"You Do or You Don't"
While listening to "You Do or You Don't" I recognized a part of "Bleed to Love Her" towards the end. Does anyone know the story on why he used that bit of music and lyric twice?

That was one of the questions I asked him for the Q&A. Hopefully he'll answer it! :wavey:

Good question. I love it, just like I love the Illume / Destiny Rules repeat

And the days go by doing nothing about them appears on If You Ever Did Believe and Forest of the Black Roses.
In Stevie and Tom's So Sad Stevie used those words in her diary. When she had that diary entry back in 1977 and said "Lindsey and I are at an end. So sad to see good love go bad." The strain of falling down and getting up in Loving Cup and Family Man This isn't a repeated lyric, but it's my favorite continued lyric from Lindsey: Don't Let Me Down Again: There's just one thing I'd like you to know: I've got no more to lose if you go Second Hand News: One thing I think you should know: I ain't gonna miss you when you go |

They belong together, truly. :]

Going back to the song...You Do or You Don't...
AT the end of the song, he doesn't exactly humm....but sings notes. It took me a long time to figure out what tune that is... Anyone old enough to remember "There's a Summer Place" ? I swear that's the tune he's singing. Anyone care to comment? |

http://www.warnerchappell.com/wcm_2/...ngId=120646500 I've been breaking my brains over this for years now as it seemed so familiar. Something from my childhood days, but i just could not figure out what. Thank you !!:xoxo: |

He does that sort of thing a lot, not always on the lyrical level though. Stephanie and Eyes Of the World have the same guitar riff. Part of I Want You's melody came from I Don't Want to Know. If I can think of any more I'll post them.

Hey David that's an awesome picture in your signature, you wouldn't happen to have a larger version would you? It'd make a great desktop. Isn't it from the '78 AMA's where Carol Anne Harris described Lindsey getting trashed out of his mind....and the sombrero :o

At first I thought I was crazy thinking that. Glad to see someone else does too! |

Stevie also says "dream on silly dreamer" in the Nightmare piano demo. And she says, "I'd like to leave you with something warm" in both Nightmare and Storms.
Lindsey uses "faces of glass" in Loving Cup too. Faces of glass work well in DOR on several levels, because they have their noses pressed up against the shop windows on Rodeo Drive. I like the difference between falling down and getting up in Loving Cup and Family Man, because in Loving Cup it's like the couple is falling and getting up together, working out their problems, instead of giving up on each other. In Family Man, he's more solitary, which is ironic, given the song title. And he also flies down Juniper more than once. Michele |

When he was recording Soundstage, Lindsey used the same solo for Murrow that he does at the end of ISA and he commented, "I'm stealing from myself."

I listened to both songs back to back, and I still couldnt notice that. plus if LB did use some of IDWK, couldn't SN have sued him??? |

He also uses "faces of glass" in 'On the Wrong Side'. "Faces of liars and faces of glass/Oh, they walk by the window/But they never got passed." So it's used in a similar way to DOR. |

Lindsey gives some of the same force & heft to the chorus of Book of Love that he put in Go Your Own Way by using essentially the same chord progression on the chorus of both, just employing augmentation techniques. Every songwriter & every composer does this sort of thing. Even Thomas Dolby. ;) |

Could just be my imagination, but listen to IDWK without the vocals and I think you may hear some similarities. http://www.sendspace.com/file/mihlm5 |

For Soundstage, I just think Lindsey was improvising with Murrow on the spot, since that song was not in FM's setlist and he probably hadn't really fleshed out a live arrangement for it. Of some reused material Lindsey has said that he didn't necessarily have a theme in mind, but was just being "lazy." Obviously, sometimes there was a theme. I definitely think the Tusk songs of his were meant to fit together, as components of one body. Stevie has said that the Sara in Sara and Welcome to the Room are the same. She meant something there. I even think Lindsey meant something about his priorities growing outward instead of being self-involved by the song title "It Was You" as opposed to "It Was I." Although, I realize "It Was I" was just a cover. Michele |

The Carol Anne pic with him is cute. He's really, really pale though. His hands are, like, chalk-white. |

btw, I spoke out of turn. The Kenny Rogers incident was at the Grammy awards. |

the music sounds different than on the Rumours version. Do You have any more Rumours songs like that? Its really cool!! As for the IDWK/IWY connection, I still cant hear it. I bet Stevie has heard the whole GI album, at least once.... |
