Concert for Diana

Are you watching? It's live right now on www.vh1.com. Duran Duran is on right now. My sister loved them back in the 80s. I'll bet they will make a DVD out of this whole thing. This would be great & all proceeds could go to all of Diana's charities that she was involved in.

Lee :)

Chrislit18 07-01-2007 10:49 AM

i was watching a bit of it. i think its cool how her sons orginized this. :)
i think they are turely good people, and they take after her alot [i wasnt even alive when she was doing all the good that she did for the world, but from what i hear].

Not that many performers I like are going to be on it, other wise i would watch. it was a good idea, and now shell be remembered by a whole new generation

danax6 07-01-2007 10:56 AM

Watching Fergie now. Meh.

What is she wearing?

Lee 07-01-2007 10:57 AM

Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas is on now.

Yeah, Diana's sons are alot like her & that is a good thing.

Lee :)

BlackWidow 07-01-2007 10:58 AM

I cannot believe 10 yrs have gone by....

Chrislit18 07-01-2007 11:04 AM

did anyone on here [from the US] watch matt lauers interview with her sons? i thought it was really interesting, and that they had really good things to say. it was nice to hear thier side of the story.

i recorded this interview, it was so candid & it is so cool to see them as men, their mother would be proud~

ryan8472 07-01-2007 11:18 AM

Yay! I forgot this was on. OMG Nelly Furtado is coming up. :]

goldie 07-01-2007 11:24 AM

it's on this early? why did I think it was on tonight? her sons are so cute! It is so eerie how she died like that.

Lee 07-01-2007 11:37 AM

Yeah, it is hard to believe it's been 10 years. I really liked her. I cried watching her wedding to Prince Charles (happy tears) & I cried again watching her funeral (sad tears).

I don't know how to record from the Internet. I'm not sure my computer can do this anyway.

I believe NBC is showing hightlights tonight starting @ 8 p.m. EST.

I'm waiting for Joss Stone & Sir Elton. He'll probably be on last.

Lee :)

Chrislit18 07-01-2007 11:38 AM

I wish theyd tell you when specific people will be on. I only really want to see Lily Allen

ah ha. That's what I saw advertised on TV then ... 8PM tonight. I'm embarrassingly not in the mood to watch it now, so I guess I'll just tune into the highlights at 8. :o

Chrislit18 07-01-2007 11:53 AM

i know. i dont get why they had to put rap in  they should have had more of her favorite bands rather than kanye [i like some of his music, just for diana??] they should have had duran duran come back too. [i was watching them sparingly, did they even play 'hungry like the wolf'??? that was like their biggest hit! I might watch Joss Stone too. I like some of her music :)

Me either. The crowd doesnt seem into it anyways. DD played Sunrise, Wild Boys, and Rio. And IAWTC, they need to play again, if Elton does.

Livia 07-01-2007 01:10 PM

Aaack! I forgot this was on today...I turned it on during Nelly Furtado. Tom Jones is looking/sounding good! Holy crap! Why is Joe Perry playing w/ Tom Jones? LOL Cool!

gldstwmn 07-01-2007 03:45 PM

Duran Duran rocked it out. I've only watched about half the show so far but liked Lily Allen and Nelly Furtado too. The ballet was a nice touch. I think it's been a wonderful tribute to Diana. I was especially touched by the opening with Elton John and the photo montage behind him.

JazmenFlowers 07-01-2007 04:12 PM

I about died when Sarah Brightman walked out looking gorgeous as ever though I wish they had picked a different song to showcase her voice. oh well. I love Rod Stewart. why? he's just so much fun. it's like all of a sudden I'm smiling and don't even realize it.

everyone's been pretty good. I don't really get Kanye and Diddy, but ok.

Gypsy-Rhiannon 07-01-2007 04:45 PM

I loved the home videos at the very end of the concert.

Coincidentally, Diana's brother was at my kids school yesterday to open the 40th anniversary celebrations. We're only about 10 mins away from Althorp.

gypsysoul 07-01-2007 05:12 PM

I think all the acts I saw did well. But i was at the George Michael concert a few weeks ago and there was definitely a better atmosphere there than there seemed to be here. I thought this crowd was quite subdued.

Musicman408 07-01-2007 08:02 PM

Just got done watching it. Thought it was a great thing to do.

OH - - - nothing! . . . .

I just watched it "live" on NBC and enjoyed it a lot. I mostly liked Rod Stewart's and Elton John's performances. I would have liked to have seen Elton John performing "Candle in the Wind" but I think maybe that got edited for time. If that's so, I think it's a lousy job of editing.

Cheeseandrice. I missed Sarah. What did she sing?

He has the same mannerisms and class that she had! I met him at Althorp while touring the grounds in the summer of 1998 (it was the first week that it was open to the public for ticket sales) and although he didn't expect for anyone to see him and his son that day while he was home, he took several minutes to talk to each one of us and thank us on behalf of his sister for our contribution to her memorial fund.

I cried at every "Diana and Me" video clip...and ESPECIALLY at the end with her family home videos! It was some of the same reels of film they show at her exhibit at home. It was such an experience to recognize the grounds in the videos and photos of her childhood.

I only wish that Chris Deburgh (spelling?) were there to sing "Lady in Red" as it was said to be a fave of hers as well and it reminds me of her everytime...along with the song "SHE" by Elvis Costello. It makes me all teary-eyed again to think of her dancing with John Travolta that time when they first met...

He was asked to perform it again by the princes, but I understand why he chose not to do so...as he did say that he never would be able to perform it again after the funeral.

However, the buzz going around was that George Michael would duet with EJ on "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on me", but I am assuming that they were having technical difficulties with the satellite hookup that I heard they were trying to set up from GM's show in Helsinki.
Don't know how true that is...especially since some acts that were rumored to be there didn't come after all.

All I Ask of You with Josh Groban

CelticGypsy 07-01-2007 11:08 PM

It was a good show. I loved Duran Duran, Elton, Nelly Furtado looked great, I loved Roger Hodgson because I haven't heard those songs for a long, long time. Diana's sons grew up to be alot like her. She must be looking down on them and smiling:angel:

I loved those Diana and me clips. I loved it when they showed the black woman (Audrey?) who was crying when she saw her clip on the screen.

gldstwmn 07-01-2007 11:47 PM

Tivo cut off the end of Elton's set. I was hoping that George Michael would sing Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. How did Elton end his set?

tuigirl 07-02-2007 12:03 AM

It's nice to see a few other Ledgies watching this, it was quite good (although I had an overwhelming desire to want to STRANGLE the soundman who kept fiddling with the crowd clapping button!!!).Great isn't it, how all the oldies but goodies, manage to get the crowd going (well done Bryan Ferry and Rod Stewart!!) and I think P.Diddy (who I am not a fan of at all) was super, the way he mentioned Dianas name in his song alot.
I think on the whole, all of Britain, can be proud of both William and Harry for what theyv'e managed to achieve, their hearts are in the right place.( and they looked like they truly enjoyed themselves)

Beachwood Mac 07-02-2007 12:09 AM

mich, have you heard anything about being able to buy the program book from the show? My cousin is a huge fan of Diana's and is looking for one. They don't show them on the official site for the concert but maybe you have heard something closer to the action. It was a great show!

Hey there..no, sorry, I haven't heard anything about the program book ( I did see a few being waved around in the crowd though). I'm probably not the right Ledgie to ask actually..Seteca is usaully better at this sort of thing. My guess would be to keep an eye out on Ebay.Glad you too enjoyed it. There's another one next week at Wembley (which btw, looked FANTASTIC, thanks to all our taxpayers money...) It's the environmental concert with Madonna and co..I forget who else, but that sounds good too.

Thanks! Wembley did look fantastic and the crowd seemed to really enjoy the show. I remember taping the entire LiveAid concert when it originally aired and the crowd was as memorable as the show itself. I still have those tapes even though they are on beta. I'll have to get those copied to something a little less outdated so i can watch them again.

tuigirl 07-02-2007 12:30 AM

well done you Mac!!! for managing to tape ALL of Liveaid...now that was a concert marathon and a half! (and probably the absolute best)..aahhh, all those pretty 80's bands:blob2: Def worth keeping.

You don't know what a chore that was! I had to set a tape in my recorder to record the first 4 hours, then drive 15 miles to my parents house and set theirs to tape the next 4 hours, eat food out of their refrigerator, throw in some of my laundry, drive back home to replace my tape for the next 4 hours and start the cycle again. My mom thought I was out of my mind! But I did get it all recorded, ate all their food and did my laundry. :D

Ghost_Tracker 07-02-2007 02:34 AM

I think this is all great - and I enjoyed the concert (on NBC). But why all this "fuss" at this exact time? I mean, I understand that it's ten years out; but didn't she die on August 31? Why are they having the concert now?
