Which Stevie Contribution To Say You Will Is Your Favorite?

So, Stevie contributed, in my opinion, 9 classic songs to this album. Which one is your favorite? Mine kind of varies, and honestly I love them all, but at the moment, it's Running Through The Garden

Much Love,
Ethan

I cant beleive you made me choose between RTTG, TD, and GB...I even adore Destiny Rules. I picked RTTG because of the TD single mix I love, Im able to live without DR, and GB makes me cry too much :)

You should have made it least favorite...that would be so much easier....

What, Silver girl? I don't know why this song gets so much flak. It's a great song.... Or at least I think so, but then again, I love all of Stevie's songs.

LiamMcConville 08-16-2007 05:19 PM

Illume. Easy choice.

Chrislit18 08-16-2007 05:20 PM

No, its not that I personally hate it, its just my least favorite on SYW. Its not because of the lyrics, its because of the melody, it just makes me not like it as much as say-RTTG [oh do you have the demo Ethan, it is amazing!], Thrown Down, or even Smile At You [again, I like the angry demo better than here, but I still like it on SYW].

One of my petpeevs about Everybody Finds Out, is that Linds sings in the chorus, the 'i know he loves me....'etc. Its just it makes him sound...colorful in words.... she should have just sang it alone, and on SYHA she shouldnt have sang. but i still Love both of those songs

The Catdancer 08-16-2007 05:45 PM

I'm with Liam: Illume

Rickypt 08-16-2007 05:52 PM

Thrown Down, the only one that sounds like a Fleetwood Mac tune.

So you're on the "Thrown Down is the new Gypsy" team?

And high five Debbie! That song kicks ass. Especially demo #2.

Best:
Destiny Rules
Thrown Down

Worse:
Smile at You
Illume

My favorite is probably "Goodbye Baby." I love Stevie singing a soft lullabye.

Unfortunately, I don't care for "Illume." :o

Well, I'm definitely on the "Thrown Down" could have been on Mirage team. And I'm certainly on the why the **** was the song never played live team.

I thought he said it was her new Rhiannon. Either way, whatever.

My favorites are Goodbye Baby, Thrown Down, and Destiny Rules.

Really? That's so funny isn't it? I remember I chuckled when he said that because while it is an okay song, it's certainly no GDW.

wolfontherun 08-16-2007 09:00 PM

TD because it is close to flawless and souds most like a FM song to me. Linds soft guitar strokes as always are ever so cool esp against Stevie's vocals.

I actually prefer Illume.

steviefan59 08-16-2007 09:09 PM

destiny rules

hi all...well for me the best song on the album was destiny rules...i love the beat of the song as well as the lyrics...i wasn't really expecting much of an album without chris there and was surprised how many of the songs i really liked...thrown down, silver girl and destiny rules were my favs altho i loved the idea behind illume...smile at u was a disappointment bc the demo (angry) just burst with angst...then it turned out to be lahlahlah...take care...pat

I don't feel any of her songs today will ever reach a plateau like Gold Dust because she won't play any of them in concert. It really takes a few rounds of touring for those songs to truly come alive.

I don't really like Illume because there aren't enough chord changes. That doesn't lend much variety to the vocal.

michelle2677 08-16-2007 11:05 PM

silver girl.

I don't get why everyone hates it

Have you heard Outtake #2 of Illume? Its incredible. I think you may like it more because there's less guitar in general.

My main gripe with her SYW songs is that they should have been transposed to a key that better fit her range. Almost everything sounds ragged and flat to my ears. She had a big problem with Say You Will -- the song Say You Will, as Stevie would say -- on stage until the band finally transposed it for the second half of the SYW tour, and it sounded much better. So I think all of her SYW songs had the potential to be amazing, but most were poorly arranged. Lindsey's production work, which I call "Lindsey's revenge," doesn't help her songs either.

Post! Post! Please!:blob2: I have enjoyed Illume from the second i heard it. It is her most now-and-modern-rock-sounding song (aside from maybe fall from grace, or POTU) in YEARS. Its very cool. I can allways play that one for my friends who are into alot of the now bands, and it ALLWAYS gets respect.
yes, if shed actually do it live, and really mean the words, ect. it could be epic. it has all of the elements of stevie that i love. Mystic stevie, lyrical deep stevie, and it works well with her current range.

AND! Illume candles really are FREEKING AMAZING smelling. they induce INSTANT CALM.  I LOVE THEM.

Matthew 08-17-2007 06:44 AM

I love Running Through The Garden, it´s best SYW song! Most of Stevie´s songs on SYW album are very similar, but this not.

It´s a pity, that RTTG wasn´t released earlier, it would be better I think, sometimes in RAL or TOSOTM era. I know version from RAL Demos, but it´s not high-quality like official released songs on albums.

kathy1 08-17-2007 06:54 AM

i picked destiny rules.

It is a really incredible song...Jf she did it live, I'd want it to be completely acapella until she hits the line "Like a diamond snake in a black sky," where I want John to come in on bass ONLY until she hits the chorus and then Lindsey comes on some kick ass guitar, and back to acoustic when she gets back to the second stanza.

Here are the demos:

Illume #2 (My favorite)

The words are great. The snippet of the demo heard in the DR doc sounded great. Final product- not so much.

There are outtakes? I only know of center channel mixes and DVD A rips done by the fans.

I voted for Destiny Rules, but I like Illume & Everybody Finds Out. I think I even like Silver Girl as a song.

Good point. I don't think anyone would think twice today about Outside the Rain if it hadn't been used as an opener for awhile (& a semi-opener before that). Doing it live for so long raised it to mythic significance in the views of fans (well, you know what I mean). So now we all think, "What a great Stevie classic."

It's more of a groove song.

"Everybody Finds Out" is the song that left me breathless when it was over.
She hasn't done anything like that before or since. The production was great, her vocals were right on and the lyrical content was not your typical Stevie song. Loved it.

rbs

amen. I loved OTR as a studio track, but live it is a force to be reckoned with.

exactly. that's why I picked EFO. I do think, though, that the production is perfect. I wouldn't have had that weird vocoder thing at the beginning, but otherwise, it's perfection. I love the strings, the harmonies, the vocal, the lyrics...love it.

ETA: whoops...I misread what you said. you were saying the production was good. I read it as wasn't. sorry.

I love EFO too, especially because of the strings. But, I didn't pick it because I think the lyrics, are, well...kind of stupid.

Maybe thats why I don't like them. The stanza's are fine, but the chorus is awful.

After giving this some thought- I should have added EFO to my list. I *love* everything about this song as well- especially the lyrics. And I love how she pushes the vocals up a notch at the end- great, great song.

I know!

you don't know how hard I've tried to find or make an instrumental of this song so I could do it at shows, but all those layers make it impossible.

EFO is just perfection, as is Thrown Down. Those two are on the top of my list, followed closely by Illume and RTTG. Destiny Rules is fairly high up there, especially because of the lyrics (we'll forget the repetitiveness for a second) and would have been higher had the vocal sounded a little more inspired, not like she was reading from the phone book.
