Normally I abhor it, but Daniel Day lewis was so good in There Will be Blood I was hoping he'd win. I wanted Ellen Paige to grab the win for Juno...but figured she wouldnt. Jon Stewart was refreshing...but no Billy Crystal! =)

I hear you.. that was the only reason I watched it also, was for Daniel Day Lewis.. He was great in that movie! It was cool that the writer for Juno won too, I thought..

I saw highlights this morning. Helen Mirren looked as stunning as always and I swooned slightly at George Clooney. And what was the deal with Gary Busey (s/p?) He was behaving weird when Seacrest was interviewing Laura Linney and Jennifer Garner on the red carpet

I was actually flipping back and forth between Deuce Bigalow and the Oscars. Sad.

Helen Mirren looked gorgeous! It's so hard to believe that she's in her late 60's. I loved all the women in the red dresses! And that was just weird about Gary Busey.. I was in the other room, and missed what happened, as I came back in, and Jennifer Garner was saying something about being kissed on the neck by him??

Oh funny... I was sorta in and out of the room - putting away clothes from doing the laundry and stuff, so I missed some of it too.. lol

I actually watched them from beginning to end which is rare for me. The best moment for me was the winners for Best Original Song. I don't know their names but what a great moment for them to win on such a low budget ($100,000) film. They probably never expected any award let alone an Oscar and their gratitude and pure joy in winning made my evening. Kudos to the Oscar folks for allowing the girl to come back and give her speech after they cut the mic on her before she had a chance for her thanks. I don't think I had ever heard applause for that category the way the audience applauded their win last night. It was a great moment for them.

I must have missed this one.. I did see some of the musical numbers though..It's nice to know that other people have a chance to win besides the "big money" people! Good for them!

Purposely avoided watching the spectacle.
Although my friends kept texting me the winners, just to annoy. Bless.

Anyway, so glad Marion Cotillard won for La Môme (La Vien Rose) as she richly deserved it.

Lots of great foreign films for sure that I need to catch up on!

I saw some of it, and this was my favorite part. When they got up to accept the award, the guy said his piece and then the women walked to the mic but before she could start the damn orchestra starting playing. Bastards! It was so rude. So, John Steward came on after the break and invited her back out to say her thanks. It was very sweet and I love that they won the award, they def. seemed like the type that deserve it- they were SO overwhelmed!

EDIT: oh, I just saw that you already descibed it. Well, it was a great moment ;)

I was pleased that for once the top awards went to films and people that I thought should get them. I very rarely guess the winners. I didn’t much care for ‘There will be Blood’ as a film, but in every scene he was in, Daniel Day-Lewis completely dominated. His performance was stunning and shows that you don’t have to be in a great film to give an Oscar winning performance. His performance wasn’t as good as the role he played in ‘Gangs of New York’ for me. In that one he gave the DiCaprio guy a complete acting lesson and played the role of Bill ‘the butcher’ in a really fearsome and intelligent way. Any other year he would have got an Oscar for that performance too but he came up against probably my favourite film of the last 20 years - The Pianist.

The other awards - best film, best director(s) and female lead were all very well deserved I thought.

Helen, with regrets, starred with Malcolm McDowell in the pornographic "Caligula"...1978. She was hot back then.
