Landslide is the first single for Crystal Visions

I found 3 listings for the Landslide single on ebay for the Crystal Visions album as well as info from SW. Hopefully Rock and Roll will be the next single. Here's the ebay link: http://search.ebay.com/stevie-nicks-...2dQ20Landslide

markolas 03-05-2007 08:17 PM

How original.

Nixxxed 03-05-2007 08:23 PM

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

foxyluva 03-05-2007 08:26 PM

Pathetic. How many times can you rehash the same ol' song Stevie

markolas 03-05-2007 09:15 PM

Do people still even buy singles? It just seems so 1970s to me. Early 1970s. And why do they pick the most boring songs to release? I know the artists usually don't get much of a say in this, so for once I don't think Stevie can be blamed. But, I mean...wasn't Landslide the single from The Dance? Every Day from TISL? Peacekeeper from SYW? And now Landslide again from this? zzzzzzzzzz

New Zealand has a huge singles market, and I believe its the same with Australia

Again? And this version is with the orchestra, right? I'm not sure what radio stations will play this but then again, I don't listen to regular radio anymore.

I'm not sure that it's necessarily the single -- though obviously they have shipped a promo copy to radio for potential airplay.
"Love Is Dangerous" and "Running Through The Garden" (among others) were also shipped to radio in the past, but they were never official singles.

The record company almost always determines the singles.

I can see your point. I think that this may be a fresh offering to all the stations that normally play Landslide all the time anyway. can't hurt. there isn't really anything on the cd that would be deemed "new" anyway besides RnR, right?

SpyNote 03-06-2007 12:30 AM

I'm kind of excited about the Dreams edit. That's the one promo mix I've never been able to get on CD (because I never wanted to pay more than $10 for it).

Exactly. As I said somewhere else, this doesn't mean it's going to be a single, I think it's merely going to be used for promotional purposes.

yeah. and Rock and Roll is only half as Rock and Roll as Rock and Roll originally was.

decent version, but Rock and Roll? nah...:(

Kelly 03-06-2007 07:41 AM

What is the difference if it is classified as the "first single" or it is being shipped to radio just for promotional purposes? Isn't that basically the same thing?? Aren't singles used for album promotion? They are given to radio stations to play? I get that you can buy the maxi singles and big fans want to collect all the official singles etc, but the whole purpose of a single is promotion and airplay.

The big difference is that singles are released commercially. I doubt that will happen with this version of Landslide.

Hmm. That is true but in the States they aren't that big of a deal anymore, I don't think. (singles) I had to buy all the maxi singles from ebay, it is not like I could walk into the record store and get the POTU single. I know Foxy said singles are huge in NZ but here, not so much. Either way, Landslide is blahsville however it is classified. Reconsider Me was exciting for Enchanted...because it was new.

HA! Really, though, I guess we can forget about that being dropped for a more obscure tune.

SpyNote 03-06-2007 02:12 PM

I think a "single" is any release from an album. So it can be promotional or commercial. The purpose is still the same in both cases, to promote the album. Radio often refers to radio-only songs as singles, so it doesn't necessary mean it has been commercially released.

That's true, they aren't that big here anymore either, but still, they ARE available if you want them. A single in the classic sense has changed a little, definitely. The line between a single and a promo disc has blurred. But the charts are still based on singles. And singles come with videos. So, I doubt they are sending the new Landslide version to radio stations with the intention of it hitting the charts.

Besides, don't those website like iTunes and MSNMusic still release 'singles' before the actual album is released? So in that sense it still exists.

Which one? The radio-promo single (with the edit of "Planets") or the one with the remixes and the extended album version?
If you're referring to the latter, my local Circuit City at the time had five copies of it. It was also available on Amazon.com.

Maybe not all stores carried it though, but it was commercially available.

"Landslide" isn't anything new, but I still think it's the best best on the CD for radio play. I never once heard "Reconsider Me" on the radio, and when I called around to local stations to ask them to play it, they told me they didn't even know it was out (and this was three weeks after I read in Billboard that the single was released).

As far as the difference between an "official" single and what's simply a radio promo... I really can't say what determines that designation. I do know that in artists' official discographies, I never see the radio promo songs listed as "singles." (Peruse Mick's second book, for example, and you'll see "Save Me," "Skies The Limit" and "Hard Feelings" listed as US singles, but you won't see "Love Is Dangerous" -- even though a radio promo CD exists.)

Hawkeye 03-06-2007 03:17 PM

Uh I'm a little confused, since when do Best Ofs even HAVE singles. And really weren't 90 percent of theses songs already singles at one point or another. The only song that is new at all is Rock N Roll which wait has also been being played heavily on the radio for the past 35 years as well  longer then any of the other songs on the CD when you think about albeit by LZ but still its Rock and Roll.

A lot of "best of" compilations have a single -- it just depends on whether or not the compilation is being marketed with new songs. Fleetwood Mac's 'Greatest Hits' had a single ("As Long As You Follow"), as did 'Timespace' ("Sometimes It's A Bitch" and "Love's A Hard Game To Play"). Dozens and dozens of other artists have had singles from "best of" releases, too.

However, there are also many that don't. Again, it just depends on whether or not they've included any brand-new tracks.

I tried to get the later in 2001 in South Jersey and even Tower Records, Philadelphia did not have it. I ended up getting it off of ebay. I am sure they are still available..my point was the line is definately blurred between official single and promotional release. The purpose of both is album promotion.

They did play 'Reconsider Me' on the radio, in Philadelphia, as several of the DJs are big Stevie fans at MGK. I never requested it but heard it two or three times. I certainly never thought it was a smart single choice for radio but it was new and fresh and excited me, as a hardcore fan. (who else would have bought Enchanted anyway?)
