Concerts So Far
Ok, so about every 5 month, we ought to re-cap on who's been where and what more may be coming. I found A LOT from all you fab concert goers earlier this year so what's next?!
So far this year I've been to Emo galore...way to many to list and prolly not a one of you could care less , Rilo Kiley Duran Duran Siouxsie Collective Soul ummm, that can't be all, I must be missing something.... This week I am going to see Jacob Dylan. The Cure. I just got word about Tina Turner in October (F'in A hell yea!!!!!) Tickets for Billy Idol 7/26...oh yea!!!! BFD 2008 6/7 Might now see Isaak w/ Boz Scaggs. Maybe Motley Crue...really wanna still see Neil Diamond. I am sure Maddie's gonna be out and about before year end.....agh. I LOVE concert season.... Who have I missed, or who still shouldn't I miss? |
So far, Rush, and Duran Duran, then im going to see the cure also in june.
Hey did you like the opener for duran duran!? they rocked, i bought their cd, then met them after the show, all really cool guys. |
finally got to see Roy Wood at Christmas, had to go...he was a real teenage idol of mine, so you know, gotta see them before they disappear and I'm glad I did ( he was great). Not planning on any more this year (oh...unless the Mac and Sheryl decide otherwise!)

Double D's
On a side note, I would never have known the name Roy Wood, but I FUGGIN LOOOVE ELO!!!!
Duran Duran was the best experience EVAH! They all still look amazing, and sound JUST like their recordings. Not in the sense that there could be a chance they are lip-synching, but in the sense that they still got it. Lots of ad-libbing, and changing things around that make me confident they weren't faking it on stage. WHY I had never seen them up until now is beyond me cause I love me some 80's and some DD. I had really wanted to see them on the Astrounaut tour, but was so sick. This made up for it! I didn't realize the Police were still out & about. I had wanted to see them too, but heard lots of bad things, and there just weren't any cheap nose bleed seats even available. I'd go see TP as well, but I think he's playing at one of our wineries, and any of the shows at those places are WAY pricey. NOT that TP's not worth it. I'm just thankful I saw him so many times w/ SN. That was another one where I asked myself...wtf took me so long?! |
I've seen a few concerts this year - it is good to live somewhere with plenty of concert venues.
I've just seen Duran Duran - very good indeed. Coming up - REM Dave Matthews (no relation!) Jakob Dylan Tom Petty Steve Miller (I had to agree to go to this so that my g/f would go see Ms Nicks) CSN STEELY DAN Stevie N John Mellencamp the average age of this lot must be 60!:) |
I'm hoping to go and see Cher in Vegas in August!
|
OOOH! Lucky girl Pip. That's gonna be AMAZING! We were thinking of that as well, but wanted to let the newness of it wear off. Maybe that's a bad thing. lol

I'm halfway through my spring lineup of shows.
Started out with Stevie in late April, which was pretty fabulous, especially since I somehow got from my 35th or so row seat to the stage in time for the Edge walk. Being so close to Stevie was pretty awesome! Matt Nathanson put on another great show, I've seen him six times now and he never fails to disappoint. He's one of those artists that is almost more enjoyable live because of his banter and personality. Lifehouse was ehhh, boring. It's always a little awkward when the opening act (in this case, Nathanson) puts on a better show than the headliner and that definitely happened at this show. Hanson was actually one of the best shows I've ever been to! I've been a fan of the band for 11 years but it was my first time seeing them live and let me tell you, those guys are showmen. Two and a half hour set, very energetic, great setlist, nice selection of covers thrown in and just an overall amazing show. I say to anyone who is like "Heh, Mmmbop" to give these guys a chance now that it's been 11 years, but this show got me saying that even more! Plus, I was introduced to an awesome band, Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, who opened. They are opening for George Thorogood next, which says a little about their versatility! Still have REM and Billy Joel coming up, and perhaps Chicago/Doobie Brothers and OAR if I decide to get tix to those. So far, so good! |
Def Leppard & Reo Speedwagon & Styx
Billy Joel Tom Petty Stevie Nicks John Mellencamp Heart & Journey & Cheap Trick |

The only "big" show I'm going to this year is Judas Priest/Motorhead/Dio. I wanted to go to Petty/Winwood but I can't be bothered paying like $30 for a lawn seat, especially since I've seen Petty before. Not worth it, imo.
Other shows I'm going to... X & The Detroit Cobras Mudhoney/The Cynics/Donita Sparks New York Dolls Eddie & The Hotrods Plus tons of local shows that I feel obligated to go to. Woohoo! |
I saw Stevie back in April in Reading
Going to see the Eagles in Philly on July 14 ZZ Top in September Maybe the Blues Traveler next month |
Possibly Rocklahoma II, this July in Pryor, OK (If my health holds out til then) :
July 9 Ratt Jackyl Rock N Roll Fantasy Camp July 10 Bobby Messano Bret Michaels Cockpit Dokken Enuff Z'Nuff House Of Lords JetBoy L.A. Guns Sebastian Bach Vain July 11 Armored Saint Extreme Gypsy Pistoleros Kingdom Come Living Colour Lita Ford Mindflow Night Ranger Triumph XYZ July 12 Black 'N Blue Cinderella Every Mother's Nightmare Gods Of Kansas Kix Lynam Pretty Boy Floyd Tora Tora Trixter Warrant July 13 Ace Frehley Axe Queensryche Tesla The Lynch Mob Featuring George Lynch UFO Zebra |
I got a chance to see Ace Frehley at a local club about a week and a half ago, and man you'd never know this guy was almost 60! He was smokin good!:) Rocket Ride was ther highlight of the night for me.

I want to go to so many shows but in the real world $$$ doesn't grow on trees! :distress:
I haven't been to a concert yet this year. In two weeks, Eric Clapton and in August going to see Journey/Heart/Cheap Trick. Waiting for Rascal Flatts tickets to go on sale and that will probably be it for me this year. |
Brian,
Wow, what a line-up! Night Ranger is one of my favorites. Have a great time! |
yesterday was the 40th birthday concert for the radio station i work for -- jealousy curve, silvertide, airbourne, ashes divide, the hooters, everclear, staind, and stone temple pilots. holy **** was stp unbelievable. however, i don't know that this tour will last -- scott is an amazing performer and singer but it's quite obvious the dude is still messed up. bums me out.
this weekend i'll be working at eric clapton at the borgata. i'm stoked. |

I saw STP at Red Rocks in '94 (I think). They were great but some asshole decided to start lighting off fireworks (cue the scene from Boogie Nights) in the middle of the show. Weiland was pissed and stopped the show because his then fiance (now wife) was sitting at the sound board in the middle of the audience. It's so sad that he can't get his **** together. :distress: |
So far,
Mark Knopfler Excellent, except he should stop playing Dire straits songs since it seems,he doesn't like singing them. John Fogerty Excellent,Last time i saw him,he didn't have the enthusiasm, now it's back, galore. Since his songs are so short, how does he play over two hours? btw.Billy Burnette is in his band. Kiss Not the best gig i've seen from them, still far better than i expected. Definitively worth seeing, despite the fact they played I was made for lovin you and **** version at that. Judas priest Again far better than i expected, Halford's voice is showing signs of age. Def leppard Very enjoyable gig,i was surprised they played a song from High'n'dry,Mirror mirror and especially Photograph.New songs sounded very good too. Blackmore's Night As always, great! Candice is absolutely charming stage persona. They had cut down on electric songs, acoustic works better for them. Lenny Kravitz Excellent and long gig. He doesn't understand the art of making the audience sing. Even if there are thousands of people, having them sing the silent parts, still sounds quiet. Bon jovi Great gig. It's a great sight to see 44000 people standing with their hands in the air singing along to the songs. All the way to the very back of the stadium. During the Livin on a prayer and Bad medicine it was so loud, all i could hear above the crowd were the drums . More to follow... |
So Far I've been to:
Stevie, April 20. Iron Maiden, June 20. I was surprised how much I actually liked them. I'm not a huge metal fan, but they are really really good live!!! Lindsey B, October 14. Can't wait for the tickets to go on sale!!! And I also saw George Carlin [rip] live in early May. Not really a concert, but a good live show. I don't go to many concerts really. This year and last year are big concert years for me!!! |
An out of nowhere show for me the other week was seeing Billy Idol. OMFG< he was AMAZING! Hot, hot, and hot...oh, and he sings well too! lol. Hit after hit, major stage charisma, holds his notes, some throw back 80' s going on w/ drum & guitar solos, but overall score 100%! LOVED it. If you like Billy, and have never seen him, go for it!
Also going to see Stone Temple Pilots @ the end of this month. Was supposed to be a surprise, but I just found out. lol. Kick ass thing, it'll be w/ most all the friends I was with one year ago that night as we saw Stevie @ the San Luis Fair. Cool. VERY diff performer, but it'll be fun. I hope STP comes thru! 8/6 Motley Crue.....sigh.... was never a huge fan, but dunno what to expect. It's a concert so it'll be fun, but are they still any good? Then a short hiatus before as many LB shows as I can get my hands on. lol If I haven't said it before, I friggin' LOVE a year of shows! Damn. Take all my money, but worth every cent! haha |
I got six Stevie's shows in this year and I have tickets for comic Lewis Black at the Mohegan Sun on the 19th of this month.Later I will see whos coming to the Fairs in Connecticut.also at the Big E in Mass.I wish I can afford more big ticketed shows in this year, but, I have to watch my money flow now and I have to start saving for next years Stevie/Fleetwood Mac tours if she or FM will hit the road.anyway you can see alot of shows at the fairs for cheap also meet and greet the artists too.

Summer's over now. After the last time:
Bruce Springsteen&the E street band Excellent gig,E street band was tight as ever,Bruce in excellent mood, song selection full of surprises. Iron maiden Great, great gig,Unbelievable feeling, band was in great force, audience going mad. Kris Kristofferson Very enjoyable, though hard to imagine more minimalistic performance. Large part of the set consisted of the songs included on the Essential compilation, the only record of his,i have,so that was a plus. Neil Young and his Electric band First time i saw him live and was pretty much as i expected. Used a lot of that wall of fuzz noise.Much preferred acoustic or acoustic mode with the band. Again,i don't have most of his records from last twenty years, luckily, large part of his set was from earlier years. Richard Thompson The opposite end of an acoustic gig to Kristofferson's. Full of fire and witty remarks. He knew how to hold an audience. If only i could see Linda live now. Stray cats Excellent band, excellent gig Pretty much a re-run from four years back, with as great gig as this, no complaints from me.Waiting for the next farewell tour. R.E.M. Never been a big fan of theirs,so this was also a very positive surprise. What i didn't expect was how upbeat they were.Shiny happy people indeed. Great setlist, varied, rarities and hits. This has been a fantastic year for gigs(as was last year) the only gigs for the end of the year are Supergrass(if there are tickets anymore)and Whitesnake. |
This has been a great year for me for concerts, too.
Flew to Anaheim (from PA) to see Stevie in February. Stevie again in April in Reading. Morris Day & The Time in June in Toronto Leonard Cohen in June in Toronto (It was like seeing Jesus.) Randy Newman this weekend in Toronto. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds in October in Toronto (I will just die.) GWAR in October in Columbus Hopefully Lindsey in October in Reading, also, if I can swing it. |
Heart solo at the Wild Horse Saloon- Excellent. One of the better concerts I've seen in awhile.
Pat Benatar at the Wild Horse Lindsey on Sept 25 in Tulsa |
So far this year it’s been:
Bruce & The E St Band – Live Emirates Stadium London. Great gig but terrible sound. I saw them end of last year at the 02 and they were superb. The Black Crowes – Live in Brixton. Superb. Gig of the year. Stevie Wonder – terrible gig at the 02 last week. Too much waffle and drum and percussion solo’s. Where were the classic hits? I guess he saved them till the end but I didn’t stick around that long. Left before the end. He stopped the music to talk about the death of his mother (I paid £70 to be entertained, not depressed.) He’s still got the talent but I’m afraid his setlist and endless talk about the US presidency spoilt the night for me. Next up for me is Status Quo in October. Should be a good night. Great live band. Sadly not quite as good a year as last for gigs. Bruce Springsteen and Led Zeppelin at the 02 in December were the real highlights. Cant really beat those two. And now I’m a little gigged out. Not many acts left that I want to see before they stop playing. Only really Fleetwood Mac and Bob Dylan. |
At this stage in my life, I am all 'concerted' out (Been seeing concerts since 1985 - A long time)
I used to enjoy concerts, but it now seems that the thrill is gone from the game (Last few shows I saw it has felt as if I was filling in the numbers with color so to speak) so for the unseeable future I will be sitting out the shows. |
Going to
Ozomatli and Michael Franti & Spearhead tomorrow night! |
After Stone Temple Pilots, I think I've not seen anything. Some summer wants slipped right thru my fingers. No Lindsey this go round, but my Northern adventure made up for it. DID try to atleast see him in Seattle, but no such luck.
Summer may be over, but I am still hopeful for end of year shows including Madonna, Tina Turner and Neil Diamond. How is it all these old farts tour in the winter...isn't it bad for their bad hips??? :sorry: kidding |
