Cloaks And Daggers/"Live Unapproved"

Are these the same show? When I had them both, they sounded remarkably alike...on the "come and get it" thread, someone ad posted C&d but now it won't work...could someone repost please?

Thanx
Brian:confused:

Wish I could help but I don't know what Live Unapproved is.

Cloaks & Daggers (of which there are two releases--one on Smiling Pig label & one on KTS Records label) is a shortened bootleg of the audience digital recording of Poplar Creek, June 21, 1986.

I have another bootleg CD called Unauthorised on the Joker label. The front cover says it's Chicago 1986 (in other words, Poplar Creek) but it's really the Whiskey radio broadcast from 1991 (also bootlegged on Livespace).

All I remember is that on both versions during EO17 she kind of screamed/howled some lines from "Nightbird"...very cool

I believe Clocks and Daggers is a combination of a Rock A Little show and a Bella Donna show, or its just two BD shows put together.

Live and Unapproved in Australia is the other one, and its actually the Poplar Creek show that has been cleaned up and is alot more bassy than the actual recording.

iamovercome 10-22-2007 12:52 PM

oooooh ok...well then Live Unapproved is the one I'm looking for then...another one that got stolen...anyone up for a trade or some such?
That woudl be awesome

The one you are talking about is called "Dreamer" and is a mix of the Los Angeles 1981 and Oakland 1983. It is a very bad mix because the songs fade in at the beginning and fade out at the end. I don't own that bootleg, but remember having a Roxette bootleg from that label, which I bought new in a shop on my 8th birthday, so it has to be released from the early 90s.
As far as I remember, the Wild Heart part of the show (from Oakland) was a soundboard recording.

My understanding is the Live Unapproved is a radio promo that was bootlegged into an Australian import CDR/CD. It is not the same show as "Cloak and Daggers" since it is a professional recording and C&D is a well recorded "Audience" recording.

gldstwmn 10-22-2007 11:51 PM

Cloaks and Daggers and Live Unapproved have subtle differences. They are definitely from the same tour but some of her vocal ad libs aren't the same.

So is anybody able to identify this Unapproved bootleg? As I said earlier, I'm unfamiliar with it. Cloaks & Daggers is edited June 21, 1986 (Poplar Creek/Chicago). Unauthorised Live Vol. 1 is the Whiskey 1991 radio broadcast.

What is Unapproved?! If Chris is correct & it's from the same tour, what show is it? The Weedsport radio broadcast? The Alpine Valley May 31 show (taped by the same guy who taped Poplar Creek)?

Somebody come through with the answer please. You are all so kind & so giving. I beg of you. . .
Bright Blessings,

Live Unapproved is an audience recording of one of her Sydney shows from 1986, in B+ quality. I think the same show was also professionaly recorded as a present for her band (might be the last night of the tour). 4 sobgs of that are available on master reel.

I got Dreamer, Live Unapproved, Cloaks And Daggers and Live Unautherized on mp3 and I can upload them later. :)

iamovercome 10-23-2007 07:51 AM

that would be awesome!!

Thank you

kathy1 10-23-2007 08:06 AM

thanks i would like to see what you have also.

I would rate it better than that. My copy is a pressed disc of sbd quality.

This is a collection of the most common brand bootlegs, which were sold in regular stores in the end-80s, early 90s.

"Dreamer" (Stentor STEN 91.015)
Live at the Beverly Wilshire Theatre, Los Angeles, CA
13 December 1981 (Bella Donna Tour)
*Live at the Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, CA

02. Outside The Rain
03. Dreams
04. I Need To Know
05. Sara
06. Leather And Lace*
07. Stand Back*
08. Beauty And The Beast*
09. Gold And Braid
10. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
11. Edge Of Seventeen
12. Rhiannon
Soundboard recording
A ery good soundboard recording. The Oakland portion (3 songs) was edited in the "released" version of the last night of the Bella Donn tour, her HBO Special. Songs fade in and out, which makes it annoying, because it fades out when the audience sound starts, so you don't really get a live feeling, but good bootleg neverthelss. The CD was released in 1992 and claims the concert is from 1984, this is wrong.

"Live & Unapproved"
Live in Australia
September & October 1986 (Rock A Little Tour)
01. I Need To Know
02.
03. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
04. Leather And Lace
05. Beauty And The Beast
06. Dreams
07. Talk To Me
08. How Still My Love
09. Stand Back
10. Edge Of Seventeen
Audience recording
Very good audience recording. Quality A-. It is supposed to be a compilation of her Australian solo tour from 1986. Sound is very clear for an audience recording.

"Cloaks And Daggers" (Kiss The Stone KTS 045)
Live at the Poplar Creek, Chicago, IL
21 June 1986 (Rock A Little Tour)
01. Outside The Rain
02. Dreams
03. Talk To Me
04. I Need To Know
05. No Spoken Word
06. Beauty And The Beast
07. Leather And Lace
08. I Can't Wait
09. Stand Back
10. Band Intros
11. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
12. How Still My Love
13. Edge Of Seventeen
Audience recording
Another very clear audience recording from that tour. CD has been released in Italy in 1992.

"Live Unautherized" aka "Whiskey-A-Go-Go-Show"
Live at The Whiskey A Go Go, Los Angeles, CA
14 November 1991
01. Outside The Rain
02. Dreams
03. Talk To Me
04. Band Intros
05. Stand Back
06. Whole Lotta Trouble
07. Love's A Hard Game To Play
08. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
09. Edge Of Seventeen
10. Landslide
FM recording
Another radio concert from Stevie. Perfect quality and probably only in-concert recording of "Love's A Hard Game To Play".

"Welcome To My World"
Live at House Of Blues, Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA
19 September 1994 (Street Angel Tour)
01. Outside The Rain
02. Dreams
03. Rooms On Fire
04. Rhiannon
05. Stand Back
06. Destiny
07. Gold Dust Woman
08. Talk To Me
09. Edge Of Seventeen
10. The Chain
11. I Need To Know
FM recording
Another piece of Stevie concert post-recording art. Stevie was sick on that day and most vocals were re-recorded afterwards. Ths how was first broadcasted on 23 January 1995.
______________________________________________________________________________

These are a few bootlegs that people (and I) mentioned, also for download:

Live at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds, Weedsport, NY (Westwood One Radio Show)
06 September 1986 (Rock A Little Tour)
01. Outside The Rain
02. Dreams
03. Talk To Me
04. I Need To Know
05. Beauty And The Beast
06. Leather And Lace
07. Stand Back
08. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
09. How Still My Love
10. Edge Of Seventeen
11. Rhiannon (Piano Intro)
12. Rhiannon
FM recording
Westwood One Radio Broadcast of the last leg of the Rock A Little tour (even after the Red Rocks concert).

Live at the Entertainment Centre, Sydney, Australia
24 September 1986 (Rock A Little Tour)
01. Outside The Rain/Dreams
02. Talk To Me
03. Beauty And The Beast
04. Leather And Lace
05. I Can't Wait
06. Stand Back
07. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
08. How Still My Love
09. Edge Of Seventeen
10. I Need To Know
11. No Spoken Word
12. Rhiannon
13. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You
Audience recording
One of Stevie's Sydney concert from 1986. Quality is okay, varies from A- to B.

Live at the Entertainment Centre, Sydney, Australia (Master Reel #97)
06 October 1986 (Rock A Little Tour)
01. Outside The Rain
02. Dreams
03. Talk To Me
Soundboard recording
Stevie recorded this concert as a present for her band in it features the last concert of the Rock A Little tour. This is the original numbered master reels and to my information, this portion in the only available recording of that night, so don't ask, I don't have the rest and probably no one on this board either and if they didn't wouldn't want to or weren't allowed to share it.

You're a good collector of data, dave. Just a few factual inaccuracies in your list, but otherwise great!

Here is the tracklisting of the "Live Unapproved" disc I have:

This Unapproved or Unauthorized thing you're talking about has got to be a show from' 91 cause it has Love's a Hard Game to Play which was a new song in '91 and was only song on the Timespace tour of '91~ This definetly is not from RAL, BD, or WH time~

Unapproved doesn't have Love's A Hard Game To Play on it. It's an abbreviated set of 10 songs including Talk To Me and I Can't Wait. There's nothing later than that on it. My copy is from Mojo-056.
I think you might be confusing this with a boot called Pretty Mac Goes Metal, which does include Love's A Hard Game To Play. My copy has way too much treble. It has 11 songs on it beginning with HAEWAFY. (?) Anybody have a better copy of this one?

No, Chris. She's confusing it with Unauthorised -- Unauthorised & Unapproved are two different things. Part of the problem is that the Unauthorised cover misidentifies the year of performance.

Pretty Mac is the Whiskey broadcast. There's better sound on that on the Livespace CD, the one with the black cat on the cover. Excellent sound on that one, plus a bonus of four songs from Houston '89 broadcast.
