Who's gonna be the best Bob Dylan?
In Todd Haynes' new Bob Dylan film, six actors portray the Bobster at different stages in his life: Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, Richard Gere, Christian Bale, Ben Whishaw (he's the actor in Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer) and newcomer Marcus Carl Franklin.
Who's gonna be the best? (I'm not gonna include Marcus in the poll since he's a newbie). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ans-reveal.jpg |
So did Bob Dylan go through a stage in his life where he was a long lanky middle-aged blonde British woman? If so, I think Cate Blanchett would be perfect for that part! :xoxo:

Cate's actually Australian ;)
Have you seen her done up as Dylan? She looks amazing http://bp1.blogger.com/_W_hPHI-p3O8/...-blanchett.jpg |
i say cate!
and god sharon, don't you know that all you silly people who speak english but spell "honor" with a u and say things like "i reckon" are all the same to us? :D |
I think Cate looks great as Dylan.

And I reckon Marcus Carl Franklin is probably the most interesting: he plays plays Dylan as a boy named Woody!? http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...l-franklin.jpg |

umm...... When was dylan a young black boy..... or when was he an "I look like an old version of John Lennon"? I guess I don't get it. But I have heard about this movie and I really want to see it.

Also I never said she looks amazingly like Dylan just that she looks amazing. Bale, Ledger or Gere don't look like him either, so what? |
I gotta go with Cate on every account.

I think Cate is going to be fabulous. I am not really a fan of Heath Ledger and Richard Gere, so I am not expecting much. I'm really looking forward to this movie though.
|
I voted Christian Bale, but it's really even between him and Cate. They're my favorite actors!
I for one think the concept is very interesting. |
This is such a bad idea for a movie. (I just pray that the offal Todd Haynes never touches Fleetwood Mac after what he did to glam, Sirk, and, now, Dylan). Only one person could play Dylan: Adam Sandler.

Physical likeness isn't everything. |

i don't think he "did" anything to glam ... velvet goldmine was great. btw, i think the word you're looking for is "awful" although "offal" in that context is pretty funny. |
Cate blanchett by a mile. She's my favourite actress so got to say that. She's going to win the Oscar next year for the Golden Age - lay your bets now -don't say i didn't give you the heads up early!
And she's not only Australian but also only 35 - does that count as middle aged now???? |

I suppose 35 (or so she claims to be) is a bit shy of middle age... but it's definitely around the corner from it. I'm a few years older and I consider myself firmly middle aged. I have never understood why people in their late 40s and 50s consider themselves "middle aged." I mean, since when did people begin to assume we were all going to live to be 100? |
Cate Blanchett by far and then Christian Bale. The trailer is quite impressive, and I've always liked Todd Haynes, even in his most baroque moments there's always something good.

I loves me some Christian Bale...:xoxo:

Richard Gere looks like Rick Vito with a beard.:D

And as for: i think the word you're looking for is "awful" although "offal" in that context is pretty funny. I intentionally used the word "offal." That's what Todd Haynes is to me, and his movies. Offal. |

I think Richard Gere and Heath Ledger look the most promising to me at this point. |

Hmmm, can't picture Adam Sandler playing Dylan other than in a skit, but I guess if Cate can play him, then why not?
More on Cate playing Dylan, plus a clip, here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1773 I thought this was interesting: "I'm Not There is the first biographical feature to win the approval of Dylan." Also there was this from producer Harvey Weinstein in the New York Times recently: He said he also planned to position Ms. Blanchett, who plays Mr. Dylan during his “Blonde on Blonde” phase, for an Oscar. (Mr. Bale corresponds to “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan,” Mr. Ledger to “John Wesley Harding.”) “I may be jumping the gun,” Mr. Weinstein said, “but if Cate Blanchett doesn’t get nominated, I’ll shoot myself.” http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/21/mo...=1&oref=slogin |
