Fun Story
I translated this from Dutch. It was posted on the Top 2000 website, where people send in their stories pertaining to certain songs. This is what Ron sent in about 'Go Your Own Way'.
--- I remember it like it was yesterday. It was 1989 and I was working in a 5-star deluxe hotel in Düsseldorf. During my time there I had the opportunity to greet a lot of famous people. A lot of bands also stayed at this hotel when they had shows in that particular region. That's how it happened that during my time there, working Roomservice, I got to meet Pink Floyd, and the band this story is about: Fleetwood Mac. Normally I would have been on the phone, taking orders from guests. However, that day the hotel was fully booked, so the chef was taking orders himself, and every other member of the staff was running around delivering them. That day a few orders came in from the tenth floor, which was the floor Fleetwood Mac had booked for a few days. With a trolley full of food and hard liquor I got sent up to one of the rooms. With my heart beating out of my chest, I knocked on the door. From somewhere far away a voice called out to me, telling me to enter. At first I didn't see anything, the room was pitch dark. But when I entered with my trolley, a light was switched on, and voila, there was Stevie Nicks on the bed, with the guitarist. They didn't let me linger around and I was sent out of the room almost immediately, with a 20 DM tip. I have my own theories as to what was going on... Those two didn't come across as the very energetic bandmembers I knew them to be. I wasn't even downstairs before I got called up again, this time to one of their other rooms. Humming one of their songs, 'Go Your Own Way', I knocked on the door. What a difference with the last room! The door was opened quickly by Mick Fleetwood himself. He invited me in and even told me to sit down, but we weren't allowed to do that. I had trouble understanding what he was saying, because the TV was on very loud. There was a western on, one with a lots of noise and lots of shooting. Imagine my surprise when Fleetwood jumped on the bed and started to reenact the scene that had just been shown on TV. Right before my eyes he started shooting, jumping and tumbling through the room, as if he was the leading man himself. After a full minute of watching him, speechless, he pushed a tip into my hands and I left the room. Afterwards I had a good laugh and to this day I'm reminded of Mick Fleetwood when I hear that great song, 'Go Your Own Way'. ------ Obviously, the 1989 date is wrong. It could be that he meant 1988, when Pink Floyd was indeed also touring Europe. That would mean though that a. Stevie was sleeping with either Rick or Billy, or b. Lindsey flew in for no good reason. I'm inclined to believe the former first, but hey, stranger things have happened. Also, not many people even knew who Rick and Billy were, so for him to reach the conclusion that it was the guitarist, and that he wasn't as energetic as he normally was, leads me to believe it was someone more familiar. Maybe it wasn't the guitarist, maybe it was John? It could also be that he mistakenly typed a 9 instead of a zero, which would make it 1980 and Pink Floyd was touring Europe then as well. Somehow I find the 'Stevie Nicks in a pitch dark room in bed with the guitarist' story easier to take when placed in that timeframe. ;) Mick Fleetwood as Dirty Harry? I can picture that very easily. |
Haha, great story! You're right, it would make a whole lot more sense if he actually means 1980, instead of 1989.

Please don't tell me she slept with either billy or rick
|
ZOMG it's like in Cinderella when she goes to the stepmother's bedroom and the room is all dark and hushed, and Lady Tremaine is cast in shadow and she can see you but you can't see her and sdlkgcnvldc,mf,c,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, this person never says they were under the covers together. Just that they were on the bed. |

Interesting ....
He is tipped 20 Marks (approximately $10 ?) in 1989 by Stevie's room and doesn't mention how much he was tipped by Mick... |
It's all believable....
Edit: I checked the tour dates. FM was in Germany in 1980 for the Tusk Tour, 1988 for the TITN tour, and 1990 for BTM tour. As to the author's theory on what was going on in Stevie's room with whoever - given the mention of them not being very energetic, I think it was alluding to the intake of some mellow-making substances perhaps.... |

 I find it kinda hard to believe that a random concierge hotel employee would even know that Rick or Billy were a "guitarist" in Fleetwood Mac. The fact that the writer brought up Pink Floyd in the same sentence as FM, makes me think he was referring to the 1980 tour anyway......when both were in Germany touring. (esp. since FM didn't tour in 1989) |
I find it hard to believe anyone would pick out Rick or Billy too and especially overseas. Here's the dates though...
1980 - FM - June 1-8 1981 - Pink Floyd -Feb 13-20 1988 - FM - June 4-12 Pink Floyd - June 16-29 |
great story thanks for sharing.

[QUOTE=danax6;735449] Maybe it wasn't the guitarist, maybe it was John?

I have heard from more than one source, a few of which claimed to be roadies and one, a road hard and put up wet looking woman who made a good marriage with a wealthy older man, had proof [on edit - of being a roadie] in the form of a picture -- that the band all slept with each other, sometimes in orgies which included them, in drug induced states. Take that for what you will. But, given that it was the 70's, which were a sexually free and much different era, I kind of do not doubt it. I mean look at that footage of an incoherent Nicks and wasted CM after the Japan Rumors concert  ALso, guys, when drunk and hormey, will stick in anything willing and La Nicks and CM were swell lookers already. Throw some drugs in the mix and who knows.

^ She has a picture of an orgy which involved Stevie Nicks?
I have to let this one sink in a little first. |
^^^
Now THAT would be the money shot indeed!!!! It was a private snapshot of her with the band just hanging out while on the road. It was not sexual. Sorry for the confusion, titilating as it was  Plus, what was it Sweet Connit said about the FM girls - she almost had them convinced to join in or something like that. |
Here is an exact quote:
So we play a quick game of Who Have You Done? I point to a picture of Fleetwood Mac, a Clinton favorite. "Did 'em all," she says. "Even the women?" I ask. "Close, but no cigar," she sighs. |

That video is kind of bizarre. Whether it be because they're completely out of it or just trying to get it done and over with, Mick, Christine and Lindsey look totally stone-faced and emotionless and seem to be having none of John and Stevie's giddy ridiculousness. It's almost freaky!
|
Watching the video reminded me of CAH's passage in STORMS about the shoot...how she had to rush out and buy clothes for Lindsey....and the only shop that was open carried women's clothing... so Lindsey's duds (aka silk shirt & blazer) buttoned on the "female" side.
As for the musical beds....CAH's account was that she and Lindsey were like Chang & Eng, inseparable... Hmm....ever read that book about how Chang and Eng were able to father children? |

From the part of the album shoot on tape, Lindsey is totally ignoring Stevie. There's one time when he deigns to get into an argument with her about music, but other than that, he ignores her. Yet, when the Tusk photos come out there is one where she is laying on his shoulder and he's wrestling with John with one arm, the other around her. I'm thinking she must have spent 2 hours maneuvering to get into that position. I also like it when Christine says, "but John doesn't like for me to touch him." And the way that Lindsey and Stevie are both trying to style Chris' limp hair for her. Stevie is playing with both Mick and John and when the photographer says "work those guys" she just screams. So funny. I like the part when Christine puts her arm around Lindsey and he thinks it is Mick and says, "dude has long arms," and Chris thinks that is the funniest thing she has ever heard and the way she tells Stevie, standing on the sidelines, to get back in the picture. They are all wasted, but so intriguing to watch. Michele |

It's also cool the way her necklace has reversed itself and is hanging down her back. Michele |

Note -- there are three parts (I think) to that Tusk Photo shoot.

I have three separate shoots as well, but two of them are on the same dvd.
