Bone Thugs

Ok, am I totally out of the loop here??? My roommate just played the new Bone Thugs-N-Harmony album. They've done a song w/ The Chain. It's not just a sample of the Chain, they have totally layered a hip hop/rap song over The Chain and it gave me chills. They call it "Wind Blows". Does everyone already know about this?

I didn't even know they were still making albums, lol.

Thanks for posting. It's fully non weak, I really like it. When listening to the lyrics, I'm suprised they used Chain, and so much of it - it doesn't seem to relate. But who cares? They used Chain, and the song sounds really good. Rappers and Mac - 2grttststhttstgrt2gthr. Bone Mac n' Harmony.

The Chain 05-19-2007 02:53 PM

I personally think it's awsome. As a huge fan of the mac and bone thugs, I personally never thought the two worlds would ever collide - or if it would even work. But it's got an awsome flow and I think it's just another great showcase of what the mac can do, and their ability to harmonize.

desertangel 05-20-2007 02:43 AM

I liked it and the other songs enough to buy the CD today... 's-ok... makes up for the severe lack in Linkin Park's new CD, which I did NOT buy.

I heard it a couple weeks ago and liked it instantly. and at least it will bring FMac into another genre and tons of people that would've never heard them.

Livia 05-20-2007 03:06 PM

I love it!

DavidMn 05-20-2007 05:14 PM

I cant believe this!!  The world is coming to an end. Who the F**K do these people that call themselves "Artists" think they are by taking dog**** music like Hip Hop and trying to mix it with a great song like the Chain? UNBELIEVEABLE!!!

shackin'up 05-20-2007 05:38 PM

It's a very dumb combination, that never really fits during the song, but still I like it a lot:confused:

The only thing that irritates the sh*t out of me is rapping over the coolest bassline ever. They should've left it open there....And that guitarending isn't lindsey's....or is it?

Whoa...stand back, stand back. I think they've creatively merged two genres of music. I don't generally like rap, but this is such a unique collaboration...it really does give me chills.

To be fair, its just my own opinion. If some one else likes it, fine.

desertangel 05-20-2007 06:28 PM

The liner notes credit use of the song sample as written by Lindsey Buckingham, Michael Fleetwood, Annie McVie, John McVie and Stephanie Nicks. I don't know much about credits for use of song samples, but I assume obviously at least this one uses the registered names.

Fair enough. But it's my opinion that the world's not going to end. :wavey:

Livia 05-20-2007 07:10 PM

I just bought the ringtone - thanks for posting that link.

David, even though you don't care for it - consider that it's still a huge compliment to FM that a hip-hop artist even wanted to sample anything from their catalog.

mikeschmike 05-20-2007 07:43 PM

I'm really not a fan of Bone Thugs, but I like this! It's probably my favorite BTH song, seeing as the other ones are mostly crap!

I completely agree :distress: I just dont understand how people really think that rap is a form of music {JMO}, I dont hate rappers, and I dont disrespect them, just the themes of the music, plus its not easy to sing to

also, you just dont ruin a great song like 'The Chain'..EVER....
or any Fleetwood Mac {lets include beatles in this too} for that matter...

foxyluva 05-21-2007 04:42 PM

I love this. It doesn't really seem to fit the song, but I like the Bone Thugs, so I like this...

TrueFaith77 05-21-2007 07:47 PM

The harmonizers of hiphop should pay the debt to the great harmonizers of rock 'n roll. The sampled song layers metaphor, like links in a chain:

slavery -> perseverence -> the blues -> social discord (usually expressed as the "mystery to me" of female sexuality) -> special sensitivity -> music (as symbolized by "harmonizing") -> the chain that holds both the mac and btnh together

Furthermore, the mac represent the last era (from the Mac to MJ) where pop artists strove to unify a large "mass" audience while recognizing and bearing the burdens of the age.

That's a profound legacy to which Bone Thugs pay homage, while likening their own misfortunes (two fallen band members) to contemporary lack of fraternal feeling. Say you will, indeed. . .

I thought I would hate this...but oddly I didn't. I rather enjoyed it!

GateandGarden 05-21-2007 08:27 PM

I had to check it out after I read all the comments here...but I just can't get into it. It feels like it doesn't work. It seems like a cool idea, but I really think the original is worlds better. "The Chain" is one of those few songs that I still view as a masterpiece even though I'm not quite the avid FM fan I used to be. Maybe I'm just too biased.

i think it's one of those things you just can't compare to the original. i don't think they were trying to remake it or anything, they were just doing their thing with it. i wonder what the members of FM would think of it.

Stevie has it on her i-pod. It reminds her of Lindsey.

I bet Lindz would probably like it. he likes when people do 'different' stuff
but i dont know about the other four. they seem more...conservative if you will about the way they make music[listen to a Stevie or Chris album...and tell me if you didnt know better you might think you were listening to FM  ]

I mean...its just rap to me, so I wouldn't like it [and I am of the 'rap/emo' generartion ], I've never gotten into it. I don't think I ever will, but I do give them props I guess for trying...
