Dreams Fan Event review
I managed to make it back in one piece and am exhausted. it was a great time and I have lots to share. but, of course, I'm having computer problems...with my iMac. figures. and I haven't swapped everything (or anything actually) to my MacBook. anyway, as soon as I get settled in, rested and figure out what's going on, I'll share a review and pics/vids.

yay. can't wait for a full review.
fun? packed? |
On the edge of my seat.
I think you should have named this thread Jazzy Does Boston. Just as an homage to Debbie Does Dallas. |

the review
Let’s see…where to begin. I guess there’s not much to review besides the show since I didn’t do a whole lot else. Besides the boring stuff like delayed flights and packed airports, that’s about the extent of the excitement apart from the show. The Hyatt Harborside is a great hotel with awesome views and a nice pool/sauna/workout area, but expect at least at $20 cab ride to anywhere. Boston didn’t really hit me as a place I’d like to live or visit often though. Nothing against the place, I just didn’t get that “vibe” – but the architecture and buildings were all gorgeous. Anyway, on to the good stuff.
So, soundcheck was at 4 on Saturday so I spent all day Saturday pacing and drinking water. I worked out, sat in the sauna and swam in the pool trying to calm my nerves and take my mind off of it. Why I do this to myself I don’t know. So, I get to soundcheck and the venue is awesome. Very nice and really perfect for the event. We had a few technical difficulties, which carried into the actual performance, but managed in the end. Since we didn’t start soundcheck til 4 and that took til a little after 5, it put me back at the hotel around 5:45 or so and I was supposed to be back and ready to go around 7:45. talk about a mad dash. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten ready so quick in my life. The only thing I didn’t have time to do was my nails. I just said screw it. So, make it back to the club and there’s a good size crowd. I’d probably say there were about 75 people. I’m horrible at guesstimating, but that’s my guess. And for the record, I have to accept responsibility for earlier reports that the venue holds 4000 people, I knew I saw 4000 somewhere, but it’s 4000 sq. feet, not capacity. My bad. Sorry. Anyway, so I go on about 8:30ish and had a few problems with the sound. At soundcheck I thought I had explained the right levels for my mic and the music, but they either forgot or the presets got lost when they blew a circuit. In any event, at times I couldn’t hear myself or really hear the music and so I ended up singing too loud and running out of breath or not really being able to find my place in the song. It was weird, but it is what it is. There was a little feedback here and there, but nothing too bad. After my set, Teri (Gypsy Wild aka Gypsy0033) went on and did an awesome set. She did a few songs acoustically with her son and it was really amazing. Especially her rendition of Doing the Best I Can. Then, Barbara (Timeless Barbara) hit the stage and totally rocked out in her 80’s Stevieness. She was great; especially on How Still My Love. Then, we came back and each did an encore. Barbara did Edge, I did BATB and Teri did SOTM. All of which I think were our best performances of the night. Lastly, we all joined together and sang Bella Donna. This is where the technical glitches were really apparent…bad, bad feedback, one mic didn’t work…just bad. but somehow we managed to really make it work and I think, in spite of the problems, pulled it off and made it special. The event wasn’t packed…it wasn’t even nearly packed, but in retrospect, it doesn’t matter really because the people that were there were amazing and were having such a good time. There were people from the UK and people that drove 15 HOURS to come see this show. Brian and everyone involved did a great job promoting and trying to peak interest. It was the first annual so there’s room for growth and improvement. Live and learn. I’m just honored and happy to have been at the first. I met so many funny people and people that truly had a great time. Teri and Barbara were so much fun and I’m glad I was able to share the time with them getting to know them and see them perform. To the lady working the door (wherever/whoever you are) that kept spirits up backstage, thank you! You were hilarious and so much fun. And thanks for the drink tickets and the salicylic acid tips! Hopefully, I’m not forgetting anything, but if I am, I’ll come back and update. |

I'm so sorry it wasn't as well attended as it could have been. Sounds like a great show despite all the sound problems. I hope the atmosphere still felt very Stevie-ish and you all enjoyed yourselves.

That's what I'm talking about. Sounds like it was a great night for all involved! I'll definitely be needing that audio. |
damn jason, you look fantastic. Glad you had a good time, and can't wait to hear the audio.
stevie who?? :p ;) |
I had such an excellent time at this. I met a bunch of people from SW at their hotel and followed them to the club. I met Brian and countless others. It was such a fun night. Unfourtunately, I walked in when Jaz was doing Stand Back so I missed most of his performance. Teri was just absolutely amazing. Such a nice lady. Barb was very great as well. The place was very nice. The room was big and spacious. I loved all the Stevie songs they played all night.
Great time! |

Anyway, sounds like an awesome setlist. I'm looking forward to hearing the vocal arrangement you guys did for "Bella Donna." Was it like the "soft version" demo or the album version? |

Bella Donna was mostly like the album version. and it's the only part of my performance I didn't get video of...I just ran out of room on the camera. after BATB, it was all gone. but I know Barbara taped the whole thing. and the sound guy has audio. I have to contact him for it. I'm hoping to upload all the vids I have tonight. any suggestions as to what site to use? I'd rather not post them for the whole world to see, like on YouTube, but if I have to, then I will. |
Awesome, you looked fatastic! Can't wait to see the vids!!:blob1:
|
You can put them on Youtube, but make them private & just post the link here for us. That way nobody doing a general search there can watch it. or, you can make it public but not allow comments. :D
And did I hear that you can upload vids to Photobucket now too? |
You can do vids on Photobucket, as long as they're under 5 minutes each.

alright...let's see if this works.
a few notes: my camera does not pick up the audio as clearly as it actually sounded. it's a little distorted, but it's better than nothing. oh, and sorry for the trip to the floor during the middle part. :) Fall from Grace (Part 1) |

ok, so that's not working right now. maybe it's still being processed. in the meantime, and while I upload more, enjoy my NOTS performance of I Can't Wait. |
