One in the same, if you go by character profiles alone.

Add spiders to my list.

Turbulence when flying

Getting fired and not being able to pay my rent

My mom dying (but, I know that's got to happen eventually)

Drowning or being burnt alive

Introducing myself to strange people

Winding up being a demented, ill, and homeless kook in my old age and having no one to look after me

Being buried alive in a coffin

Getting a cramping, urgent, intestinal virus while I'm at work or on the subway

Only a New Yorker could fully appreciate this.

My fears:

Heights (to the point of being uneasy on a step-ladder)
Ghosts
Sharks

 Good one, but I would add -- having it happen anywhere except at home!

Taxes
Homelessness, or total and complete poverty
Death of parents
Unbearable, torturous, unrelenting, uncontrollable physical pain

Other than that, nothing scares me. ;)

Well, that too. In fact, there is no intestinal 'stuff' that I allow to happen anywhere from home. I know, I'm nuts. I have to be in a really, really bad way to use a public bathroom for a #2 (or, in this case, a #3). That's a big fear of mine.

HA! Yes, absolutely. I will stop at nothing to avoid "public restrooms". I should have added that to my fears. They harbor those "microbes" that David mentioned. :D

michelle2677 03-05-2008 09:00 PM

snakes
heights
being buried alive, or really anything that includes me dying due to lack of oxygen (drowning etc)
which brings me to my next one: water lol
dying in general
my dog getting hit by a car
other people's skanky germs

DavidMn 03-06-2008 12:09 AM

Roller Coasters(Or any other wild amusement park ride)
Heights
Sharks
Any stinging insect(Hey, I saw The Swarm at the drive in theater back in 1978!)
being alone

Miss Vicky 03-06-2008 01:02 AM

-heights/flying (but only at take off and landing)

darklinensuit 03-06-2008 03:41 AM

- sharks

- I don't know if anybody has read The Painted Bird, but the brief description of the torture with the glass on the stomach is something I wish I had never read, & I won't subject anyone here to the full description.

- not having money to treat some big illness (I don't mean to sound political)

- having to walk (or dance) in front of a large group of people - as in, I can talk in front of a group, but the walk up before the talk scares me. I thought I was the only one until I read that Clark Gable had this same fear. (And I know, I know - You, sir, are no Clark Gable.)

- Jake

oooh, add the dark to mine. or more, living alone. it's not the lack of company, it's the fear of someone breaking in my apt and raping/killing me. i still sleep with my bedroom door locked :o

SuzeQuze 03-06-2008 10:50 AM

home intrusion
public speaking
something happening to mufasa
my brother, mom, or dad being hurt or worse
religious fundies
sharks
credit card debt

i used to be afraid of heights but skiing got me over that. and flying got me over my fear of flying.

I definitely had that fear when I lived alone. I don't have it now that I'm married, but if I really stop and think about it, I can't imagine anything worse than someone breaking into my home and attacking me. Talk about PTSD afterward; it must be devastating to have your one supposedly safe place shattered. :distress:

exactly. omg that just gave me chills. when I didn't live alone, i felt safe. didn't matter who it was that was with me, but anytime i was left alone, even for one night, i'd freak. i think it also has to do with being alone when it happens. at least with someone else, you can kinda depend on each other to get through it, but if you're on your own it's much scarier. not that I would want someone else to be hurt as well, but all of this is hypothetical.

OMG. You have the same fear as me!!! Nobody I talk to *ever* states this as a fear, lol. Now, the thing is, I don't know where you live but here we don't *get* tornados really, hehe...which makes my fear of them a little strange. I've just always been petrified of them...my hometown gets a ton of tornado warnings and funnel clouds every summer, and my Lord, when I lived there, it was just not pretty when one of those would come around. Now though, I just endure a lot of Toto/Dorothy/Oz jokes. :)

My only other fear is flying. I hate it I hate it I hate it. I did plenty enough of it during the Lindsey tour, lol, and I'd do it again given the opportunity (hey Liddy, give me the opportunity), but it takes a LOT for me to get on a plane, and I'm totally white-knuckle while doing so.

Glittermoondust 03-10-2008 09:43 AM

-heights
-dying
-being alone
-talking in front of people
-fire
-deep water
-driving long distances but I am working on that one and have improved quite a bit (damn panic attacks!!)

That's about it I think......

I'll keep my fears limited to actual things instead of situations, etc.

wrinkles
sharks (!!!)
water
tomatoes
bridges
snakes (!!!)
choking (I guess this could be considered a situation)

these are my top fears...I'm sure there are many others.

strandinthewind 03-11-2008 04:36 PM

That I will EVER be seen in public as disheveled as The First Lady of NY

That was intentional - and, I can assure you I was fierce when I walked though the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria in that and out of the limo and into the venue. Moreover, I paid a FORTUNE to have that make up done professionally. Of course, there is only so much she could do with this mug o mine

Seriously, of course I have looked like shiitte in public.

Mad4stevie 03-14-2008 01:36 PM

Heights (I saw someone jump off a high structure and kill themselves)
Flying (I am dealing with it now as my boyfriend is Delta pilot)
Loss of loved ones
Being paralyzed
Burning or drowning to death
Infertility (no reason to worry, but that clock is ticking . . .)

Fears I have overcome:

Public speaking (had to as a litigator and now a professor)
Being alone
Not being "perfect" enough to gain another's love, approval or attention

Sarah 03-14-2008 01:46 PM

My fears are pretty limited, but the ones I do hold are kind of irrational and I just can't get past them.

- Cracking my back. I'm terrified of it. I never have. Never have let anyone else. I just know that the one time it pops, I'll end up completely paralyzed, rolling around in a wheelchair that I control with my mouth or something completely ridiculous.

- Being sprayed in the face. Even when I get in the shower in the morning, I have to cover up my face with my hands and let the water run over my hands, gradually to my face, then I can kind of deal with it, but only briefly. It's not about water really because I'm perfectly fine having my face underwater like in a pool.. it's just the actual spray. If someone squirted me in the face with a spray bottle or water gun, I'd flip the **** out. I don't know why.
