After seeing Lindsey Live, will you see Stevie???
I've seen Lindsey a few times over the last few months. He's been so great in concert that i'm having a really hard time trying to convince myself to see Stevie on her tour. I just think she'll be so boring after him. He really gives a great show. AFter reading a few threads saying that she really isn't into writing any new stuff, will she really be into giving everyone a good show? It seems to me that Lindsey is almost starting a new career going solo and she is on the tail end of hers. In fact, i haven't even gone out and purchased the new 'best of' collection yet. it's just the same old stuff with her. i'm bored with Stevie now. Is there anyone who can convince me to go see her on her upcoming tour?
|
I wish I could help you be re-inspired by stevie but what you just said basically fits my mood as well. This is only my opinion but Stevie can't possibly be as dynamic as the show Lindsey puts out. Please don't attack me on that.
|
I've been completely uninterested in Stevie's solo career for quite some time now. I was super excited when TISL was coming out, then I got the record and was totally disappointed. Sorry to say it. Ever since then.. no thanks. I like her with FM, but even that is getting tired.
|
I really like Stevie and would be interested in seeing her in concert sometime for sure. I saw her with Tom Petty, but she really wasn't the attraction for me then. Unfortunately, as long as Lindsey is touring at the same time as Stevie, I'm apt to choose him in a heartbeat because he is just effing INCREDIBLE in concert and I absolutely love everything about him at the moment- even the snooty interview comments have my heart. I think he's untouchable and I believe his shows in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh were the best concerts I have ever seen by anyone. Bar none. I love Lindsey. :xoxo:
|
Well, they are two different people, with two different views on their artistry, and fans who love them both have a little reconciling to do. You kind of have to balance what you love most about Stevie and/or Lindsey and what your personal expectations are when you go to their concerts. I wouldn't necessarily go in comparing them to each other, though, because that's always a losing battle.
Right now, Lindsey is putting on such fabulous, original and dynamic shows that the thought of seeing Stevie do the same set list again is not looking too tempting. I will point out, though, that this Ledge--up until SYW, I guess, was very frustrated with Lindsey. There was no new stuff...just a lot of behind the scenes talk about something being so many percent done and rumours of release dates for Gift of Screws, etc. During that period of time, Stevie came out with the box set and toured for it...then TISL...and toured behind that...and even after SYW, she toured again with Don Henley...so, she's been getting out there and, in a sense, we are "spoiled" because of it. And I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Again, it's a decision you have to make yourself. I know that when she was doing the Gold Dust tour--post-Henley, I went to the two shows at the Borgata and I knew what the set list was. There are a whole handful of songs on there that I kind of sick of, and another couple I downright hate...but as I was walking into the place, I was still feeling thrilled over the prospect of seeing her because there is something about seeing her live that just brings out the reason why you loved her in the first place. And she thoroughly has the power to take an old, "tired" song that you think you will despise and inject some new meaning into it. That's just part of her magic as a performer. I still have difficulties with the prospect of hearing my 9000th version of Landslide and Stop Dragging--YUCK. I truly wish whatever issues/misconceptions she has about doing new material (or, at least, pulling out some of her own, older stuff that hasn't been done live before) could be pushed aside so she could take the chances Lindsey is taking. But, even as it stands now, I know full well that I'll walk into the venue excited and walk out happy because during the evening she will do something that will restore my faith. Will they be like Lindsey's shows? Not a chance. But I don't expect them to be. I'm just going to get my dose of Stevie. |
I saw Lindsey in Austin, and I have never seen Stevie or FM. So I think I may go see Stevie in Houston just because I've never seen her before, but I'm not expecting much. If I'd already seen her, maybe I'd feel differently.
|
I have had the pleasure of seeing Lindsey and will again. I do plan on seeing Stevie with Chris. I do enjoy both of their shows and those of FM. If Lindsey and Stevie performed the same night at seperate venues, I would see Lindsey's show. If Lindsey and Stevie could be in two places at one time and then given the choice of three shows, I would see FM. Hmmm...in reading that last statement, I am half-tempted to insert < Lindsey > :o
I am of no help. ;) |
I have seen Lindsey four times since he started touring for Under The Skin. Each of the four times I walked out of the venue totally satisfied. Knowing much of the show is just Lindsey and his guitar doesn't exactly excite me when it comes to a concert, but somehow the Under The Skin songs translate fabulously live....and I love the album! If I can talk my friend into it, I will be going to see him a fifth time in June. This is my first time seeing him solo as I didn't get to see him on the Out Of The Cradle tour. I really thought I'd only get to see him ONCE this time around, but things have worked out well for me to see him FOUR times. I feel so fortunate. I have taken two different friends to see Lindsey and both of them thought he was incredible.
I will be going to see Stevie at The Greek Theatre next month with the same friend who I took to see Lindsey solo. She has seen Fleetwood Mac with me a couple of times, and Lindsey. Now it will be interesting to see what she thinks of Stevie as a solo performer. I haven't seen Stevie live since, I think, 1989. I did buy Crystal Visions and was listening to it today at work. Man, I just got lost in the music while I was working (hey, it beats listening to nearby co workers yak all day long!). Then, I put the DVD in when I got home and it's like I fall in love with her all over again. :xoxo: I do understand what people are saying here, though. I was a little disappointed in Trouble In Shangri La. Musically, twenty years ago, I would have taken Stevie over Lindsey in a heartbeat (even though I loved him back then too), but nowadays, I think it's the opposite. I almost feel bad about feeling this way, because I have always thought of Stevie Nicks as one of my all time favorites. And she is. So, it will be interesting to see how I like her concert. I am looking forward to seeing her, that's for sure, but I think I do find Lindsey much more interesting musically. |
No. I've been able to go to more shows for less money, plus, like people have already said, he's very entertaining!
|
Hells yeah- lindsey is ok, but Stevie rocks :blob2:

So of course it's going to seem like he's taking more chances, since it's all still so fresh and "new." This is going to be a really goofy comparison, but I was watching a Simpsons episode the other day, and Lisa said that "Itchy And Scratchy" was "still a great show, but after so many years the characters just lose their impact." I think Stevie still puts on a great show, but maybe she, too, has lost some of her impact. Or at least certain songs have, because fans are so familiar with them now. |
Damnit, the only member of the band I'm jonesing to see right now is John McVie.

I guess you don't pay attention enough to what he's doing and HOW he does it dude, because that remark can only be read one way: you ARE belittling what he's currently doing. |

I can't help you out here DJM, since I still had a craving to see Stevie after I saw Lindsey last October, but I guess that's mainly because I had never seen Stevie solo before. And she still made an impact on me. |

You know, I thought about that even though it takes no thought...yes I'll see Stevie. You can rush the stage on those shows too. She rocks out as much as she can and it's fun. Plus the fans of her are way more interesting to watch LOL. Lindsey fans are pretty muted ( except for the one token " PLAY SOUL DRIFTER" guy)
Nah, I will definitely see her. It's a different thing altogether but she knows how to put a show on as well. I will always love both of them the same. |
I enjoy them both for various reasons....they both bring different things to the table so to speak. I didn't see Stevie when she toured with Henley so I want to go this year. I have seen LB three times on the Under the skin tour and he is incredible. He has always been my favorite and I would choose his show over hers in a heartbeat. From a nostalgic point of view Stevie does lure me back in when I hear her music so I am looking forward to her show. My friend Jodi is going with me and she has never seen Stevie in concert so I think I enjoy shows even more when I introduce someone to new things!
|
I have no desire to see Lindsey. I could have went to about 5 or more shows and I chose not to. I would only see him with FM. I never really liked his solo career but UTS is really good...and I think Stevie puts on a better show... Borgata 2 yeas ago:blob1: :woohoo: I'm hoping she can top it this year
|
I would travel great distances to see Lindsey. I would see Stevie if she was playing in my town and I got free tickets.
I like Stevie, I enjoy hearing the random song on my iPod, but I just couldn't do 2 hours or whatever of her. That being said, there aren't a whole lot of female singers I'm truly crazy about...Cyndi Lauper does a great show...I think Sheryl Crow would rock...that's all I can think of at the moment. But hey, that's just me. And my 2¢. |
They are both different artists. I do understand people identify with one more than another...admittedly, that's Lindsey for me. I love Stevie and I've got tickets to her show in Dallas. I've seen her live a few times solo and with the Mac. I'm really looking forward to it but it has been a HUGE dream of mine to see Lindsey solo. I think he's an amazing performer and I love that he enjoys interacting with his audiences. :woohoo: I wasn't able to in '93 and now I am lapping up every bit of him that can...live and raw!! So, for me, it's just the situation that presents itself...they are both going to be on the road at the same time this summer...Lindsey will get my full attention this year and next because he doesn't do this very often and who the hell knows when he'll resurface!

On the other hand, I saw Lindsey just once on this tour and was quite satisfied with that one time. I enjoyed myself and he totally rocked, but I just don't feel the same connection to him and his music as I do to Stevie. In fact, Lindsey was performing less than an hour from my house last month and I chose to fly across the country to Vegas to see Stevie that same night instead. I do suggest that you watch the CV DVD before you make your decision though. If there ever was a time that you appreciated and loved Stevie for her pure Stevieness, the DVD will remind you. Her video commentaries are hilarious, the videos show her in all of her fabulous 80s glory, and it's hard not to appreciate the inside glimpse into the making of Bella Donna. If that reinvigorates you, then go see a Stevie show and see what you think. If you can't even bring yourself to watch the the DVD, then save your money for Lindsey and don't worry about it. |

Both Stevie and Lindsey do things that annoy the crap out me. Sure, Lindsey's sets are refreshing. I could do without "Big Love," but it's nice hearing "Save Me A Place" and "Trouble" which aren't as stale as, say, "Dreams" or "Gold Dust Woman."
But, for the love of God, could he PLEASE cut out the psychobabble??? I've never heard somebody psychoanalyze so many details of his life in such a short period of time. Sure, Stevie can seem a bit dingy, but she doesn't talk much during her shows. The other thing is Stevie's sets are longer. Lindsey only played for about an hour or so. Not really that long for $35. Sheesh, for that kind of money, I could see Bob Pollard drink himself under the table and still play a great set, all the while dodging flying cans of Fosters. |

I didn't say anything about his enthusiasm or the way in which he's playing. |
Two little things I want to comment on...
Steve--Lindsey does a 19 song set list running a little over an hour and a half. That's not a short set list to me. And $35-$55 a ticket is not expensive (again--to me) considering what I've paid for both Stevie solo and the Mac (willingly, and I would and will do it again) but I've found the prices of Lindsey's concerts to be a refreshing change and my pocketbook absolutely appreciates it). Second, Johnny--the entirety of my original post wasn't that different than what you were saying. I said both performers were different. I did absolutely acknowledge that the possible reason we were a little disgruntled with Stevie's set list is because we've had an abundance of Stevie's live performances over the last 10 years and we've become spoiled. You know I'm the last person to diss either Stevie or Lindsey. I've always said as equally as you can love two performers, I love Stevie and Lindsey--for two entirely different reasons. Do I think Lindsey is more out there (set list choices) and experimental? Yes. And I absolutely think that Stevie has a whole bunch of reasons why she feels she has to perform some of the fan favorites over and over again. And part of that reason (IMO) is a need to cater to the more casual fan. That's her choice and I respect and accept it, but I don't think it's entirely unreasonable that the more rabid fan might be wanting a bit more at times, when they know she probably has a whole bunch of stuff we've never heard...and a whole bunch of recorded stuff she hasn't performed in years or ever--live. Especially since we've seen her drag some of that stuff out in dribs and drabs and it's been awesome. |
I think that has more to do with LB's solo stage appearances being twice - OOTC and now. So, there has been no time to get tired of him. If he toured every year or every
Personally, I think La Nicks should ax all FM songs from her solo set and do only her solo work. That would make, to me, her solo set fresh. But, she and LB will never do that because their hits and set staples are mostly with FM. |

If my overall tone was a little defensive, that wasn't directed at you either... I was trying to forestall any doubts about the intention behind my comments. I absolutely agree that it would be awesome for Stevie to shake things up a bit, and I also agree that Stevie should... if she wanted to, of course... feel that she can put some more obscure tunes in her setlist and people wouldn't be turned off and walk out of the show. Some of the songs most diehards say they're totally burned out on though... "Dreams," "Landslide," "Rhiannon," "Stand Back"... are songs that I don't think will EVER be dropped, no matter what else she might add or change in the setlist. But a lot of the other songs could be rotated in and out. (By the way, it's awesome seeing you posting here again more and more. Don't be a stranger, ok? :xoxo: ) |

She dropped Landslide for the TISL tour, which shocked the shiitte outta me.

How could I stay away with all that smooching going on??? I pop in every once in a while...mostly lurk but I pipe in sometimes. We do have an absolute embarrassment of riches right now with both of them and I'm really grateful for that (my piddly bank account is not so thrilled, though). And I also know that Stevie can inject new life into older songs like no one else (although I still wish she'd dump Stop Dragging My Heart Around--think she'd do that, for ME???) |
Hi all. To me, I will always be exstatic to see either Stevie or Lindsey play live. In 2007, if both were playing at different venues within driving distance from me, on the same night, I would choose to see Lindsey's show. Not because I deem myself a bigger fan, nor is my reasoning solely based on the ticket price, I have not seen LB live enough times yet. I have gone to 4 shows so far during the UTS tour, and am going to my fifth this upcoming Monday. I have been lucky enough to be able to go to at least one show on each Stevie solo tour since 1998. I have flown to Vegas on two separate occasions to see her live solo. I love her performances, even when the set list is old. I believe Stevie is the better performer, yet I feel that Lindsey allows his shows to be more intimate and more interactive with his audience. I love that about his shows.
If you are a Stevie fan, I would strongly suggest picking up the CV CD/DVD combo. The commentary and home footage makes this package fresh to me. |
If LB plays OKC I will, more than likely, attend that show - but thus far he hasnt...."So there ya go"

She could but she never will. I try to be realistic with my set expectations for both Stevie and Lindsey and that list above is very unrealistic, IMHO. LWTG? RoF? ICW? TTM? Nightbird???? While I would love to hear any of these live, it is just never, ever going to happen. I give Lindsey alot of props for trying new songs. Someone screams out Bwana and he does it. He does have a few FM staples in his set but he is much more willing to change it up and do something obscure. I have a ton of respect for that. |

i'd much prefer to pay to see lindsey. i feel as though with his shows, at least there's a chance he may be spontaneous. lindsey delivers. hands down. i feel like i pay to see a show and i get every pennies worth. he's just amazing. not to take away from stevie but the shows i've seen in the past few years have been far less memorable than the three lindsey shows i've seen as of late. jmo.

Random thoughts-
Is Stevie really worth the money? You can see two Lindsey shows for every one Stevie show, not to mention, he's certainly hit more areas of the country in this tour than she has in her last cluster of shows (Tom, Don, Goldust). Is Lindsey really "fresh" now? Roughly the same setlist, give or take "Turn it On", "Shut Us Down" and "Bleed to Love Her" (as well as the shocking appearance of Bwana)... I've seen him 4 times, plus a radio show... He cocks his head to the same side each night as he delivers the corresponding line, jumps at the same time, and delivers the Go Your Own Way solo in the exact same pattern (smart people know where to stand to play the guitar the most)... Atmosphere... lets just say, there's less twirling in the audience at a LB show, and that's a good thing... I give the (L)edge to Lindsey... but for that last leg, he better shake up the setlist, or a Fleetwood Mac tour can't come soon enough. *Monday Morning (dust it off, its been years, retire SHN until Mac 08) *Oh Well... i know its PG, but LB ROCKS this song live... gets the audience going. *COME in for I'm So Afraid???? *I Am Waiting/Try for the Sun -replace UTS? RR? *Countdown? Soul Drifter? Wrong? This is the Time? Drop NGBA? I know we all love NGBA, but its Lindsey's Landslide. -I'd even take My Little Demon, as that will never see the light of day again, with the rest of The Dance tracks (save Bleed to Love Her). I still wholeheartedly endorse the keeping of GYOW... as David Spade said, "its like going to a Laura Brannigan show and her not doing Gloria" (rip Laura Brannigan). But just swapping in 4 or so songs. Even the Mac changes it up slightly between legs (ala Sara/Gypsy, Whats the World Coming To/Red Rover, etc). My parents tell me of the good ol' days where setlists could be spontaneous...? Aren't there bands out there like Phish or Ben Folds or Dave Matthews that "TAKE THESE CHANCES" on a nightly basis with switching some stuff up? Keep those bands tight, keep em guessing. Even Bruce (perhaps not his last tour) Springsteen keeps the setlist changing... as CRAZY as we paint Lindsey to be... And having said all of that about LB, we still rank SN WAY behind him in taking chances... can the poor lady cross the street without the WALK sign? |

Hi everybody! I feel as if I've been away from The Ledge for so long now.....I've been off planning a wedding.....and unfortunately dealing with my mother's death.....can't find time to even think anymore.....I can't believe how the time has just flown by.....how I've missed everyone!!! Anyway, removing FM songs from solo setlists.....This will never happen. I am making plans to see Stevie in (of all places) Youngstown (I thought I was seeing things....that's almost my backyard for cripe sake, not many great artists play in Youngstown....thank goodness for the Chevy Center after all!!!). A friend that will be going with me just said to me last night "Do you think she'll do many Fleetwood Mac songs?? I really like those! I hope she does!!!" Unfortunately, while us super-mega-fans have long lists of solo songs of Lindsey's & Stevie's that we would love to hear at their respective solo shows, I think the vast majority of people attending their shows feel just like my friend does. "Hey, there's a member of Fleetwood Mac playing solo, I hope I hear those popular Fleetwood Mac songs that I've loved for years!!" I too feel that solo shows should be reserved for solo songs.....that's why the Mac plays shows too, to do Mac songs....but it's just not gonna happen, Lindsey & Stevie are going the popular route with their sets. And I say WHY CHOOSE BETWEEN LINDSEY & STEVIE!!?? Enjoy them both! I love them for different reasons, and am mesmorized by both for different reasons. I do think that Stevie's songs connect with me more though. However, I purchased Under The Skin and have been listening to it, and wish that I could have caught Lindsey's show when he was nearby. I've gotta say though, the Crystal Visions CD/DVD (especially the DVD portion of the combo) rejuvenated my love for Stevie. Her commentaries on those videos of hers just cracked me up....and watching her, in front of a mic, pouring her heart out laying down her vocals, listening to those words....wow, just reminded me why I love her so much. So, get it, listen & watch, and if your love isn't renewed (which I think it will be!!), then wait for Linds to come around again........ Stephanie |
