Rock N Roll Hall of Fame broadcast

Ok, is anyone else watching this tonight?

Just saw a montage of past inductions, which showed some guy named Mick speaking and some witch named Stevie thanking everyone for the honor.

The broadcast is now showing Patti Smith's induction segment.

estranged4life 03-12-2007 09:04 PM

Patti Smith is now performing the Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter", cool

She even thanked the Stones for "writing great Anti-War songs"

"I would like to thank Bruce Springsteen & Jimmy Iovine for this song"-Patti Smith, intro for "Because the Night"

HomerMcvie 03-12-2007 09:08 PM

It is live on VH-1 Classic

michaelD 03-12-2007 09:19 PM

I am watching it... but listening to music too...
I have TIVO rolling, so I can pick and choose what I want to watch.

I did the montage... of Mick and Stevie when they got inducted...

Cool.

estranged4life 03-12-2007 09:20 PM

Now playing is old footage of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones & Neil Young jamming to "When the Levee Breaks"

michaelD 03-12-2007 09:23 PM

I am in the middle of Give Me Shelter...
Strange....

Livia 03-12-2007 09:29 PM

I'm watching and recording - I missed the first few minutes and will have to catch up later.

How cute was Ronnie Spector?

estranged4life 03-12-2007 09:30 PM

Blah, whoever is doing the editing with the bleeper just let Patti Smith slip in the "N" word - Funny they bleep when she said "F**k" earlier.

Rev.Al "Picking my current topic outta a hat" Sharpton is now on...Paying homage to James Brown

estranged4life 03-12-2007 09:31 PM

Ronnie Spector STILL has a great set of pipes, so I paid attention to the Ronettes induction (My Mom loved girl groups from the 60's)

:( We only get VH-1.:(

I remember there was some Christine thing on Classic, a couple of years ago, that I didn't get to see.

SO FREAKING CUTE. aklsdklassal;lasdl;. I totally cried when The Ronettes performed. Ronnie sounds so great. I love her.

And Patti was incredible. Her speech was very moving, brought me to tears. And her performance was great, too. That was the greatest version of "Rock N Roll Nigger" I've heard yet.

estranged4life 03-12-2007 09:39 PM

Holy sh*t...

it's Van Halen time!!!!

estranged4life 03-12-2007 09:44 PM

Well, at least Mikey & Sammy are there to pick up their awards.

DeadliestPoison 03-12-2007 09:45 PM

Yeah, so I cried for Patti's induction. Everything I love about her was on display just now, and it's just awesome that she's FINALLY in there.

I'm listening to 'Horses' in celebration. :)

estranged4life 03-12-2007 09:51 PM

Scott Weiland couldnt sing "Aint Talkin' Bout Love" if you gave him $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Sorry dude, party rock you aint!

He can't sing, period. I've given up on him, dude. STP is over, Velvet Revolver sucks.. Scott, you're a lost cause.

I'm bummed Eddie and DLR aren't there. Thus, I'm not watching.

I was just thinking how great it is too - now I just need Siouxsie and Stevie (as a solo) in

estranged4life 03-12-2007 09:59 PM

Cant have a full Van Halen band, but at least 1/2 half of "Van Hagar" (aka "The Other Half") isnt that bad.

Livia 03-12-2007 09:59 PM

Sammy's wearing an old VH t-shirt - w/ Eddie and DLR on it.

Did you hear that guy in the crowd yelling, "THAT'S NOT VAN HALEN!!" ??

estranged4life 03-12-2007 10:07 PM

Looked to me...

Sammy had on a shirt with the album cover of the "OU812" album.

Edit: Yep, the shirt he is wearing in the press room is the "OU812" album cover shirt.

 Have fun getting The Banshees to play! Siouxsie and Severin can't stand each other these days.

I would like to see them in there, though, but it'll probably never happen.

CHER was suppossed to induct Ronnie but got pulled last week.

rbs

michaelD 03-12-2007 10:24 PM

Good to see Sammy and Michael there...
I thought Velvet Revolver was a horrid choice to play...
The Sammy/Michael/Paul thing wasn't that good either... you could sense the tension in the press room too... It WOULD be awesome if all 5 of them worked it out and went out together....

Long live VH... Get well Eddie...

Ronnie thanked CHER for taking her to cool places to shop in LA.

is that "those in the Van Halen camp" did NOT want VR to induct 'em, and especially play in their absence, the producers did want 'em since VR could use the spotlight to promote their upcoming release.

For a band that is currently in the studio recording a new album VR sounded very sloppy and unhinged to my ears

Amen, I'm sure once Edward gets clean/stays clean the fans will see a true Van Halen reunion with DLR & Mikey.

I cant wait for that one

michaelD 03-12-2007 10:34 PM

I thought they didn't sound great either... certainly not doing anything to drive ticket sales for the next tour...

estranged4life 03-12-2007 10:37 PM

Like the Tom Petty/Jeff Lynne "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" performance from 2004, with Prince playing the solo.

Edit: Does Prince ever not have a great guitar tone???

michaelD 03-12-2007 10:39 PM

Prince just jams.!!! Looking good too.

estranged4life 03-12-2007 10:41 PM

U2's "I Still Havent Found What I'm Looking For" sounds good, as usual - Having Bruce Springsteen doesnt hurt either.

It's always been one of my favorite U2 songs...
On to REM...

estranged4life 03-12-2007 10:47 PM

REM is alright, I know a few of their songs so I am not clueless to 'em.

Totally belong in the Hall!
Great band... Michael Stipe is a little strange but in a rock star kinda way.

estranged4life 03-12-2007 10:49 PM

Gee, is it mandatory that Eddie Vedder appears? I like Pearl Jam, but sheesh

Edit: Is it me or is Eddie's speaking voice more higher pitched than it ever was before?

Macfanforever 03-12-2007 10:56 PM

VH1 Sucks as MTV And CMT

It Figures, its on VH1 Classic. thats on the digital cable which I don't have, I'm stuck with sh$tty VH1 Regular, sucks as MTV and CMT. They rather run reality Sh$t, and movies that has nothing do about music all day and night. I love my cable co, If they dump these 3 channels and give me VH1 Chassics and GAC country tv. I won't miss them.

estranged4life 03-12-2007 11:17 PM

That's why we...

dumped cable for digital satellite. I hated only having CMT, but now I have plenty of music channels to choose from, and I prefer VH1 Classic over all.

Btw, REM sounds damn good!!!

Edit: REM playing "I wanna Be your Dog" with Patti Smith.

Edit 2: "People have the Power" by Patti Smith/REM/the Ronettes/Sammy Hagar/Keith Richards/Stephen Stills

michaelD 03-12-2007 11:27 PM

Hell yeah...
These little jams are OK... Looking forward to the big ones towards the end.
Michael Stipe is in good voice tonight!

estranged4life 03-12-2007 11:33 PM
