OMG! Led Zeppelin are reforming for a one-off gig
Can anyone get me a ticket to this? Please?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6990704.stm Led Zeppelin confirm reunion gig Rock group Led Zeppelin are to reform for a tribute concert to the Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun. Singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones will perform together for the first time in 19 years. Tickets for the one-off show at the O2 arena in London on 26 November will cost £125 and be allocated by ballot. Pete Townshend and Bill Wyman will also perform. Ertegun, who signed Led Zeppelin in the 1970s, died last year. "During the Zeppelin years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major fund of solidarity and accord," Plant said. "For us, he was Atlantic Records and remained a close friend and conspirator. This performance stands alone as a tribute to the work and life of a longstanding friend." Promoter Harvey Goldsmith said tickets would only be available to those who registered on a dedicated website - and that a limit of two applications per household had been imposed. Fans have been excitedly discussing the show on message boards - but many are concerned about how difficult it will be to get a ticket. "Who wants to join me sleeping outside the O2 until I can get a ticket?" wrote one. "And if that doesn't work, I can also sell myself into slavery, or if all of me is not wanted, I will auction off my blood, organs and all worldly possessions. Think I'm kidding?" Another wrote: "Anybody got three grand to spare for a ticket? I bet that's what the going rate will be. Touts will have a field day with this one." And another comment said: "The tickets will be silly money to start with and the sharks will make a killing. "It will be hard for them to perform anywhere near their old levels, and I fear there will be a whole lotta disappointment!" Uncut magazine writer Chris Roberts told BBC Radio Five Live: "A younger generation - as well as the people who might remember Led Zeppelin from the first time around - are very excited about this. "They're pretty much the Picasso of heavy rock. Led Zeppelin's albums have certainly lasted the test of time and they're pretty much the template of heavy rock at its best." With their pounding, blues-influenced anthems and explosive stadium shows, the band paved the way for artists across the worlds of heavy metal and alternative rock. Their best-known songs include Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, Rock and Roll, Kashmir and Communication Breakdown - although they never released singles in the UK. Led Zeppelin's last full concert was in Berlin in July 1980 - two months before John Bonham died. Page, Plant and Jones performed at Live Aid five years later, and also get back together at a concert to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Atlantic Records in 1988. But a rift opened between Jones and the other two band members opened after Page and Plant started working together without him in the 1990s. Rumours of a reconciliation surfaced several years ago, leading to speculation about a reunion. Their return follows comebacks by a number of other rock and pop legends, such as The Police, Genesis, the Spice Girls, Crowded House and Take That. The concert coincides with the release of a new two-CD best of compilation, Mothership, on 13 November. Other acts lined up for the show include Foreigner and Paolo Nutini. |
OMG, I want a ticket also! :eek::eek:

Where do I go about trying to score a ticket. Good ole' Ticketmaster? I'm so excited I may vomit. |
You have to register for the ballot:
http://www.ahmettribute.com/ It's not working at the moment. Apparently it crashed the minute they announced it and I've been trying it ever since. Oh and registration ends on Monday. Also only two tickets per household, if you're selected to buy tickets that is. |

Website is not working for me either. They probably only accept credit cards, right? |
I'm not sure how you pay for them because first you have to register, then your name goes in a ballot. I guess then, if you are picked you pay for them.
Stupid site  If we could get on it we could find out! |

Well, I own everything they ever brought out, love everything and they are the most influencial rockband in history. But I wouldn't pull a leg to see them live overseas. they were poor 19 years ago....no Bonzo, no Zep.
Although I witnessed some VERY thrilling Plant-solo shows later on... |

LED ZEP REUNION - TOUR STILL A POSSIBILITY
Having caused meltdown at the O2 box office, Led Zeppelin will know that a reunion tour would be completely sold out. The question is, do they want to go back on the road? by Gez Kahan 24/09/2007 The surviving members of Led Zeppelin – Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones – will be joined by John Bonham’s son Jason for a one-off appearance at London’s O2 Arena on 26 November in a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records. The last time the four appeared on stage together was in 1988 for Atlantic’s 40th birthday party. Led Zeppelin had disbanded after the death of John Bonham in 1980 (exactly 27 years ago tomorrow), vowing never to tour again, and only appearing in concert at Live Aid in 1985 (with Tony Thompson and Phil Collins on drums) and the Atlantic Records gig three years later. The chances of the band ever reforming were also hit by a rift with Jones, who was reportedly upset not to have been consulted before Page & Plant began touring again. Their reunion for the O2 gig is a measure of the band’s affection and respect for Ertegun. Industry speculation suggests that Led Zeppelin might consider a full tour if the O2 gig is a success. The possibility was admitted by a close friend of Plant’s at a Music Week-sponsored conference iGuitar attended last week, where a forthcoming tour – but no new recording – was discussed as if it were a done deal. No official confirmation has been forthcoming, however, and no dates or venues have been mentioned. Meanwhile promoter Harvey Goldsmith has warned fans not to buy tickets for the O2 event through unofficial sources such as eBay. The tickets, priced at £125, are being made available by public ballot to try to prevent touts from profiteering from what is actually a charity concert – profits being donated to scholarships in Ertegun’s name. Demand has been fierce, with over 20 million applications for just 20,000 tickets. “We just hope and pray that those people who get a ticket in a ballot are just going to act accordingly,” said Goldsmith, adding that tickets offered through internet auction and other unauthorized sources would be cancelled. “They might have paid the money but they ain't going to get the ticket,” he said. http://www.licklibrary.com/iGuitar/240907-LedZep.asp |

Jimmy Page To Hold Press Conference?
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 01.25.2008 What could he be announcing? According to a posting on the Led Zeppelin fan site Royal-Orleans.com, Led Zep guitarist Jimmy Page will hold a press conference at Park Hyatt Hotel in Shinjyuku, Japan on Monday, January 28th. It's been anticipated that Led Zeppelin could earn well over $200 million if they toured this year in the wake of last month's reunion show in London. The band has offers from both Live Nation and AEG, with each structuring bids in the form of a large upfront payment to lure the band to their venues. http://www.411mania.com/music/news/6...onference?.htm |

I thought this was 100% in the bag already. No? Hmmm. Well, not a HUGE LZ fan, but this is on my MUST list this year. Still, I'm going to do all I can to go. I am just sure it was sealed. I had heard the Cult was opening and everything. Man...any excuse to go see the Cult again. haha

Nothing's been officially announced, but there were rumours galore. The Cult started the one about themselves opening.

ROBERT PLANT Says No To LED ZEPPELIN Tour And £100M
According to Sean Hamilton from the Sundaymirror.co.uk, Robert Plant has turned down an extra £100million fortune to take LED ZEPPELIN on a world tour. The rock legend wants to concentrate on his new partnership with US country singer ALISON KRAUSS... spelling the likely end of the famous band. Led Zep fans had been longing for a tour announcement since last year - when the 1970s superstars reformed for a one-off show at London's O2 Arena. Surviving members Plant, Robert Page and John Paul Jones were offered a guaranteed £100m each for a tour of North America and Europe after a million fans applied for O2 tickets. But after extensive talks Led Zep - best known for the song 'Stairway To Heaven'- decided against the moneymaking opportunity. Guitarist Jimmy Page, 64, was keen to do the tour this year and was backed by bass player John Paul, 62. But singer Plant, 59 - already worth an estimated £70million - wants to concentrate on his new success with US country singer Krauss. The pair's duet album Raising Sand went to No 2 in America and Britain and they are starting their own tour in April. A band source said: "Despite the enormous offer, the decision did not come down to money. They always said they would do the one-off show and then see how they felt." |

As for the FM reunion scenario you hypothesized, it wouldn't have been too far off from The Dance, since it was, after all, modeled after/took place because of the massive success of Eagles/Hell Freezes Over. |
