Tyra Banks. Disturbing, disgusting- you name it.

how gracious. tyra banks has been wearing dead animals for years, now she organizes a photoshoot in a slaughterhouse with models wearing meat bikinis. now, im a vegetarian, but i can see why many people eat meat- they just get the product which is so unresembling of the creature that it was made from, so they just dont fully realize what's on their plate. but here comes mrs. banks, bringing "glamour" to lines of animal corpses... Hideous. the way she consciously, intendedly embraces death is disturbing to me...not only as an animal lover, but as ahuman being in general. i wouldnt be surprised if a photoshoot in a morgue came next.

PETA is going to have a field day!!

I'm veggie too and I'm honestly not preachy about it but...this is just beyond sick. :distress:

i think they should just leave it alone. this session itself speaks enough. i couldnt think of a better way to show how repulsive using dead animals for fashion is. besides, the only thing you can do to mock an attention whore is refuse to pay attention.

SuzeQuze 03-14-2008 01:46 PM

Never liked her and this is just one more reason.

jannieC 03-14-2008 03:19 PM

I don't understand the purpose of this photo shoot. What the hell? Sometimes I feel like everyone is crazy.

petep9000 03-14-2008 03:23 PM

She's a publicity hound. And to think, I felt bad for her when Perez Hilton reported she pooped herself at a NYC 'Fashion Week' event.

I didn't hear about that.

Betsy 03-14-2008 03:26 PM

Ah, hell Tyra, why not just have a photo shoot in a morgue or some undertaker's parlor...just crawl right into the coffin...and make yourself at home.

She's one classy broad!

(And the third photo looked like Paris Hilton...was it? Maybe it was Paris's idea?)

To me - the shoot is that whole artsy avante guarde thing - the women in traditionally mens' jobs and showing some jiggle. I get it and think the concept is trite. I do not think it has anything to do with fur or killing animals other than it is in a meatpacking plant. The concept could just as easily been executed in say, and auto plant. Note - these jobs are not just held my men anymore (thank goodness) - but the heavy labor aspect of them makes them considered manly.

JazmenFlowers 03-14-2008 03:49 PM

I find it greatly disturbing and disgusting. I think it's perverse.

would we hang up human corpses?

however, I find the hypocrisy interesting, even in myself, that we are outraged because we are seeing what we do to animals that we all essentially end up eating. unless you don't eat, wear or use animal products/byproducts you really have no reason to be upset. do we? isn't it just upsetting because we are slapped in the face with what we (in general) do to animals that end up on our plates? is it the out of sight, out of mind theory and this forces us to see it?

I ask simply to see how others theorize it.

ETA: I guess it could be how the animals are treated as "props" that makes it perverse. that alters my original thoughts.

I think that sums it up perfectly. We are outraged, not only by the act itself, but by the very fact that we cannot reconcile our anger with our own private exploitation of animals in our daily lives (well, except me, since I don't eat or wear animals  ). In a word: dissonance.

I'm a vegetarian but accept that others eat meat and that it's natural for humans to do so. Nature is so cruel but we have the ability to make it more humane, and if we did I might consider eating meat myself. But I think what you said is really appropriate. The method of killing is generally not humane and then this? This glamorizing of these inhumanely slaughtered animals as props to their fashion agenda is sickening.

My dad used to sling meat, not at all glamorous!

Right. And you know, if they were trying to do something with the models that showcased the horrific nature of slaughterhouses, I could dig it. This is just stupid and disgusting to me.

As an aside [warning: vegetarian rant ahead ;) ], I don't eat meat, but I don't judge those who do. I'm not the kind of person to tell anyone what to eat. If someone wants to eat meat, that's their choice. For us, it's just not something we're interested in. When my husband quit eating meat last November, his dangerously high cholesterol levels went down. So much so that he requires no medication for it now. We are both relatively thin and healthy, and morally we feel good about our choices. We are both big animal lovers and FOR US, it is too difficult to separate the animal from the meat on our plates. And yes, we are slightly hypocritical in that we eat dairy products, but we are doing the best we can. (copy/paste from a recent LJ entry)

The job itself is not. The juxtaposition of mostly naked hot models working with raw beef impersonating a traditionally male job is - at least that is what the market research says the masses like.

It's so funny because about 30 minutes after looking at this thread, I went to dinner and had a HUGE steak  Fortunately for me because had I stayed at home and eaten veggies, I likely would have been caught up in the big tornado, which touched down blocks from here

David, you're BRILLIANT! That discovery also allows us to introduce human meat into our daily meal. What's for dinner?

Holy crap! Glad you're okay.

I'm more disgusted by the waste of food. There are starving people in...in...well, everywhere.

Which can be countered with:

"Heart attacks: God's revenge for eating his animal friends."
