I like trees, do you?
Aren't trees cool?
http://www.djangomusic.com/images/co...35143AD2IO.jpg Please let me know whether you like trees or not and if you do which is your fave! Edit: if you are in any doubt of how awesome trees can be check out this link of the 10 Most Magnificent Trees In The World http://www.neatorama.com/2007/03/21/...-in-the-world/ |
I love trees! But I'm sad to admit that I've never really learned the different types of trees.
Like if you were to put different trees in front of me, I couldn't properly identify each. Aside from "Weeping Willow"...I'm tree ignorant. But I love them :D |
I love them too. Oak trees are pretty cool. I also like a tree that has a skinny trunk, but its leafy top spreads out really wide & the branches are kind of gnarled & crooked. I don't know what they're called, I'm sure there are several different kinds that do this.
I do not like maple trees. Because of the helicopters/whirlies they drop to spread the seeds. |
I like all trees.
...Except for Bradford Pears, which I moderately dislike. When they bloom, they stink like rotting fish. Disgusting. |

When I was a kid our neighbour had a beautiful garden filled with trees but when they moved a new family moved in and the first thing they did was cut down all the trees! I don't know, it really made me sad. Then they complained that the trees in our garden were "blocking the view" (to what? our windows?). Sadly not everyone likes trees. :( |
i love trees. and paula - that's WHY maples are so cool! loser. :D

When I was a kid my grandparents had this big beautiful tree in their backyard...huge, big green leaves. Then the built a pool, the tree was near it, great shad tree - but then my grandpa decided to chop it down because the leaves were falling into the pool and affecting the chlorination :distress: I've never gotten over that...they turned the stump into a table. |
Quote:
Not really :p Anyway, that is a sad tree story :( although tree stump tables are pretty cool you must admit. |

But hey...my grandpa also used to sit on the porch and shoot cats with a bb gun if they tried to pee anywhere near the pool - the man was no great environmentalist or anything... |
This reminds me of the most insane question asked as Super Bowl media day. Back in the 80's, Downtown Julie Brown actually went up to a player and asked the following question: "If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?"

Im quite fond of the Totara tree

I'm glad you put an exclamation point next to the thread title, or I wouldn't have realized how dramatic, suprising, and important this thread was.
Pine trees rule (no, I'm not sure which type) because they're like ladders. In other words, perfect for climbing way to the top. Then you cling and sway. Also Ideal for forts. Pretty sappy, though, which you don't really care about cause they're such good climbin'. Taken from Amber's "Excerpts From My Idyllic Outdoor Childhood". |

I want more tree pics! |
I love trees. The shade from a tree on a warm, summer's day is the best thing ever.
Dogwoods are my fav. I love how the blooms "bleed" during a certain season. |

But hey..I'll vote high for this stellar example of an important thread :D |

Edit: :D I have the highest rating thread on The Ledge! |

Me, on the other hand? I'm still smarting from the bad rating of my shoe thread :p |

I like the exclamation, it's a bold choice. More timid souls would have gone with the green arrow... |

Here are a few tree pics from my bush:

The street I grew up on used to have trees in front of every house lining the block. Now, they are all gone. When they had to put sidewalks in the trees were the first to go. Progress I guess... and the ADA. My favorites, besides the ever present palm tree, are the Jacaranda's throughout SoCal when they are in bloom.

I'm partial to the joshua tree. We have some really cool pics from a trip. I'll try to post them when I get home and have access to them.
I also like palm trees. |
I have more trees in my yard than anyone in this side of town, "Nan nanna boo boo, y'all smell like doo doo" My yard stays shaded throughout the summer (Which is why the grass dies out - but I dont mind since I wont have to mow dead grass)
I have several huge Birch trees, American Elm trees (aka "Piss Elms") a blackberry tree and a famosa tree. There's another huge tree on the lot, but I cannot remember what exactly the type it is (It has large bean pods that grow to over a foot in length - and it sprouts white flowers before the bean pods grow). According to my older brother, I have more trees in my yard than the whole city of Lubbock Texas. |
Trees are wonderful. Miracles. Testaments to perseverance and strength, and nurturing and life.
OOh yes yes I do love trees!! Magnolia trees... and the wonderful oaks in the deep south with the spanish moss swaying from the branches... The cypresses in the swamps in Louisiana... With their knee-roots sticking out of the water.... Any tree is great though really :D |
Oh my god Terry. That's the tree I was going to post. I've been researching them for a few months, looking for any variety that will grow down here.
But since you beat me to it, I'll go with the Bottlebrush. It's an ornamental willow variety native to Australia that thankfully has naturalized in the southern coastal areas of the US. Hummingbirds go bazonkers over them. ^^^That tree is incredibly similar to New Zealand's Pōhutukawa:

Wow Michael -that's a nice one too. Why can't I have a bigger yard?!?
