Favorite Pre-Rumours Album???
So, we all know that Fm had a great run before the Rumours line-up, so my question is what your all's fave Pre-Rumours album is.
Feel free to discuss. I believe mine is Mystery To Me. First Pre R. one that I heard, and have been in love with it ever since. Much Love, Ethan |
poll incomplete
Dear Folks,
I do not know if you are aware of it but there are other albums inbetween PGs Fleetwood Mac (dog and dustbin) and Then Play On my real favorite is Mr Wonderful, but there is Fleetwood Mac in Chicago (a very close second) English Rose which is really half Mr Wonderful, half singles that were not on Mr Wonderful. This does not include The biggest thing since Colosus which is minus Mic Fleetwood and Plus Otis Spann and his drummer. People should be able to vote on those too. doodyhead |
Oh, it's really a toss-up.
I'll use my standard line regarding ALL Fleetwood Mac albums: "My favorite Fleetwood Mac album is the one I'm listening to at any particular moment". That said, from their inception to 1974, I keep going back to either English Rose or Mystery To Me the most. With Heroes Are Hard To Find & Then Play On close seconds. And, I just realized, I DO play Future Games an awful lot...especially on Sunday mornings. It's a great "lazy wake up" album. |
Mystery To Me is my favorite Fleetwood Mac album. As far as the other pre-Rumours albums, these are my favorites, in order:
1. Mystery To Me 2. Heroes Are Hard To Find 3. Bare Trees 4. Future Games |

and the uk-issued 'fleetwood mac's greatest hits' which includes uk singles up to 'dragon fly'. only pre 1974 record with man of the world, oh well (not originally on uk 'then play on') and the green manalishi... adhering to poll rules: original uk 'then play on' following to vinnie c.'s rules: 'fleetwood mac in chicago' zero's rules: uk 'fleetwood mac's greatest hits' z. |

This is such a difficult question...but here are my top five:
Kiln House (most favorite) Future Games Then Play On Fleetwood Mac in Chicago Mystery To Me |
This is tough because I like MTM and Heroes about the same. I ended up picking Heroes but MTM is very close. Bare Trees would come afterwards.
|
After Then Play On, with Pete leaving, I was quite surprised that Kiln House blew me away as well. This band is bigger than it's stars. It's just a recipient
of incredible Mojo:cool: Of course we all knew that anyway;) I voted for Kiln House:] |

Bare Trees. Its actually my second favourite Mac album, after Tusk...

I went with M2M by default. I only have a few P-R albums, and this one is my fav out of those.

I vote for Mystery to Me. It is my favorite Fleetwood Mac album of all time, Rumours-lineup albums included. The five Bob Welch era albums are my favorites of the entire history of the band. Bare Trees is currently running a close second; I have really been digging Danny Kirwan's songs lately.
|
Heroes is my fav album out of all the FM albums
|
I'd have to say Mystery to Me, and then Bare Trees and Pious Bird of Good Omen are tied for second.
|
Only ones I've heard are Peter Green's FM, Then Play On, and Bare Trees. Out of those, I like PG's FM the best. TPO is okay, a bit too loud for my taste - I like Rattlesnake Shake a lot, though. Bare Trees is more or less unlistenable to me, and I can't see myself getting anymore albums from the Bob Welch period. Kiln House is a possibility at some point, though, as are the other Peter Green-era albums.

I'm not quite sure why I remember Then Play On being "too loud." I think I like it the best out of the three "Pre-BN" albums that I have. I don't love every song, but a lot of them are very, very good. They were moving away from being sort of a blues copy-cat group, and it was a good move. It also seems like Mick & John's playing is way more up front on these earlier albums than in the BN era. Especially after Rumours (and probably after the FM album), it's almost like they're not even there. Quote:

I'm glad we got you to pull the albums back out, Mark! :) :) :)
I think you'll find that Bob is usually better than "Sentimental Lady." Definitely give his MTM stuff a shot. I adore all of his songs on that album, save for "The City," maybe, which I'm lukewarm about. I'm not a fan of "Sentimental Lady," at this point either, so I hear ya about that one. |

btw-I love all of those pictures in your sig :) |
You know, it's so damn hard to say which one to get first because those 1970-74 albums are generally VERY good and are vastly different from one another. The difference between Kiln House and Future Games, for example, is enormous, which is understandable, given the lineup changes. But the difference between Bare Trees and Future Games is almost equally dramatic---and it's the same lineup. I love every album from that period. Fork over a few bucks, Markolas, and buy 'em all! LOL.

At least, as of the moment, my fave pre-75 FMac album is one that isn't listed:
English Rose |

I've lately been on a Bare Trees fix. Love Sentimental Lady:nod:

i voted for peter green´s fleetwood mac
as peter green period is closest to my heart the list doesn´t actually have my favourite,mr.wonderful on it of the mid period mac albums bare trees is my fave i recently bought mystery to me and atleast for now it doesn´t impress me that much.it´s inferior to bare trees and future games. |

If you like Bare Trees & Future Games, I would imagine Mystery To Me will grow on you if you give it a chance. ;) :) The Peter Green era is close to my heart, too, but saying MTM is "inferior" to ANY Fleetwood Mac album makes me bristle to my core.  I just wish there were more live recordings available from the MTM era, so far, there's only the two songs they did on the Midnight Special TV show ("Believe Me" & "Miles Away") and the one live track ("Black Magic Woman") that Bob Welch has posted on his own website. |
