The Pres. can fire any US Atty he wants and at any time he wants. This is because they are political appointments. Clinton, I believe, got rid of them all when he took office. W got rid of most, but kept a few from the Clinton era. The main reason for this is to reward political allies. Similarly, the new appointees are people who will carry forth the party in power's agenda on abortion, gays, etc. So, I have no issue with W getting rod of them in that regard. They all do it under the "to the victor belongs the spoils" doctrine.
In this case, it seems the US Atty's were fired because they were not investigating certain political scandals to the favor of the R's almost exlusively. Moreover, it appears they were told to do this by the DOJ and likely Rove. This is in direct violation of the US Atty's obligation to prosecute the law evenly. In sum, heads are likely to roll on this. In the end though, the public probably could care a less as this is not salacious enough - pathetic if you think about it. |

ah, thats where you're wrong Jason me boyo....the public DOES care. and the more smell and corruption that we as a Nation uncover regarding Rove/Bush/et al, the closer we are to impeaching the bastard! or at least smearing him with a tar brush so badly his legacy will forever be the La Brea Tar Pits. Oh Yes. |
Jason is right but this is stinky politcally. Clinton did it. I know the haters are going to say that. This is just so typical of this administration with their secrecy, hatred and spying that I just don't know what to say anymore. :( Plus, the majority of the Chit Chat forum has turned into a navel gazing fest. :sorry: It's not my thing but this forum is about variety so... It's alright, alright.

On a related note, Barack Obama is coming to OKC on Monday...Cool, another Democrat candidate (Besides Edwards) that actually knows we're a state and not the "Indian Territory". Hell, even Al Gore was just here a week or so ago at O-Who, I meant OU - so he losses points for that (The official state college of the state of Oklahoma is Oklahoma St. (YES!!!!), not O-Who...Ya gain points for OSU, lose 'em for O-Who.) The D's and R's were both wrong on this one and having the D's in power hardly would have changed that to any significant degree. just ask Bill Clinton, who still supports the reasons for invasion :wavey: |

That is not really the issue here though. In fact, it is irrelevant to this issue, which is "Whether these US Atty's were removed for failing to prosecute a vaild matter?" For example, did the WH tell them to let some scandals involving Republicans die on the vine. If so, that is obstruction of justice - ironic isn't it. |

but seeing as the whole thing has come to a far far worse situation under bush the only chance for any slight improvement is with the democrats, knowing now what a disaster the last few years have been. Quote:

also, Jason, I get it that past presidents have removed previous appointees, but this blatant dismissal of only Democratic Attorneys is such an obvious political hatchet job that I personally am glad to see that the Bushies are taking heat for this. The more they are exposed for the evil-doers that they are, the better I like it. |
Ya know, I had someone online ask me to name "one positive that I can attributed to Bush being in office".
That was simple - "The lyrical content of metal music in general has gone back to the anti-government views of late 80's/early 90's thrash metal - which was ALL anti-Reagan, anti-Bush, anti-War." |
