Big Yellow Taxi

I read where LB did a cover of this song and only the first 25 seconds exist.
At the Boulder concert, a guy told me that the whole songs exists.

Does anyone know? or have it in .mp3 or .wav format?

(Thanks and I apologise if this has already been discussed.)

I have no idea if it's been discussed, but odds are it has.

But here ya go (and anyone else that wants to grab it)

It was a blast finally hearing this late last year... Here's the thread it was discussed in: http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showth...ht=yellow+taxi

Michelle Daya 05-05-2007 06:07 PM

thank you richard!!!!!!!!!!!!

i tried to look up the lyrics but could only find joni's & counting crows. when she says "and a big yellow taxi took away my old man" it sounds like he's saying "took away my old band." more fm regrets? or maybe bn?

this was cool! :]

Betsy 05-05-2007 06:56 PM

Thank you Richard B. for the song  and MacMan for the original thread.

I thought it was just an "urban legend" and it is great to know that it exists! (It is even greater that I get to listen to it whenever I want! ) :D

(Also, thanks for not yelling at me for asking something that has already been discussed.)

You Ledgies are really nice people - and have made a fat-assed housewife from Denver - VERY happy! :] :]

Thanks!

WelshWitchPMD 05-05-2007 09:29 PM

Thanks Betsy for bringing this up and thank you Richard B for re-posting it. I had this song on my PC but it is now dead and I never put the song on a CD. I know, stupid! Now, I have it on my notebook and I am going to put it on to a CD!:)

You're so welcome (and everyone else)!

And yes, he does say "took away my old band." I'm thinking Fritz.

I'm thinking he said band because "woman" doesn't fit, "girl" would sound stupid, and "man" would sound kind of gay considering that he's hetero.

While were on this topic has lindsey done any other cover versions that havent been released. I liked the brief Louie Louie by the Kinks that he did on the Radio. Apart from Big yellow taxi and those few stones songs he did, are there any more

strandinthewind 05-07-2007 08:52 AM

I think this take on BYT is good.

Also, and not to start WWIII - is that La Nicks doing some of those oooooooo's and ahhhhhh's?

I don't doubt the Kinks recorded "Louie, Louie" , just about everybody has at some point, but the DEFINITIVE version is the original by The Kingsmen.

Sorry, just the "Rock Snob" in me coming out.

good call. that is the definitive version. my favorite. but not the original.

richard berry wrote it and did it first, then another band - can't remember their name, somebody & the wailers (obviously not bob marley). ... i think another group released a version, and then the kingsmen and paul revere and the raiders recorded it again in 63 almost simultaneously, but the kingsmen version won out on the chart. i recall seeing a kinks version of louie louie on a discography for a various artists compilation, but i've never heard it (to my knowledge).

the kingsmen version was released on 2 different labels.. one was a regional, pacific northwest label, "jerden". that particular 45 goes for big time bucks if you're lucky enough to find it.. ultra mega rare.

There's the infamous Here Comes The Sun he did for that ABC New Year's Eve show.

Yeah, you got me...I mistyped when I put "original" with the Kingsmen. Actually, not "...& the wailers"...the original recording was by The Pharoahs (1957) in which Richard Berry was a member.

Right on the Pharoahs, but there is another band between Pharaohs & Kingsmen.

After some googling, my memory has been jogged. Rockin' Robin Roberts & The Wailers. Whoever that may be.

No. Rockin' Robin Roberts & The Wailers. I just remembered the "& the wailers" from an audiophile friend's collection.. we were going through 45s of the song one day after discussing songs that had been recorded time and time again. I just couldn't remember the "Rockin' Robin Roberts" part. For good reason.. could there be a more cheesie, generic late 50's stage name?

From what I can tell by research in the last 3 minutes, Rockin' Robin had been with another group, the Bluenotes, before leaving to record with the Wailers... their version of Louie Louie came from those sessions. It says they did enjoy some regional success though, so, who knows.

i liked it okay.it's one of those songs that it doesn't really matter who covers it or how they do it, it just can't live up to the standard set by the original.

imo, the vocal is the "worst" part about it; his voice just isn't as "on" as it maybe could have been, and at points, the timing seems odd compared to the steadiness of the guitar. i rather like the guitar arrangement... it's a buckingham-styled tribute instead of a straight up copy.

I love it to death. But I can't talk about it. When I did before hell broke loose...so...I just stop by saying "no, you're not alone..."

He did Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long" during the Mirage sessions.

And, let's not forget that "To Try For The Sun" from Under The Skin is a cover of Donovan's song.

Lindsey does some pretty decent covers, just keep him the hell away from the Beatles catalogue and no one will get hurt.

Sugar 05-08-2007 03:02 PM

...and wasn't All My Sorrows off OOTC a Kingston Trio song?

I remember him saying that.. and also adding that he believed it was from an old slave song. If I remember right (and it's not in front of me) there aren't any writer credits for it in the OOTC liners.

Peestie 05-09-2007 03:18 PM

Does anyone happen to have a good quality mp3 of HCTS? I'd like to get a copy of it, if anyone has it and is willing to share, please.

"Good quality" arrangement or performance? Never happened. ;)

I'd rather have a .wav than an mp3, but I just figured that was the format people were most likely to have.

I quite like LB's version but I can't think of it as HCTS, it's too different. I just take it as a different song.

I didn't care for it either, and I just played it again to make sure I wasn't having a bad day the first time I heard it, but for me, George Harrison's version, or, I mean THE BEATLES' version would be hard to top. Maybe if he had the entire band playing. I don't know...

By the way RichardB, "Moby" is too cute!
