Did Christine ever write about Stevie?
I know that all the members wrote constantly about eachother, and Stevie wrote a few songs about Christine, but everyone focuses on Buckingham Nicks and what songs they wrote to eachother, but did Christine ever write any songs about Stevie and their friendship?

She has sometimes said that Songbird was for all of them, but she never said any song was specifically about Stevie, as far as I know.

I don't really think any of Christines songs were about Stevie though. I couldn't make the connection at least. |
A friend and I once discussed the possibility that the lyrics of Say You Will could apply to Christine and how she wouldn't get involved with a new album. "If I can't get you to Dance...." etc.
But as for Christine writing about Stevie, there's nothing I can think of. |

But I guess it's just wishful thinking. If Stevie was consciously thinking of Chris I think she would have mentioned it, like when she talked about Arturo Sandoval, I think she would have thrown Chris in there too. Michele |
Though probably not specifically about Stevie, I always thought it was pretty clear that "All Over Again" was about Christine's feelings toward the band as a whole and the experiences that came along with being a part of it for all those years. She does address a "you" in the song, but I think it's just as much all of the band members as any specific one.

The lyric is "if I can get you to dance". I've also thought about Christine on that but as Stevie does, it also about the lurve relationship. I thought it was interesting that in the SYW shows, she and LB did a little dance.... :) I think Songbird may have references to all of them for sure. I always think of SnL when I hear "and the songbirds are singing like they know the score". It makes me think of Christine referring to she and John's breakup and how SnL can relate because of their own issues. But, that's just a guess. |

I like to believe that an unknown Stevie haunted the dreams of Christine McVie, who wrote "Remember Me" in the hopes of this enchanted mystery woman visiting her again in a more reality-based world. To me, just about all of Christine's songs sound like they're about current or former love interests. Why did Stevie write "Think About It"? Is it just about the McVie marriage disintegration or did Chris want to leave the band?

And Chris said that Little Lies might have been a message to Lindsey, because she sensed he was about to leave the band. Michele

I believe that I read somewhere that "Friend" on Christine's lastest album was about Stevie. It does fit the situation.

Stevie's song "Touched By An Angel" is most certainly about Christine. Christine is the "someone standing at the side of the stage, not standing in the shadows I see her face. Glowing in the darkness in her in her own angel ways". That's really one of my very favorite Stevie songs... and one of the neatest songs that any of the band members have written about the band itself.
On the other hand, I just can't point to any one single song of Christine's and say it's about Fleetwood Mac or Stevie. I've never heard of "Friend" being about Stevie. It's an intriguing thought... especially with all the moon, planets, and mysticism references. I guess I always figured that song was about a failed relationship. |
Stevie does like to write about her friends, loves, or experiences. Christine has written about Mick (Oh Daddy), John (Don't Stop), a lover (YMLF), Wilson (Hold me).. but it's not a rule, she is more like a storyteller, or so I read. Songbird is for anybody and nobody, and I guess most of her songs are.
I wish there would be a song about Stevie. It would be interesting to read what she wrote (depends on the year, of course, ha haaa) |
Only Over You was supposedly about Dennis Wilson and You Make Lovin Fun was about Curry Grant. Oh Daddy was supposedly about Mick but I can't see how and Don't Stop was for John.
Someone did say Friend was about Stevie but again I can't see how. I always thought it was about missing friends in L.A. after she moved to England I don't think she's ever written a song about or for Stevie. Gail |

Here's something I found: "Don't Stop" reflects Christine's feelings after her separation from John McVie. "Don't Stop was just a feeling. It just seemed to be a pleasant revelation to have that 'yesterday's gone,'" Christine remembers in The Fleetwood Mac Story: Rumours and Lies, "It might have, I guess, been directed more toward John, but I'm just definitely not a pessimist." |
Sans "Don't Stop," I tend to believe what Carole Ann Harris says in her book "Storms"... that all of Christine's songs from "Rumours" were about her lover at the time (and Fleetwood Mac lighting director) Curry Grant. I have never believed "Oh Daddy" was about Mick, and have never believed "Songbird" was for 'everyone.' Oh Daddy is clearly about a lover, and Songbird is obviously about one person in particular. Though I don't take every word Carol Ann says for gospel, I think she nailed it in regards to Christine's Rumours songs. Plus she should know... she was there. She knew the members of Fleetwood Mac personally for 8 years at the height of their fame.

I think the only people who have said that "Friend" was about Stevie are those Stevie fans on internet message boards. Chris said that most of her ITM songs were about her failed relationship with an unknown lover in England. I have a feeling you're right about it being about friends back in L.A. after she moved back home. By the way, "Ask Anybody" was about Dennis Wilson. |

When I went to her site to play a clip and it opened in WMP, a cover for a Greatest Hits with a release date of 1997 popped up - is "Friend" that old? |

I think Curry was fun for Christine. And by that I mean light fun, a distraction, a diversion from deeper love relationships that were painful. I may be placing my opinion too much on the Tusk video footage where she kind of mused to herself about whether or not she was in love, but I just don't get the feeling that she was invested enough in Curry to write things about not being able to walk away from him even if she tried. He gave her respite from heartbreak. I think her feelings for him were much more casual than that and that it was relatively easy for her to walk away from him. So, I never thought Songbird or Oh Daddy were about him and I accept that Don't Stop is about John. He talks about it being about him and I don't think Chris was just humoring him there. Michele |
Christine confirmed at the "Making the Rumours album" video in 1997, that Oh Daddy was about Mick, Don't Stop about John and her divorce, ang Songbird for "nobody and anybody.." or so I recall
I remember Mick said in his book that Hold me was about Dennis Wilson, he didn't mention Only over you |

I can see how Ask anybody would be about Dennis Wilson. "Somehow, someday he'll change and we'll try it all over again" - have I got the right song? Gail |

Well, maybe just different parts of it are about him, like the word "Daddy" and well . . . that's it. I don't think the why are you so right and I'm so wrong sounds like Mick, but he probably thinks it does:laugh:. Guess he thinks that fits him to a tee. Michele |

(shivers) It's kind of like the way that I think "Silver Girl" is about Sheryl Crow, but only by way of the nominal "I" of Sheryl's lover, who is himself being observed by his sister-in-law once-removed, via marriage (& abrupt divorce) to Aunt Tessy. Sheryl's cousin's best friend's Aunt Tessy, that is. |

Songs that are obviously and completely about Stevie:
-You Make Lovin' Fun (It's all she wants to do!) -Hold Me (Stick your hand inside of my glove obviously referencing lesbian foreplay.) -Got a Hold On Me ("I've got a feelin' it'll work out right." Reference to Stevie's obsession with health and fitness.) -Skies the Limit (Clearly an ode to Rhiannon, "and when the sky is starless.") -Love In Store (Margi Kent's store that is, where their first "encounter" took place.) -Only Over You ("People think I'm crazy, but they don't know [THAT I'M A LESBIAN.]") -Wish You Were Here (Holds so much meaning to Christine regarding Stevie that she stole the intro to Silver Springs for it.) -Songbird ("Singing like they know the score" obviously a reference to Stevie's orgasm noises, also said to sound like a white winged dove singing ooooo, baby, oooo, said oooo.) -Oh Daddy (Christine's secret nickname for Stevie in the sack.) -Everywhere (Self explanatory, Christine wants to be with Stevie everywhere, except for tours and in America.) -Little Lies (Keeping your sexuality is kind of a big lie, but apparently Christine doesn't think so.) -Say You Love Me (Rewritten because SCREAM MY NAME STEVIE wouldn't go over so well with commercial audiences.) -Over My Head (Completely reference to where Stevie's ankle's go.) |
