A Public Apology

It has come to my attention that some of you feel that I am not living up to the title of moderator.
I am only a pm away with your thoughts or suggestions. I will take them seriously and in kind.
I would like to offer my sincerest apolgies to those of you I have been short with, hurt or otherwise harmed.
I am very proud to be affiliated with the best fan board on the net. It is not my wish nor my intention to leave.
In the future I give you my word to operate with a kinder, gentler machine gun hand (IT'S A JOKE! That's actually a lyric from a Neil Young song.) Seriously though, I feel it is my duty to serve you in the capacity that you so richly deserve.
Namaste'.

No. She's a Chris like Chris in FM. But different. But still a girl. If you see what I mean.

BTFLCHLD 03-09-2007 06:42 PM

And I personally feel you should be receiving an apology for being written to in an unkind and disrespectful manner. The moderators of this board should be treated with respect. Not only do they volunteer their time, they also treat everyone as fairly as possible and do so respectfully and in confidence. Their work could not possibly be easy and, with that, they should be treated with the utmost respect. It is unfortunate that, as often is the case, if someone dislikes a decision made by a moderator their recourse is to make moutains out of molehills never letting go of the bone in their desire to 'geteven.' :distress: Moderators are as human as all of us...good and bad days...high and low emotions...and it is obvious they do the best that they can under often stressful situations. Chris, your note shows you as a kind individual who is open to critique as well that you are open to looking inside yourself and being the best person you can be. That rocks and only ups your cool score with me. A good look within is something everyone should do. What's that they say about stones and glasshouses?

Yeah. I tried to think of female Chris' before I posted. But alas I jumped the gun.

Moderators who wish to receive respect must first show it, something which gldstwmn has recently failed to do. Do not assume that those among us who have voiced concerns about this matter have done so because of a dislike for decisions that have been made or in an attempt to "get even." It's not a matter of "Give me what I want or I'm telling on you." She has shown blatant disrespect for certain members of the Ledge both on these boards and on Seven Wonders and has not conducted herself in a way that is fitting of her position. Put simply: She has not led by example and has commited many of the same infractions for which she has chastized others.

Chris -

While I am glad to see that you are making an attempt to make amends for your behavior, it remains to be seen whether your actions will mirror your words. I have little faith in the ability of people to change but - for once - I hope to be proved wrong.

BlackWidow 03-09-2007 08:04 PM

Chris,
You have been nothing but wonderful to me!
I appreciate all that you do that we know about and ALL that you do..that we do not know about. Your service is to this board is invaluable!

Chris Fox aka gldstwmn

I will personally vouch for what you have said. A while ago, we had a HORRIBLE mis-communication and mis-understanding, and you were very open to communicating and to getting it resolved. that allowed me to appreciate and respect you. and move on. If anyone has a "problem" then they do need to attempt to make the effort to have it resolved. Negative energy in the universe is never good, and it has been my experience that Chris is an intelegent and sensable person who can hanlde a situation like an adult.
Chris...:wavey: ....~Aaron.:)

strandinthewind 03-09-2007 08:57 PM

I think people are way too sensitive, but such is life.

I also think Chris is fair and can be pithy at times, but it is likely meant in jest, to lighten the mood, etc.

Also, can you imagine moderating this gang  I am not a moderator, but people have involved me in their BS via PM's and I was horrified by their pettiness.

So, there is that.

play blind. I've read spew that made inference that the ledge was slowed or down for bannings or closure all due in part to moderators recent interactions with members and "E" (as some refer to him.) transparent. get over yourselves.

Guys, come on - Vicky can be blunt, but I, for one appreciate that.

Of course, her hatred of La Nicks does lower her points a few notches :p

HomerMcvie 03-09-2007 10:56 PM

I really don't want to cause any hard feelings, or stir any ****, BUT, I firmly believe- that trying to MOD Seven Wonders, and threaten Ledge bannings, OVER THERE, was RIDICULOUS. Think about it, folks...
Because.that's.what.happened.

Maybe we should have to list all the sites we visit, let the mods review all our posts, and make sure that our behavior is up to their mods standards. Surely there's some sort of tracking system that can be put into place.

Actually, my biggest problem is her contempt for and condescension towards ryan8472 - a moderator for whom I have the utmost respect.

I understand that people have personal differences with each other, but her insistence on dragging it out into the public forums (while preaching about "moderator solidarity") is inexcusable.

As for the comment made earlier about my behavior, they are two wholly seperate issues and one is not relevant to the other.

I've can read...and I know there was a dis towards the mods of this board creating shutdown or ban due to recent issues at this board. do people actually think a mod would do that as an act of retaliation...really?? f'in ridic. I would have reacted in the same way chris did in defending the board and explaining mods had nothing to do with it nor had info on what was happening. anyone who can read would know there wasn't a reference to ban it was a fincheckyourself in accusing ledge mods of slowing...ban...or close of this board for such idiotic reasoning as suggested.

I took it as sarcasm - but that is the deal about the written word - it is hard to discern the way in which it is proffered.

Hey Chris -
I think that this was a very nice gesture and a very heartfelt message.
A classy move.
I wish your thread had not degenerated into what it has though - a finger pointing fest.
Thanks for extending the olive branch on this for the betterment of our whole community.

Actually(I was gonna give you a link, but that's forbidden, right? It's on SW, under "links"), I said something about "someone" having carte blanche, and she said something to the effect of, "keep talking out of your ass, and you're liable to find yourself spending time on a board with 16yo's" (referring to SW, inferring that I'd be banned here[IMO]).
Very bad mod behavior, IMO.
And I HONESTLY have nothing personally against Chris.

I feel the same way... on both counts.

Regardless of what happened at Seven Wonders, Chris has apologized to one and all and has promised to take a more even-handed approach in her future dealings.

I think that's a VERY classy gesture on her part, and the mature thing on everyone else's part would be to accept her apology and move on, rather than dredging up the whos and whys.

Neither do I.

Our problem is not with her as a person. If she was just a regular Ledgie, I wouldn't be bothered by this behavior and certainly wouldn't have done anything about it, but she isn't a regular Ledgie. She's a moderator and should therefore be held to different standards than the rest of us.

And that being said, I'd like to send my love out to those mods who have done well to keep their cool and be diplomatic in resolving the problems that arise on these beloved forums. :wavey: :xoxo:

Eh, it happens every 2-3 years, over one thing or another.

Not to sound cynical, but I've seen it all happen so many times now... the only thing that really changes, is the people involved. And sometimes not even that.

At any rate, things will get back to "normal" again soon. I'd mention something about "cycles," but I think Lindsey owns a copyright on that speech. ;)
