2008 Calendar Pics (SortaSpoilerIsh)
 

Well, here's the good news: the pictures in this one are way better than the ones in the last. I still don't plan on buying it, but I have nothing against anyone who does.

Here's the bad news. There are still no full length shots, and one too many doped-out RAL outtakes. I still like Neal Preston better, because he photographs Stevie as a performer and an icon, as opposed to Herbert Worthington, who tends to photograph her as a posed and perfect product.

These photos have small watermarks on them, except for the BD rose and beret one. They aren't mine.

I think he's a good photographer, and these were probably full length shots to begin with... I just think he likes to zoom in to her face instead of giving up the whole shot.... I'd prefer full length shots personally.

Yup, definitely better than the last one! There are only three pictures I don't like, and two that are meh. The rest is great. :wavey:

I haven't ordered mine yet (broke from the holidays!) but I am in LOVE with this calendar!!!! I adore Herbie's shots of Stevie, I'd much rather have a calendar of studio outtakes than live shots, but that's just my opinion :D

I cannot wait to see these full size! And the crack whore one is my favorite shot, it's so Nightbird with the eye makeup dark and careless.

(Unlike Shel, I prefer live, too, but only from olden times. For contemporary, I prefer studio. I still think Worthington's best work was for Rumours.)

Here's a scan I found. I think it looks worse when seen bigger. Why is her nose so shiny? Why does she need to wear so much eyeshadow? In half of the RAL pictures I've ever seen she looks like Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner! :rolleyes:

I too am loving the crack ho look so very 80s punk rockish looking. The 3 that preceed that one are very nice indeed.

I really hate the one where she is quating with the cape over her head. Blech.

You are right; she does look reminiscent of Pris from Blade Runner. . . but I think that is a cool thing!

I don't recall any pictures like it where she has the dark eyeshadow going all the way around her eyes. Are there any others similar to it?

If crack-whores looked as friggin fab as SN in that over-decadent, over-made up look of the late 80's...crack ho's wouldn't have such a bad rap.
I for one am not so fond of that SN era or look, but still, omfg, she looks SO wonderful. It's in itself, Stevie changing her look for the times w/out changing her persona. Not like Madge w/ a WHOLE new look, but one updated for the times. Whimsy, still the airy-fairy look and LOADS of blush. :laugh: Not my bag, but not bad at all.
And I agree that these pics are FAR better than the prior HWW effort.

I think this calendar is really great (does anyone know if it has holes in it for hanging?). As far as the 80s crack whore look goes, I guess you just had to be there. :shrug: Unfortunately we all didn't appear so well when attempting that look.

Yup! That's just rock and roll, baby. Well 80s rock and roll that is. :D Nowadays if that look were done everything but the eyes would be downplayed. Like no fried, huge hair and no red lips or red blush. But back then that was the look. Especially for the men. :lol:

There is a hole to hang it. I emailed Herbie prior to ordering and requested a hole be punched in it. He wrote back and said that many people did the same thing, so most if not all of the new calendars will have the hole. He said the reason why the other calendars didn't have the hole was because people at the time said that hole would take away from the shots.
That's all well and good, but what's the sense of a calendar if you can't hang it up!!!??
