When I See You Again. Saddest SN song?
Such an emotional song from her fragile voice to the longing in her lyrics and then the softness of Ls guitar and voice. Wow very powerful stuff here. It is like they know ( or think so at the time) that this is their last song together.

I, for one, was shocked when Stevie recorded Goodbye Baby (AKA The Tower) for SYW. WISYA has always seemed like a throwaway to me. |
definitely not a throwaway imo. I think it is one of her saddest songs. I wish people could put away their disdain for her vocal and the production and pay attention to the lyrics and the simplicity of the song. I think it's just as good as Storms.

I love this song. Even if you don't like the vocals, for me they're still perfect, because they add to the sadness and vulnerability of the song. All the 'whatsamattababee's are sung differently and I think it reflects the different feelings in the song, and the different circumstances in which somebody can ask you if you're alright. Maybe I've given this too much thought, but I never get tired of this song. Lindsey's unscripted part at the end kills me every time.

srsly, I agree 100%. it's his vocal at the end that gets me too. Stevie, in one of her lucid, creative moments, got that one perfect. |
I think it's an okay song, but the bit with Lindsey at the end really makes it for me. It's the reason why I listen to it. I like the guitar solo as well because it's simple but fits really well.
Stevie's vocals annoy me a bit, but generally I don't mind them. It's only when I think about them that I really notice them. |
i listened to this song just yesterday....sometimes, it just seems to fit the mood. I'll admit, Stevie's vocals were a little hard to get used to at first, but I've grown to love the "whassamatta baby"-s....

i love this song, sad yes, but i love to listen to it~

I consider the saddest song of Stevie's to be a demo referred to as Ooh Baby. Her voice is incredibly sad in it. It almost seems to be crying when she is singing.

(Sorry to be so clueless, but I got into this FM stuff last November. And if no one wants to take the time to explain it to my sorry ass I completely understand. ) |

This is the only song Stevie did with the mac that I don't like. |
It's the only Stevie song on Tango in the Night that I like. Actually I love it. The vulnerability of her vocal, the sadness of the lyrics and LB's voice distant and questioning at the end absolutely make the song.
Although I do love Storms I've always thought it was a little contrived. This sounds from the heart. |
Thanks Vanessa for posting it.
I have Tango on vinyl (thank you to some long lost Ebay seller around Christmas time) but haven't listened to it yet. This weekend when it is hotter than a pizza oven here in Denver, I will go to the basement and dig out the turntable, which is buried somewhere under the stairs... Till then, I will enjoy the computer version you have so graciously shared with me! :D Thanks Vanessa and WildHeart for your kindess is responding to me. |
Thanks for posting that Vanessa! I didn't have that one :)
Actually WISYA is one of the only songs from Tango I didn't bother to purchase from iTunes [just when I got into FM]....I didnt get FM, WTTR...S, or WISYA. I'm Kindof warming up to WTTR...S, and FM is starting to be alright [youtube video...], but WISYA is not worth the dollar to me from what I can make out of the song. I might limewire it  It does sound sad, like the lyrics do [nicksfix/buckinhgamnicks.net], and her voice on the 30 second sample sound very child like, vaunerable. Ill have to check it out  |
When I see you again....
When I See You Again is my fav FM song....It summarizes Stevie and Lindsey's relationship completely.
Remember she wrote this as she was going away to Betty Ford (the first time) for her coke addiction... I think she was frightened to death !!!! About her voice, her future , without drugs and cigaretts, her writing influences, you can feel very creative when you are high, and she was going away to give that up...What would happen to her? ...And mostly.. her Lindsey.... I think it's soul bearing, raw, incredible vunerable, frightened ,honest and just heart wrenching lyrics that she was completely feeling, when she wrote it. More than any other song she has written. And her vocals were not great at that time, she was checking into Betty for a reason... and that is why she sounds so bad. I mean think about if it were you. You have been with the same man since you were 17, for good or bad- He has ALWAYS been there with her. And he keeps saying "What's a matta baby? over and over-cuz he knows she is not his Stevie!, not in this state. She sings the lyric, but I think it is his question. So, Now, she is leaving, and what if it's not the same when she comes back?, will he still love her? will he still be her best friend? whether they are fighting or laughing, or whatever...at this point I think she still consideres him her best friend--------- Or will she have been replaced by another? Hard lyrics to write, forget about sing without having emotion in your voice! I also love the ending when Lindsey sings back to her while he is playing the accoustic guitar...It is so fitting- It is where they started and now they may be parting... She says..."When I see you again, will it be the same?" He says..."IF I see you again, will it be the same?" Two very different questions. This has always been my favorite soing to discuss (besides Frozen Love) In reality I think it is only the 2nd song they sing lyrics back and forth to each other....I could talk about this song all day...I love the intensity Anyone else? ~~eclipse~ |
I like WISYA. But then again, I do all Stevie songs, but this song is nice and very sad.
It was recorded before she checked into rehab right? |
WISYA is so tender and sad, it's brilliantly understated on the album, I think.
And for me as well, it's Lindsey's part at the end that really gets me!! It's the lyric change from "When I see you" to "If I see you" that's so tragic. I wonder whose idea that was, Stevie's or Lindsey's? I think this alternate mix is better than the album version, though; the way the voices blend at the end and kind of answer each other just fits the whole thing better and brings out that sadness, in my opinion. http://www.yousendit.com/download/bW...SWg4aU0wTVE9PQ |

but it does not have the intensity or emotion that "When I See You Again "has.. and always wlll.... |
The saddest thing about When I See You Again is that it made it onto Tango in the Night

I think with out all those "babies" - the song is better. And, it contains beautiful guitar work by LB.

this is one of my favorite songs.

Actually, Mirage is the last album of the Rumours line up that I really love. Apart from the bad sound quality on the CD version (the vinyl version is much better) it's a fantastic album, let down only by "Oh Diane". It's worth it just for Stevie's songs. I think in terms of her Fleetwood Mac material, Tusk and Mirage were her best moments with the band. WISYA...no! I think I've played it...twice..and I don't like it. I never liked it. It's the only song that Stevie did with the mac that I don't like. |

Listen grasshopper...there is much to learn from the Stevie/Lindsey :( edge |

ITA. And you reminded me that I haven't listened to this song in awhile - something must be a matter with me! |
Love the song..cannot get past the ravished vocal.
You have to remember - that was the first FM Album in YEARS and to hear her sing in that voice was shocking to say the least! |
Love WISYA, it moves me and I never tire of it. It is melancholy, but in a bittersweet way.
