Christine or the other girl?

Are there really humans who prefer Stevie Nicks to Christine McVie?

http://wunderlampe.livejournal.com/10671.html

I believe this person is waiting for your answer.

As difficult as it may be to believe, I do think that yes there are some people who prefer Nicks to Chris McVie. I don't pretend to understand such people, or even excuse them, or offer them clemency in times of social unrest. However, maybe such people simply aren't all that important to anyone but their loved ones.

I think they are both great in very different ways. To the vast majority of people, La Nicks is the bright flame that draws the attention. She has a mystery and beauty that CM does not have. On the other hand, CM tends to shy away from the light and presents herself, when compelled to do so, in a straight forward manner. That is great, but it lessens her cache for many, especially when La Nicks' super nova is standing right there. Is Cm a better musician - no question, she is.

Anyway, I like them both.

I completely agree with every word. They both make me laugh too, although in completely different ways.

Very nicely put.

I always think Christine is a musician and Stevie is a rock star.

Stevie WAS a rock star. Chris is STILL a musician.

I disagree. I think though "we" are tired of her set lists, etc., La Nicks still rocks the house on EO17, SB etc. I cannot tell you how many average fans I have spoken to at concerts that say she a rock star, etc. - and that is based on those newer performances. Having said that, La Nicks is nowhere near the lithe dancer with the huge voice that she was in 1981. But, that does not mean she still is not a rock star

Yes, she is, though I did not think "In the Meantime" was a good example of that. I wish CM would do a record with piano only, no overdubs, and 30's music. I have always thought she could cover The Andrew Sisters as well.

I think Stevie could still pull in the crowds on a tour.

Christine on the other hand has no desire to do that

What can I say? Celine Dion still reels 'em in, too, with her big, bland, glitzy show. Stevie has lost it, as far as I'm concerned, whereas Christine is still sultry, sexy, beautiful, accomplished -- still the perfect pop-rock star, the quintessence of all that I hold dear. The actual mechanics of her ability are at apex: the playing & singing are unbeatable, the way she stands, the way she moves, the way she sounds, the way she feels ... incomparable. (In short, when Chris sings, you don't hear snot rattling around in her esophagus.)

God bless Queen Christine!! :thumbsup::blob2::wavey:

I'm not tired of her set lists; I just don't enjoy listening to the snot move around in her upper gullet.

Are you kidding?! You don't think "In the Meantime" is a good example of Christine's musicianship? One of us has ear wax problems, strand!

In the Meantime is an excellent, underrated, undersold collection of songs.

Yeah, it's a good example of her musicianship on many songs. I'd love to see her play the end of Northern Star live, for example. Her voice superb and her phrasing and inflection conveyed every ounce of experience and emotion you could hope for.

Yet, while I enjoyed the album overall, there were a couple of tracks that took me on a very, ah, bad journey.

I just did not care for it. But, to each their own. I found the songs mostly the same sounding and IMO uninspired. Don't get me wrong, even not so great CM is still better than 99% of the crapola out there. Now, I found Temporary One very inspired, though IMO she reached her greatest on Tusk and Why is the best thing she ever wrote.

As for focusing on La Nicks' voice as the def. of a Rock Star, I submit there are other qualities she possesses. But, I agree, her voice is not that great these days, though she can choose to use it in a great way when the spirit moves her, which IMO is not often.

I agree. And, her vocals were my favorites of hers ever. Her voice sounded so smooth & effortless. Amazing for her age! I've been playing ITM quite a bit lately.

Christine's pinnacle is the double whammy of You Make Loving Fun & Butter Cookie from 1976.

Ah, well. Stevie is Stevie. You know me. Whatcha gonna do? Stevie is Stevie, ya know?

Anyway, in honor of Christine, please enjoy these thumbnail (expandable) photos of a beat-up combo pianet.

The heady, sexy days of Chris & her German pianet are long, long past. :(

I often have imagined what she could have done on a Celesta - the thought is inspiring isn't it?

ITM was okay. A few songs I really liked. I dunno about the Andrews Sisters, but I have always felt like (at least as far as her solo albums go) she just didn't have the right material to work with. I heard her first album, Christine Perfect, and honestly was not that knocked out by it. I like her in a more bluesy context, but I can see why she wasn't satisfied with it. She was on the right track with the Elvis Presley cover.

CM's voice is certainly much more appealing than SN's at this point, I must say. I love Stevie's early solo stuff, but after RAL she loses me, except for The Dance.

jbrownsjr 12-14-2007 02:24 AM

The more I listen to In The Meantime, the more I see how the radio missed out on some killer hits. Bad Journey is not a favorite here... but I love the way she phrases on the verses, "everything was looking good, just like it should" "trusted you with all my heart, never dreamt you tear me apart"

her tone on those verses is so solid.... her harmonies are fantastic as always... these lyrics make me reflect....

I still think the arrangements are a little too simple... You Are needs another section.. but the chord progressions in the intro and bridge so cool!!! Like Little LIes.. to many repetitions...

She does however do some different stuff vocally with Calumy...

I think Christine's keyboard playing is groovin... she loves to groove with bass and drums and that's half the battle in a recording studio...

Would have like to see someone more complex than Steve Ferone... but my guess is he was forced to the chart in front of him. "dont get to ****ing fancy!"

Don't forget to read the great write up in the liner notes by her brother.. It's great reading...

As for Stevie... I do like her and every time I want to rag on her I have to remember that she wrote GDust, Dreams, Rhiannon, Stand Back, Crystal (ok I'm reaching a little here), EO17, etc.., but I don't go out of my way to buy her new rehashed music or DVD. I love the Rhiannon intro with CM and SN off of "The Dance".. They should have done the whole song with just Christine on Piano, Stevie on vocals and Mick on minor percussion... Simply beautiful arrangement of Rhiannon...

I agree - ot just CM and La Nicks. I listen to those 70's era and even Mirage era (Rhiannon) songs where they both sing the lead and it is just great. Imagine for a minute if CM had come into the TISL sessions instead of Crow or even with Crow. TISL IMO sorely was missing the piano that made BD and WH such classics, not to mention FM. Also, I think La Nicks' voice on a few of the IMT songs would have been great. In the end and as I always say, the product of the FM five are WAY larger than the solo efforts of each, as good as those may be.

They did do that a little, although without Mick on the Tango tour with HAEWAFY. I really liked that, much better than "Landslide".

Yes. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

With all respect, truly all respect.. this question is completely stupid.. and not because I like a girl more than the other. It's because that's what humans are about.. some prefer soccer, others prefer basketball
some prefer wine.. others prefer whisky
some prefer men.. others prefer girls..
some walk by night.. some fly by day..
Moonlighting strangers
Who just met on the waaaay

so.. humans may like anything.. your friends may like what you hate.. that's what this world is made of.. isn't that cool? (whenever it doesn't start fights nor wars of course)

Instead of that question, I'd ask.. Are there really humans who doesn't like music?? (i don't know anyone...
