Soundstage News

Stevie Nicks is in Nashville recording an album with Joe Thomas for a CD that accompanies a DVD of Soundstage, which airs on PBS. Joe directs the show.

From Stevie-Nicks.info. An accompanying CD would be awesome!! I guess the information was in a Nashville newspaper.:]

danax6 01-22-2008 03:27 PM

So that's what's taking so long.

Another cd with the same old boring live tracks. Yay.

Ah...I love how doing overdubs is called "recording an album".

JohnL 01-22-2008 03:46 PM

Dang...

lots of negativity. I suspect it will be something like FM did with Live in Boston. We will get some live tracks that may/may not be on the DVD. I would like to have the tracks that dont make it to the DVD or maybe at least one new song?

WOOOHOO!!!! :blob2: THats some cool news! I want it to sound crisp and clear,w overdubs. Like The Dance, or Live in Boston. Im soooooo tired of freekin bootlegs, and even then, i dont have all that many of those. but there not the same as a nice profesional recording. I want this soundstage to be as good as possible!
-Please dont be put off by the negativity. some people are NEGATIVE 95% of the time.
AND As far as live tracks I WILL LOVE having a version of "if annyone falls","How still my love", "Crash", "Circle Dance", ect. Those are HARDLY the "same old live tracks". It wll be wonderful having them.
YES.:blob2::blob2::blob2:
THX 4 SHARING THE NEWS!!

Somajoseph 01-22-2008 03:58 PM

Thank you for the info. I am looking forward to a Soundstage release and any thing new would be great.
As for the negativity..you can certainly count on that from certain people around here. It's sadly now a given.

The post says she is "in Nashville recording an album with Joe Thomas for a CD that accompanies a DVD of Soundstage." It does not say or imply that the CD is a rip of songs from the Soundstage. I took it to mean she is recording new songs. Is there something I missed?

I'm excited about the DVD. But do we really need another CD?

Thats what I got from it too, but since Joe Thomas is the director for the show, I think its just a CD to accompany the DVD.

mikeschmike 01-22-2008 04:19 PM

A new CD would be great, but I have a sinking feeling that we're going to get a ten track "sampling" of songs that have been around for several tours.

My prediction, if I may:

1. Stand Back
2. OTR/Dreams
3. Rhiannon
4. Landslide
5. GDW
6. Circle Dance
7. FFG
8. Edge
9. R&R
10. BATB

danax6 01-22-2008 04:23 PM

^If Circle Dance, FFG and BatB are on there, my excitement level will rise.

She didn't do OTR at this show. I hope IAF makes the CD. I love the live version.

Grammy Awards could be victim of writers strike

Grammy Awards could be victim of writers strike

By BEVERLY KEEL • January 17, 2008

The Writers Guild of America's strike that essentially shut down the Golden Globe Awards now threatens to disrupt the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 10, so the Recording Academy and two unions are working to save music's biggest awards show.

On Tuesday, the American Federation of Musicians and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists issued a joint statement in support of the Grammys. It said they are encouraged by news that the WGA has signed an interim agreement allowing The 39th NAACP Image Awards to be telecast as scheduled. The Grammys' producers and AFM reps have requested the writers guild sign a similar agreement with the music awards show.

Nashville Association of Musicians President Harold Bradley, who serves on the American Federation of Musicians' international executive board, said the union hopes to reach an agreement similar to the one between the WGA and David Letterman's production company that allows writers to work for the company's shows.

"It's only a once a year show, so it wouldn't hurt the network, if that is what the writers are trying to do," Harold said. "It would hurt the Grammy show, and it would hurt the musicians." MusiCares, the Recording Academy's nonprofit arm that helps musicians in need, also would be harmed, he said. "This would be quite a blow if they couldn't have their show. I hope the writers understand how important it is for the show to go on to support the humanitarian efforts of MusiCares."

The Recording Academy's president and CEO, Neil Portnow, said in a statement, "We are in a different industry than the motion picture and television business; I am quite certain that most are aware of the extremely difficult and challenging conditions facing our industry's creators and companies."

The Associated Press reported that guild spokesman Gregg Mitchell said a waiver "is unlikely to be granted." If no waiver is granted, the question would be if the unions would allow their members to cross picket lines. "We really think that the writers guild will carefully consider what we have said to them and will work it out," Harold said.

Among Nashville acts and work nominated for Grammys this year are Taylor Swift and Paramore, both up for top new artist; Vince Gill's four-disc These Days boxed set for album of the year; and "Before He Cheats," the Carrie Underwood smash written by Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins, for song of the year.

The Nashville Symphony's Alan Valentine plans on attending the Grammys, even if it means crossing the picket line. The symphony is up for two awards. "I'm not a member of the union," he said. "I'll write the show if they want me to."

Hill recovers from knee surgery
Faith Hill is recovering nicely after knee surgery Jan. 7 that was the result of an old injury suffered while playing high school softball and through normal wear and tear over the years.

"Who has time to slow down?" Faith said in a statement. "I intend to be back better and stronger." She is preparing for her MusiCares tribute to Aretha Franklin in Los Angeles on Feb. 8 and recording her 2008 Christmas album.

Keith, Nicole go house hunting
Don't believe those media reports that have Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman living in Europe or Australia. I hear they are shopping for a Nashville home while their home near Leiper's Fork is being renovated. (Real estate guru Rick French, who works with Keith, couldn't be reached for comment.)

"Nashville is very much a part of Keith and Nicole's plans now and in the future," Keith's spokesman, Paul Freundlich, said. "Any reports to the contrary are just not accurate."

Morsels
• The Internet is buzzing with news that Nashville performer Cardin McKinney is a top 50 finalist on this season's American Idol.

• Stevie Nicks is in Nashville recording an album with Joe Thomas for a CD that accompanies a DVD of Soundstage, which airs on PBS. Joe directs the show.• Diana Ross will headline the 46th annual Swan Ball, which will be held June 14 at Cheekwood.

My only thing about that is it is relatively easy to rip the song from the DVD to CD. In other words, if the CD contains the same songs as the DVD, why go through that effort, esp. since the CD likely adds nothing significant to the sales volume IMO.

So, I am hoping, perhaps in vain, for a new sudio release of one or two songs. After all, even GH packages have new stuff  -- though her last one did not, save for the DVD stuff with comments.

THat is true. id be happy either way, but it would be cool for it to have a *bonus* track or two. like add the song for New Orleans, and then donate some sales to the relief.

Nice. I know that you are a fellow Rhiannon obsessor. So coming from you that means something. I just wanna see her sing it with top hat and scarf.

LiamMcConville 01-22-2008 06:03 PM

Hmmm, if they're talking about the Joe Thomas I know of, he's an R&B singer/producer. Could Stevie have found the perfect producer for her "New Orleans song"? Someone who could instill that "flair" she was looking for? Makes one think!

carrie721 01-22-2008 06:05 PM

cuz everyone knows stevie's just an r&b singer at heart. kind of like otis redding. anyone who's seen the "whole lotta trouble" video knows that!

If she would just send the lyrics to that song to me, I'd be happy. I'll decide if she can record it.

Nice try... that's another Joe Thomas. This Joe Thomas is a veteran country music producer based in Nashville, who, I believe, is pretty much only doing Soundstage-related things these days. As such, I don't have high hopes that this CD will be anything but the bastard stepchild of "Live in Boston." But then again the terminology used in the article was "recording an album," which sounds like a lot more than merely producing/overdubbing a live CD. I have this deep dark fantasy that Joe will assemble a bunch of Nashville's finest session musicians so that Stevie can quickly run through some of Carrie Underwood's rejected song pile. I know that sounds horrible, but at least it's something new! Five years without a single new studio recording from Mama is just cruel!

I can't even imagine what type of cd would "accompany" a dvd of Soundstage... Unless it's a cd of the full show. And why Nashville? Could it be that she's recording country tunes? Maybe an ep? Doesn't really make any sense especially when thrown in with the Soundstage dvd. Seems going country is the new flavour... Bon Jovi' latest cd was leaning towards country... Jewel's upcoming cd is supposedly country... Jessica Simpson (not that she counts), her next cd is apparently country too... Sheryl Crow lives in Nashville - but from the sound of her latest songs, it's not really country... So who knows what this is... But hey, anything new from her if it is in fact new material, is great in my books!

I agree, except I can see her cutting some songs from the show. Another possibility would be an interview, but of course that doesn't make sense, given that she is in Nashville for the recording, which would be unnecessary, unless she's sitting in the Grand Ole Opry with an urn of Jesse's ashes on her lap, for sentimental reasons ;).
Of course, this could be an album of extras, like Space Needle & You're Not the One, etc (I like to get people's hopes up). But more likely it's five live recordings of "Dreams", recorded back-to-back.:distress:

Hate to be the downer, but I know many of you understand....I ain't jumping for joy till new songs are released...whether she wrote them 30 years ago and this is the first we hear of them, or they were written in the last few years...if it ain't something new, I'm not excited

Stevie Nicks, the infamous "breadwinner" of the 70's rock band Fleetwood Mac, is 'rumoured' to be in Nashville this month, editing her SoundStage special, and recording an album that will accompany its DVD release. Our correspondent tells us that Nicks is reshooting close-ups, editing in footage of 'white winged dove's' being released into the studio audience, and having the entire concert's vocals brought up two octaves. A dancing scene featuring the now 74 year old Brad Jefferies will also be included in this incredible performance.

The CD portion of this package will feature one new song, written by Sandy Stewart… and sung by Sheryl Crow. The tentative tracklisting includes:

1. Outside the Rain
2. Dreams
3. Rhiannon
4. Gold Dust Woman
5. Edge of Seventeen
6. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
7. Stand Back
8. NEW SONG. Title has not been released.

From what I have read, I think the producer lives and works in Nashville. So, I think that is the reason for the location.
