Mick autographed my 'Rumours' CD cover

and my 'Mystery to Me' cover, both in 1990 or 1991, when he was doing press for his book. He wrote "Best wishes, Mick Fleetwood" or something like that. In permenant black marker. So, is this a 'hot' collectable? Not necesarily looking to part with it now, but was wondering if there was a market for these things.

Inevitable boring anectdote: my college roommate Chris, and I, both took my little Dodge hatchback into NYC's Greenwich Village to meet Mick. My roomate bought the book so I hopped on the autograph line with him, my Rumours and Mystery To Me CD covers tucked into my coat. So when we get up to Mick, he signs Chris's book after showing some flunky the receipt and I handed Mick my CD cover and the same flunky said "hey, Mr. Fleetwood is ONLY signing paid copies of his book". I looked at the seated Fleetwood (who was very tan, almost making me think he used the bottle stuff to get so orangey) and gave him a sad smile and said "how's Biddy? I read all about her in your last book, she seems like quite a character". Well, that won him over! He said "Oh, thank you, she's quite well actually" and then beckoned me to give him the CD covers to sign. Mick is actually the only celebrity I have ever met and spoke to.

A shame, that I'm on everyone's Ignore List. Now I know how Bill Gamelson felt.
Guess I'll just go crawl under a rock.

I'm sorry, I didn't read your post until this morning.

You have guts and an incredible quick wit to think of asking him about his mom. I would stood there and then slunk to the recesses of the building like a cowering dog.

I do think Mick is approachable and therefore still "human". I have never seen him in person, but he acts that way on camera and from other stories of encounters with him, he seems genuinely human.

A guy who works in Colorado Springs, told me he used to work at a hotel in Hawaii, where Mick was a frequent guest...and my friend worked in the spa...as a massieus (sp?)... He said Mick was "a giant" (and difficult to work on). Mick was very gracious to all the staff and would allow his picture to be taken or would sign autographs etc.

What was even more nice, if Mick spotted a staff member off work, he'd invite them to come sit with him or would greet them with a hello and a wave in the parking lot.

I thought your story was interesting.

GarboSpeaks! 01-14-2008 03:46 PM

This is a cool story. I don't know how I never met him until lately. I myself must have been living under a rock during the 90's, cause I missed a lot of that sort of thing. Signings etc. by several of my fav artists. Having met Mick several times last year, I can say that he is a complete doll, and was very happy to see & sign several of my things. I don't think I posted a one of those pics here. I'm not sure that anyone would have been interested, but I'll post them tonight. There are some great shots of me mac'in out on Mick. lol. SO kidding, but it sure looks like it!
As far as his sig is worth. Not so much. Especially since he is still signing so much these days. When he gets all "Garbo" like and stops signing things, the autographs will be worth quite a bit. On a personal level, the things he signed for me & to me are priceless!

^^^

I'd like to see your photos, if you don't mind posting them.

kathy1 01-15-2008 09:25 AM

thanks for sharing the story were you able to get any pictures with him?

petep9000 01-15-2008 09:32 AM

I didn't bring a cam when I met him, and the 'flunkies' there probably would have barked if I did anyway!

Did I mention how tan he was? And not only that, he was taaaaaaaalll. I mean, I'm 5'10" foot, but if we stood side to side I would reckon his kneecaps would come up to my waist.

I think he's 6'6", very tall.

MF @ Costco Pt 1 & 2

I met Mick twice in one day, and these are those pics. Then I met him about a month later @ another Costco. (Pete...am I threadjacking? I hope this doesn't tick you off) He was tall to be sure, but thankfully not orange. haha All I do know is that he was SO nice! As were his peeps that day. It was (3) a great experience.
Looking VERY handsome...all serious.

Mick looking vaguely interested in what Ihave to say about the pictures I've brought:

Our 1st pic. It was kinda fuzzy, that's partly why I went to the next Costco signing:

Much better shot, although I look like a slightly delusional perhaps psychotic fan?!
http://i6.tinypic.com/6pti3up.jpg
So I go to thank him, and give him a kiss on the cheek, and his right hand man was like "oh that's priceless, stay there" and takes this picture:
http://i14.tinypic.com/6x9xqxe.jpg
Then my friend & I take a pic together, BOTH kiss him on the cheek (no pic of that) and he goes to give me a kiss back, and looks instead like he's howling. I gotta love this pic most of all!

Jeez, I did "hosted w/ tiny pic" and didn't know they'd come out THAT big! I post either too tiny or too large. Sorry LEdge.

I don't have my own scanner, but I will take the booklets around the block to the drugstore and they'll scan them. Posting later..

:D The Bigger...the Better :D

I just noticed the supports he has on his hands....arthritis?

GarboSpeaks! 01-16-2008 05:02 PM

A lot of people were asking about those supports. I was to prevent any carpal tunnel (sp??) I mean it was a signing for his wine, and people were buying those large boes that had 4 bottles each, then other stuff. On average he was signing 3+ things PER PERSON...that's a lot of signing, so to protect his hands (wrists really) so that he could continue to drum, he wore those braces.
And Betsy...MF lover? He is very appealing in person to be sure!;)

golden braid 01-16-2008 10:03 PM

Anita, those are really cute pictures of you and Mick. You two seem quite chummy. ;)

MacMan 01-16-2008 10:26 PM

Those are really great shots Anita.. Good for you! So what did he have to say when you were showing him your old pics of him?

petep9000 01-17-2008 06:57 PM

Here they are. Cat's out of the bag now though (my first name isn't really Pete)

Pete -- John ... what's the diff???

Cool photos! Wanna hear how I got my copy of Mick's autograph? Amazon or Ebay...which means it's definitely a fake... I think it's a Zoo album of some kind...but hell....if I don't SAY where I got it, then it's a Real McCoy, right???

shackin'up 01-18-2008 05:21 PM

I can't think of a better way to ruin my FM-CDcovers. Oh yeah, Lindsey's autograph on Rumours and John's on MTM. He kicks serious ass on that one. But still ... congrats on these. VERY .

petep9000 01-18-2008 06:02 PM

I know, right? They're not my most treasured items, kept in a bank vault as a Stevie, Lindsey, Christine or John autographed CD cover would be (in that order). But, they're actually the only celebrity autographs I have. Now my mother, she's the one. She has Howard Cosell's autograph, on a cocktail napkin, from the mid-70's. Groovy!

p.s the 'Rumours' CD cover pictured above with Mick's signature, that was the original CD release from the 80's. I bought it as soon as it came out, only to read later on that no one was happy with the mix and that it was going to be re-released. So, it's sort of significant in it's own weird way.

I do not totally agree, Mick's autograph should be on my copy of Tusk. That's the album on which he shines more than on any other album, aside with Then Play On....
