It's not usually the artist who does this, it's usually the record companies. I've always felt that the record companies do more to cheat their customers rather than reward them and they wonder why so many people resort to file sharing services like limewire. You'd think that they would come up with a special promotion to reward fans who have bought everything an artist has to offer. Like, buy the CD/DVD set and get a link to download that one extra song. But no, you want the packaging and the DVD so you buy the set, you want the extra song so you have to buy the whole album to download it. So to get all of the material you have to buy both. Then you just feel cheated. I know they are in business to make money but I don't see how expecting fans to have to pay twice just for an extra song is fair.

Plus, I do not think itunes purchases will work unless you have a registered computer - though software may exist that corrects this.
|
No you don't have to register your computer, mine isn't and I download from there all the time.

The thing I find annoying about the whole itunes/ipod thing is that people are always uploading their cd's onto their PC and/or ipod, then selling the cd's on eBay. Yet when their PC or ipod fail they are left without the music they could have had they not sold their discs - so naturally they have to purchase those albums again.

The authorization process is part of their software to prevent file sharing of purchased AAC format songs. |

A HA!!!! Thanks for that. So, that means if I send someone a copy of the song I bought from iTunes - they cannot play it? |

You can burn it to CD, and then re-import it as an MP3, but when I've done this, the quality reduction is astounding. |
I do that all the time. I buy from Itunes. Burn to a CD and then put it on my computer at work or give it to somebody else. I guess I don't pay attention to the quality that much. I don't own an iPod so that's something I don't have any experience with.

I bought Cosmic Game by Thievery Corporation and have made so many CD's from it. It occasionally "warned" me about making copies and not distributing them. But it never blocked me. By law, you're allowed to copy for personal use. |
I was considering doing this myself, burning the new live Stand Back to a CD then re-importing it mainly so that I could make a CD using Rhapsody instead of iTunes. This brings up another question some of you may be able to answer.
iTunes has a feature in the playback section that you can check off if you want the music to segue into one another. Rhapsody has this too and if you're a premium member, when you burn a CD there is also an option to burn a CD that way as well. You can burn the CD so that the songs crossover into each other by either 3, 5 or 10 seconds. I'd like to do this with iTunes but I don't see that option in the "burning" tab. Does anyone know if you can do that or not with iTunes? Thanks! |

Toast 8 would do it and also is a great program! Where iTunes leaves us featureless, Toast gives it and so much more. Been around for years. |
Thanks Richard!
Seems like a relatively simple feature to add. If they have it for playback why not for burning? Grrrr ... this is another reason I prefer Rhapsody over iTunes. Travis |
