Crank it up

Okay give it up. I know you have some and you can't hide from the light any longer. I busted a girl on the way into work for it, and she knew she was 100% guilty as soon as she saw the look on my face.

Friends, I'm talking about car singing. Actually more along the lines of performing. Singing, dancing, actions, emotion....the whole bit. We all have a list of a few songs that cause us to temporarily lose our sh*t completely. Whether you can sing or not is irrelevent here. Talent matters not. What matters is that these songs are so great that even the meekest of people can give a balls out performance.

So...out with it. What songs make you bust out the car dancing/singing? Or while showering, grocery shopping, studying, family planning, plotting, etc? I'll start:

Early 80's Madge (Burning Up, Borderline, etc)
Rock & Roll (Preferably the orginal, but I rock it to Heart's version too)
Stand Back (LIB is a good version for the car)
Don't Stop Believing
Anything Motown
and as of last weekend, Whitney's I Wanna Dance with Somebody

carrie721 02-27-2007 01:22 PM

anything. seriously. but my most egregious moments have occurred during ...

-crazy on you
-stand back
-the chain
-angel
-walking on broken glass
-eo17 (natch)
-gypsy
-hanging on the telephone

yeah, too many to list.

DrummerDeanna 02-27-2007 02:10 PM

Oh I'm a complete and total car singer. I think it might be physically impossible for me to be in a car and NOT sing.

I'll sing to anything and everything I know...and I don't care who sees me, if I get a funny look I just belt it out at whoever is looking at me funny

Some of my favorite car hits:

Def. Like a Prayer...
Time After Time
Goodbye to You
Bohemian Rhapsody
We Are the Champions
Let me Roll it
Lips of an Angel

Ok...there are a lot...I sing. All the time.

Bohemian Rhapsody may be one of the best car tunes ever. How could ANYONE forget it?? :p

CelticGypsy 02-27-2007 02:21 PM

I have been singing in the car since I was a kid. The only time I got stopped by a policeman for speeding while singing was to an Elton John song CD. lol I got a warning since I personally knew the policeman from our small town and he was SHOCKED I was going faster than 40 MPH:laugh: I drive like a grandmother which I wasn't at that time:D

On road trips, I always take my Fleetwood Mac and Stevie CD's. My hubby hates it too:xoxo: I am a terrible singer but it makes me happy:D

estranged4life 02-27-2007 02:27 PM

It's not a good tune for me...

Oh I'm no great singer, but I don't care  It's usually just me, and I belt like a fool. When people are with me I tone it down some, but again, I can't NOT sing in a car....

Ha..I do a watered down version - a road friendly version if you will - a bit of head bobbing...but I've never been into the head-banging thing (though I had a brief period of headbanger wannabe-ism in middle school)...so Bohemian Rhapsody remains an ok car song :D

carrie721 02-27-2007 02:32 PM

^^ solsbury hill - absolutely! also red rain and a multitude of others. PG rules.

estranged4life 02-27-2007 02:34 PM

steering wheel covers because when I drive I tend to drum out the drum pattern to the song that's playing. And yes (!!!) I double bass kick the floor board during a heavy tune. Odd, considering I am the safest driver you can ever ride with

Brian "Drummer trapped in a bassist body" j.

we are just out there doing our part - saving lives - singing in our cars.

 that's right.

We should demand insurance discounts.

I forgot to mention - if there's nothing good on the radio (common) or I'm sick of cds and didn't bring my mp3 player - I'll sing accapella man!

And when I do that I'm all about musicals...

Sound of Music
Mary Poppins
Newsies
Lion King
Little Mermaid

This would be pretty representative of my list. Much more Heart, of course. When Barracuda comes on, I have to watch that I don't start going really, really fast.
More Blondie, too.
All Mac/Stevie, all the time.

yeah, i was going to add more heart and blondie, but i didn't want to end up listing half of their discographies.

 The picture of you driving in my head is very amusing. I've combined the Wayne's World thing with your drumming and bass kick...:p

Oddly enough I don't drum in the car. I do it EVERYWHERE else while listening to music, but not in the car

Well, here are some:

Madman Across the Water
Crazy On You
Shooting Star
The Joker
With Or Without You
Solsbury Hill
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
St. Teresa
Sisters Of the Moon
Help Me
Wish You Were Here
Aqualung
Roundabout
Suite Judy Blue Eyes
Somebody To Love

Lady (I didn't know I needed to sing with this, until it came on in a friend's car: "don't be thinking that I don't want you...")

bretonbanquet 02-27-2007 04:16 PM

I am totally guilty of this  I was doing it less than an hour ago, in fact, plus the drumming on the wheel, the whole business... I have that ability to remember lyrics, even to songs I haven't heard for years and years, so I can drivel on to thousands of songs with nooo problem :D I like to compare my puny range to that of whichever singer I'm listening to, and I'm closer to Paul Rodgers than anyone else. But uhh.. he's good and I ain't

It gets bad when I make mixes for my friends that are desiged to be driven to. Most of the songs are new wave or alternative 80's hits that only I would know the words to.

Of course you do.

So basically what I'm seeing here is the need for two things.

1. Ledgie get together
2. A vehicle large enough to accomodate us and our talents.
