Favorite Stevie Cover Song????

I was wondering what everyones favorite Stevie Cover song was?
I vote for The Coors version of Dreams. :)

michelle2677 04-11-2008 09:00 PM

bill doing sisters of the moon.

i like it better than any version of FMs  well, maybe it's a tie between that and the mirage-speaking-in-tongues one. but it's damn close.

danax6 04-11-2008 09:06 PM

I vote Bill's version of Without You. Oh yeah.

Speaking of... a few days ago at work I heard a cover version of Stand Back. It was on commercial Top 40 radio, but I couldn't place it at all. Am I that out of the loop that I missed a cover of Stand Back doing the rounds?

Mishypoo, pishypoo!! :wavey:
I've never heard Bill's Sisters of the Moon but would like to. Did he post a video? Good ol' Bill. He's a great singer -- he's better than Stevie, currently. The rhythm section should bring Bill in to the band & get rid of Mae West. Imagine how cool it would be to hear Sisters of the Moon, Angel, Gold & Braid, etc., again!

Imagine the joy of hearing Bill & Eliza (ragandbone) duet on Crystal or something.

But Bill needs to get out from under that swordfish mounted on the wall. One of these days, it's going to plummet to the stage floor & either hit someone in the band or create such a clang.

i totally agree. I played SOTM for a friend of mine (who is a stevie fan) and she said he sounds like a male stevie. if bill replaced stevie,i would still SO go see the mac.

I get to hear him play angel in 2 weeks :] but no SOTM :( I'll have to find out about G&B.

wow. that would be absolutely stunning. or insider. ****. i just peed a little in my pants with anticipation.

i'll get him over here to post it, or i will :) (unless he disapproves...)

Beachwood Mac 04-11-2008 09:18 PM

Bill's version of The Tower (Goodbye Baby) is one of the most played songs on my Ipod. I always had a difficult time pretending to be Stevie while singing to her songs. Now I just pretend I'm Bill. That ones more believable.

I don't like anyone singing Stevie's songs, however, I like Laura Branigan's recording of Cry Wolf.

I haven't heard that many cover versions, but am I allowed say Rod Stewart's version of Stand Back?
Or will that lead to lynching?

This is excellent. I guess I missed this the first time around ... ?

Bill's band is good, too, but they seem not to have much enthusiasm for the Stevie Nicks material because they play it sort of carelessly, probably not doing their homework on the song's structure.

Wow, you guys choke me up - thanks a lot. really.

And I would be thrilled to sing with Eliza.
I have recently lost contact with her but will seek her out again to see what's up.

and alas, i believe the bar with the big fish is in it's last throes.

You didn't miss this the first time David because I never posted it before. Just gave it to Michelle. :wavey:
In their defense (the band) this recording is the one and only time that we played this song in front of folks. We only got to practice it twice and both times were great. Then when we did it live, well, there was some descrepancy as to when to change between the two musical parts of the song.
I can remember singing it and being pissed that they got lost and I think I can hear the anger in my voice actually - lol

Well, I tucked this away in my pile of **** no one would ever hear until one day I sent a copy to ole Mishy Poo (Michelle) and she just loved the performance and didn't seem to mind the band's wandering around. i listenened to it again at that point and I gained a different appreciation for it.

Since then, Michelle has been my greatest musical advocate and I am working on a plan to make her my personal publicist. And I am lucky enough to get to perform for her Live and In Person in a couple short weeks.

Thanks again you guys.

If anyone is interested, I have some stevie/mac stuff on youtube (Angel, Dreams, Leather and Lace, Why, without you, Insider, gold and braid and goodbye baby) here:

http://youtube.com/results?search_qu...b&search_type=

there is some other non-mac stuff tunes up there as well mixed in with videos of our animals.

If anyone lives in Portland, we have a couple mac/stevie tributes set up for end of may and mid june. Hit me up for details.

That must be Rod Stewart's version of the song. It's on his album 'The Leas Singer'...

/me has to confess that it's in his collection

The voice matches I think, but I couldn't hear that well because there was quite some noise at the time. The music was much closer to the original though, not as remix-y as this version.

It surprised me because it got played alongside the likes of Keane, Amy Whinehouse, Racoon and whoever else is hot right now. That's what made me wonder if it was a recent cover that I wasn't aware of.

StvNixRox 04-13-2008 03:49 PM

I just saw an acoustic version of Nightbird and Dreams on Youtube by Lily Wilson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-8DTP9-kXY:thumbsup:
I thought it was an EXCELLENT cover of a Stevie song. Not as good as the original of course but very good. She makes it her own.

I agree. That is quite nice.

I have also really enjoyed these "Bill" renditions, but no one can replace Stevie or FM on any of them for me.

:D Guess I gotta go find Bill...

I have the Rumours tribute CD and Elton John's Don't Stop is kind of cool.

I ran across this one by a vocal groupe called Gregorian, Masters of Chant. They did a version of Dreams I realy like. This groupe takes pop songs and sets them to the Gregorian Chant scale of music. Its real interesting stuff.

How odd. Does that mean the song is sung monophonically -- that is, as a single melody (no harmony) with all voices in unison? or is the chord progression turned modal? In the case of DREAMS, it's really already modal. It's the old church mode of mixolydian (although Stevie didn't intend to do that) -- it's an F major scale with the 4th raised by a half step (which you hear when the song moves to a G chord). Well, whatever. I'll listen to it on iTunes.

Edit: I didn't find DREAMS, but I found some audio on this site:
http://www.gregorianmastersofchant.com/Media.htm

Hmmm . . . .

ragandbone 06-25-2008 02:47 AM

well I did find the monks singing "Dreams" on Youtube (no video) with a little disco beat

I like the moment when they all sing "it's only me-ee"

they might have changed it to "it's only we-ee who want to wrap around..."

Went to you tube to check out Dreams by bill

EXCELLENT
I was very surprized-Got lost listening to a lot of your other stuff,
Now I am glad I know who "Bill" is.....
Looking forward to getting the chance to check out his "Sisiters of the Moon" too
Thanks for the tip.

And I was going to say" Lindsey"

I've heard that said about The Beat Goes On.

Speaking of which, Stevie has my permission to do Needles and Pin solo, if she would like.

Dixie Chicks' Landslide. If it made Stevie $7,000,000, then it works for me! :]

galestreet 06-26-2008 08:16 AM

a cover I would like to hear

it hasn't been coveredbut I would like to hear Coldplay sing Fireflies

bellagypsy79 06-27-2008 10:05 AM

I do agree with Stevie when she says that "I would like to hear someone cover another song of mine besides 'Landslide'. I do have other songs you know..." 'Landslide' is boring me for some reason. Don't get me wrong, I love the song dearly, but I am just so burned out on it. Everywhere I go I hear it, over and over again. If I were to cover a Stevie song.....there are so many how do I choose!???????? The one I would have the most fun with on stage would be "Sisters of the Moon," and "Violet and Blue". I think those would be the ones I would do.

Who is she to talk when she doesn't even know she's got other songs that need to be sung?
SOTM has already been covered by Walter Egan and he probably should have left that one alone.

Does she know she has other songs though? That's the question. She could cover some of her other songs, if push came to shove.

Hmmm. But that does make me wonder what songs other than Dreams, Landslide or Rhiannon I'd like to hear someone else do. Rooms on Fire would be a good one for me.

I don't watch American Idol, but I know the exposure it brings to artists. It'd be great if all the contestants had to do FM or Stevie.

michelle2677 06-30-2008 09:53 PM

heeey.

i was just gonna let everyone know bill did a stevie tribute concert at the end of may. here are a few snippets from the concert that i thought some people would enjoy. he called me right before it started, so that's who he is talking to on the phone  I went to visit him a few months ago and gave him some chapstick (as a good luck charm lol) and you hear him say "i'm chapsticked up and ready" :blob2:

here's the snippet and he also has some other songs on youtube from the same night :)
