Don't think anybody knows for sure, but I have my money on the Montreux Festival.

strandinthewind 03-16-2007 08:12 PM

Here is a sample

http://www.amazon.com/Crystal-Vision...&sr=1-1#disc_1

She sounds FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It may be worth spending $20 for this alone.

Also, Amazon has cut the price to around $19 for the double disc set.

strandinthewind 03-16-2007 08:16 PM

AND ANOTHER THING

why o WHYdoesn't she sing like this and in this high key all the time. Imagine this kick ass song in the basement key of three notes that she drones Rhiannon in these day - shudders my udders :woohoo:

Okay, I take it back. I just watched my crappy video of the Montreux performance and unless Mark Needham edited out the Chic girls because of legal issues or something, it's not that version.

estranged4life 03-16-2007 08:57 PM

The samples...

My question is why doesn't she sing like this and in this high key on one of her own songs, especially a new song. I'm in the minority, but not impressed with Stevie doing a Led Zeppelin cover. I think it is tired.

Keith 03-17-2007 02:01 PM

there's no way..

rock radio is going to play Stevie Nick's version of "Rock and Roll" - I don't care how much she rocks it. It's a Led Zeppelin song. Period.

Why does rock radio play Rod Stewart's Have You Ever Seen The Rain?..it's a Creedence song...

Indeed ..In fact Heart has done it and better years ago Ann sounding like a female Robert Plant before he lost his range ,it turned up on their Greatest hits/Live album 27 years ago.Sheesh even Sheryl Crow did it a couple years before Stevie so very unoriginal yes.

Here's another one, with pic. I tried to enlarge in my browser to see where it was recorded, but can't quite make everything out.

http://cgi.ebay.com/STEVIE-NICKS-ROC...QQcmdZViewItem

The first one only went for $12.84. You people should be ashamed. ;)

Thanks for posting this! I'm really happy Rock and Roll is the next single for CV.

Livia 03-20-2007 03:22 AM

The Susan Tedeschi version gets played on KGSR quite a bit.

But what I don't get is why they would be releasing Stevie's R & R as a single for radio airplay? She doesn't get the royalties, Zeppelin does. Cha-ching.

Uh maybe because she hasn't recorded anything new by herself for a single for the last 4 years?

I can only make out that it was Produced by Stevie and Waddy... and Mixed by Mark Needham... Doesn't look like it says where it was recorded on the front of the cd.

I don't see a problem with her recording this song, it's a departure for her.. It's different! It may not be fresh and different to many of us, and it may have been covered by many artists already but great songs ARE covered by many artists... Plus, we've been hearing it now for a few years, so it's not really new to us, but to the masses it is...

The Landslide & Rhiannon live cuts that will be on the CD were both recorded pretty recently.

Hm, so either A. he mixed more of her live stuff than just Montreux, or B. they did really mix out Chic's voices.

Ok let me rephrase that :Maybe because she hasn't recorded anything NEW written by herself in 4 years.Besides wasn't a live version of Landslide already released as single?(a rhetorical question I know)

I agree... it's a great, fun, straight-forward rocker.
"Rock And Roll" isn't a surprise when Heart does it, and never was. They were often referred to, in their early days, as "Little Led Zeppelin"... so covering Zep tunes is a no-brainer. But who would have ever thought they'd hear Stevie Nicks do a Zeppelin tune?!

Not me.

As for it being an "unoriginal" choice. Well, gee, with all the people who feel Stevie should record an album of duets, or standards, or a country album... really, how many times have all of those things been done?
So it's not so much whether or not the idea is original, it's getting to hear your favorite singer take on something different for them.

I hear where you're coming from. I'm not one of the people who think Stevie should record an album of duets, standards, or a country album. I'm one of the people who thinks Stevie is one of the greatest songwriters of all time and has a treasure chest filled with great work, even if she can't write another song. So, I find it very unoriginal of her to trot out a Led Zeppelin song--and then to add nothing to it to really make it a Stevie Nicks song.

I don't get Stevie's "take" on this song at all.

I just think she sounds really good singing it, better than on some of own songs now, is why I like it. And of course the song is cool, too.

I agree with you 100% there. I'd rather she didn't do any of the above things either (well, maybe the duets), but they are oft suggested by other fans. I wouldn't refuse to buy them, of course, and I'm sure I'd end up loving the results... but none of those things would ever be my first choice.

Still, I love her take on "Rock And Roll." It's fun and lively, and not something I ever would have expected Stevie to do. So I'm cool with an occasional cover tune here and there (think of how brilliant it would have been to have a recording of "Circle Dance" on there too).
I'm just not crazy about the idea of an entire album of covers, but I don't necessarily see it as an "unorginal" idea.

Macfanforever 03-20-2007 04:16 PM

I don't really like Rock and Roll , but Stevie's version might get her a hit.
I rather see her doing, Led Zep's Stairway to Heaven, instead.

Really if Stevie didn't kick the ass out of it - like she is/has - I wouldn't want her to ever sing it again. Now I can't wait to see her perform this song and I think it has so much hit potential for radio-play. And it's not just her singing. I think the whole presentation of it is very fresh. It has some great keyboards and the back-up vocals arrangement is so classic Stevie. It reminds me of "Gold and Braid" from the Bella Donna tour. That's how much I lover her version of it.
