lap.

Which show was it?

In 1987, at a swap meet type thing for music memorabilia, I once bought a large metal belt buckle (without the belt) that had an enameled image in purple of the word 'Fleetwood Mac' and a mysterious hand holding a glowing orb, a la the 'Rumours' cover.
I often wondered if this was licensed merchandise or some cheesie thing that someone concocted.
I never wore it (because I don't have purple shoes to match) but I used to keep it propped up on a shelf in my room.

Alas, like all my other FM/Stevie collectibles, tapes, records (including a 'gatefold' BN album), it has all been lost in one of my moves. :(

Uncirculated Rumours
 

Maybe a year ago, I scored two discs of the uncirculated rumours vinyl record set. I was so excited to have those rare Stevie Nicks demos to add to my Fleetwood Mac vinyl record collection.

Then, the other day, I was browsing ebay, when I came across a third record that belongs in the set! I had no idea at the time that I purchased the other two, that uncirculated rumours is actually a set of three! It seems like someone kept the best one (that has the Rhiannon demos, and the Silver Springs and Sara piano demos) and sold me the other two. :mad:

The thing is, I bought the first two discs for less than $50. And the third one, that is for sale on ebay right now, is going for $129.... So I can't afford to complete my set :distress:

SmileAtYou, I have that set too. I was lucky enough to get all three. Got them from a record dealer. I think if you keep checking Ebay you'll find the one you need or the whole set for a lot less than $129.00.

Pete, sorry to hear you lost those items in a move. Makes me sick just to think about it.

I got mine the same way too. I found the first two, and then a year or so later discovered the third. Except it was the other way 'round for me, the Rhiannon and Silver Springs etc set came first and I got the one with 'Battle of The Dragon' last.

I was in Germany, 1992, in a record store I found 2 mac things: a t-shirt from the Tango tour, that I used until it practically rid, and a Other side of the mirror poster, with Stevie in her red dress

I haven't really done the research to figure out how rare it is, but I was pretty excited to pick up a Buckingham Nicks LP for $20 last week in my hometown record shop. Definitely wasn't expecting to find it there!

Congratulations! Did you play the song WITHOUT A LEG TO STAND ON yet? If so, what do you think of it? Specifically, its use of the major 7 & the 6? Very reminiscent of GYPSY verses, do you not think?

LOVE that song, probably my favorite on the album.

When I was breifly living in Arizona in in the mid-eighties I was lucky enough to stumble on all three records. I can't remember how much I paid for them...but probably no more than $30 for the set.

Back then, without the internet, it was much harder to obtain unreleased stuff. I remember being completely "enchanted" by Stevie's demos. Forest of the Black Roses was a favorite. And I loved that the covers featured Stevie's artwork too.

The weird thing about those UNCIRCULATED RUMOURS vinyls is that those demos were out already on tape -- everyone had them on tape -- & for some reason people wanted the colored vinyl LPs too, even though they were scratchier. I think collectors drove up the price of those things.

I didn't feel it was really any harder; you just traded by mail. You hand wrote or typed your "list" & copied it & out it went to whoever asked for it. Plus you monitored the classifieds in the backs of the rock magazines, where you'd find dozens of Fleetwood Mac collectors selling goodies. Goldmine was a goldmine, too, as everyone knows, & the professional rock photographers used to advertise in Rolling Stone & other big magazines. In fact, in those days, getting a photos-for-sale catalog was a treat because often the seller would give entertaining descriptions of the photos (that was how you knew which ones you wanted), & usually would send a "sample," too. It was fun, them days (or maybe it was fun because I was a teenager). Plus, the band was actually still good back then -- that helped, too.

Finds. I went to this record show in Dayton back probably in 1989, and got two albums woefully abscent from my then young collection, which I had been trying to find for about two years. I first found an original pressing of "English Rose" for $15. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. But then, it got significantly better. I then found a fairly worn first US pressing of the ol' "Dog & Dustbin" album, which has a pink border, for $25. The blues blasted through my stereo that day.

Now, later that year, I found a copy of Buckingham Nicks, which was a great moment, too. But the others were utter magic.

My greatest find....Out of the Cradle on vinyl. Got it on Ebay for $25, I think it was. And...got Lindsey to sign it at one of the FM SYW shows in Dallas. It's framed and on my wall. :D

Last night I had a wonderful FM related discovery! My roommate and I visited our local record store... and we browsed for a long time... but the selection wasn't particularly great. We were on our way out the door, when I saw that there was a shelf nearby with lots of old magazines stacked up. I sorted through them when, to my delight, I discovered the February 1980 Rolling Stone! It was only $2 ! I am just a broke college student, so I dug up $2.19 in change and bought it!

It's the one with Mick holding Stevie up on his shoulder. The picture with the full band is on the inside, as well as a b&w pic of the band in the studio (that I had never seen before). The article is great as well! I really enjoyed reading it.

So I guess it's the five different Fleetwood Mac rings I found as a set on eBay. So far I've worn Lindsey to the Lindsey show, and I'll wear Lindsey, Stevie, John and Mac in '09 for the tour!
