Thanks for this!

I LOVE this version of "Eyes of the World", fun to hear those little bits of "Enchanted" in there too. Never too many versions of this song to be had, that's for sure!

I thought I had at least heard of most of the songs that were kicked around at this point, but I don't recall ever hearing of them doing "I've Been Loving You Too Long". Is there any backstory as to why this song? Were they actually considering it for the album, even though it's a cover? It's HOT, regardless of anything! And live it would have killed!

JbbyStew86 02-05-2008 01:34 AM

I definately agree. Eyes of the World goes overlooked too often. It's one of my favorites, so Im glad to get every version I can get my hands on, thanks!!

carrie721 02-05-2008 02:25 AM

thanks for this, terry, i was missing a couple of these tracks. and thanks to betsy for requesting them! :D

jbrownsjr 02-05-2008 04:24 AM

wildheart048 02-05-2008 05:25 AM

They're playing it live. It's not studio tracking. So maybe they were practicing during a tour rehearsal, not necessarily to put into a set but just out of boredom or to loosen up.

Betsy 02-05-2008 02:02 PM

Beachwood Mac...

You're the greatest!

No wonder that dog with the tennis ball in his mouth, likes you so much!

(Work today isn't gonna suck...Woo Hoo...bring on the cat fights and backstabbing...!)

It is HOT!! HELL-O!

(I would guess they were just messing around in rehearsal...) ;)

Betsy 02-05-2008 05:56 PM

Eyes of the World....

Freakin' Awesome!

Never heard this version before....LOVE THE KEYBOARDS!! Go Christine!

Sahara 02-05-2008 06:01 PM

Mirage outtakes are so much better than the finished article.... :distress:

Thanks for posting! I have another two disks of outtakes, probably a few repeated tracks, I'll upload them if anyone's interested?

Beachwood Mac 02-06-2008 01:44 AM

Glad you all are enjoying the outtakes. I'll post the two Mirage rehearsal discs I have tomorrow. I worked the polls in California today so the only thing I want right now is my bed. I can't think straight right now.

Oh, and as of today 257,623 people have viewed this thread!

Seriously, the Mirage album is a real low point for me, I just can't make myself like it, and the fact that things like If You Were My Love were left out wrecks my head! Though it does have some high points -- and they're really high. Hold Me and Gypsy spring to mind!

By CM do you mean Christine McVie? Sorry, I've had exams all week so my head is full of mush!

Outtakes on the way :)

You still need 257,395 people to read this thread before you can claim that number buddy.:)

deribish 02-06-2008 03:36 PM

do-wop!

has anyone else ever thought that Lindsey and the group originally planned for Mirage to be a 50s-inspired blues/do-wop-ish kinda album? Nearly all the songs, in their early stages have a rough early-school rock/blues sound, that is just amazing... Somehow, most of these tracks ended up sounding more 1982 than 1952, but a few tracks remained (oh Diane, wish you were here...) Anyway, I LOVE these old demos and outtakes. Kinda wish the final product had retained some of this wildness.

You're welcome Betsy! I may never recover from working the polls. A group of us have taken a day off work and worked the polls the last few years as a fundraiser for a local charity. Turnout was very high and it was good to see so many young first time voters. My favorite, though, was the lady in her eighties who struggled with her walker to have her chance to vote. In her distinct European accent she said she was so proud to be able to vote and wouldn't ever miss out on the opportunity.

You have good taste. Welcome to The Ledge.
IMO the Gypsy demos are horrid. Other fans enjoy them so you might also. I can't post them but some kind soul will eventually.

PenguinHead 03-01-2012 02:56 AM

I probably have all of these outtakes/rehearsals, but I was still disappointed to see that all those old download links are dead.

I love Mirage for what it is.Though it took me a long time to fully appreciate some of Lindsey's contributions, the album is a very enjoyable listen.

It really needs to be given a rehab and re-release. It could include bonus material such as Goodbye Angel, Blue Monday, If You Were My Love etc...

And it's needed rehab for 30 years(OMFG, somebody kill me:mad:).

Obviously, the remasters of Rumours, White, and Tusk, didn't provide the numbers necessary, to remaster Mirage.
Unless somebody like Rhino does it, I seriously doubt it will ever happen.

mylittledemon 03-01-2012 04:18 AM

If you guys want my "redux" of Mirage, I cleaned up the tracks as best I could. Send me a PM.

No! That is the oft-sited reason for not remastering Mirage. But that is a bunch of bullsh*t. And it drives me crazy that people justify it. No one expects a 30 year old album to sell an unreasonable amount of units. Your are right - the long shot is that Rhino (a great label) or some company like that obtains the rights. It's really sad that some outside entity would care more and take better care of their musical history than they themselves and their own record company would! It pisses me off. Fleetwood Mac is not chopped liver! Fans deserve and should expect better. They remain a hugely popular band, with a very long, outstanding legacy. There are bands of their ilk who have had every album in their catalog remastered, often with dozens of bonus tracks.

Just as a random example, The Byrds are one of those bands. Every single album they recorded (many many more than Fleetwood Mac) were re-released. Sales figures were not the main objective. The objective was to honor a seminal, historic band by making their catalog of music available in the best manner possible.

Then again, there are many lesser known bands and artists, with significantly smaller fan bases, whose albums are deemed worthy of re-release, even if their market base is severely limited.

But Fleetwood Mac is not that kind of band!!! They have a f*cking world-wide fan base. And even if a fraction of that fan base purchases a 30-year old re-release of a previously recorded album, there is going to be an acceptable profit margin. Certainly remastering, manufacturing, distribution and marketing factor in. But that's nothing compared to the costs inccurred in recording the original work.

There is absolutely no practical reason or justification for Mirage not being re-released. I think, for a band of their stature, Fleetwood Mac's catalog has been poorly mismanaged. The blame falls mainly on their management and their record company, but the band member are also somewhat culpable. They remain insultingly ambivalent.

FM has never been good at making BUSINESS decisions, nor honoring the wishes of their fanbase.

With the exception of milking Tumours, on every tour. Oh wait....

The record companies only care about the pop kids. Any kind of music worth listening to gets the short end of the stick.

Greast post & I couldn't agree more. Same with Stevie's solo stuff & heck even Lindsey needs a 'box' set for his solo stuff too. Its sad cause so much 'could' be put out there but for some strange reason 'they' don't want to. Not just outtakes/live stuff/demos /extended versions etc. Rare photos /posters etc. They could have a market for it but they don't want to release it? I'll never understand them. As fans it seems we get the short end of the stick most of the times really-- IMO anyway. Sad but so true.
