Would you give up your Stevie demos?

Thought this would be interesting since so many demo's are being shared right now!

Suppose you meet Stevie one day and mention to her how much you love the demo "China Doll". Upon hearing this she becomes very upset and tells you she wishes her fans would not listen to her works in progress. She takes your hand and looks you right in the eyes and pleads with you to no longer listen to them. What do you do?

I'd say sure thing. I haven't listened in ten years or so maybe, anyway :)
And I don't even know what China Doll is, imagine :D

I'd tell her that I'll stop listening to them when she gets her lazy ass back in the studio and records a new album.

I chose the 3rd option, but I really would want to say this ^^^.

vermicious knid 02-12-2007 10:23 AM

I would be less of a fan without them. She has no business keeping things like "She Loves Him Still", "Maker of Birds", and the demo of "The Tower" locked up; unappreciated.

I heard most of these demos back to 97' or so, I know they have been in circulation much longer than that except the master reels that Modern records auctioned off a few years ago. The demos & outtakes have only made me a bigger fan of Stevies talent. Stevie was very prolific in the 70's till mid 80's...As she has always said....and it kills me that many of these songs were not put out or brought to fruition..

I feel very lucky to have gotten to hear such gems as:
Space Needle
Chanel Chanel (in the darkness)
She Loves Him Still
City Of Hope
If You Were My Love
ALL THE BEAUTIFUL WORLDS:]
Forest of the Black Roses
The Dealer
Mistaken Love
Joan Of Arc
Belle Fleur
Julia
Sanctuary
Christian/Spinning Wheels

HELL, all Stevie needs to do is record these songs and release them and she'd have a KILLER new CD, get a great producer like Jon Brion or Rick Rubin, and not worry about putting out a commercially viable product .....go in for the artistic beauty and expression! It would be a critical success and songwriting achievement for her.
I also fantasize that shes'd just release some of her mellow demos i.e. The Rhiannon Project of sorts w/ FOTBR, Mistaken Love, 3 Birds Of Rhiannon, She Loves Him Still, with minimal production & some strings. Just Stevie a great piano player, strings and slight percussion. what a beautiful way to end her solo/songwritting career...who cares about Hits at this point....Stevie has nothing more to prove.....just record a classic recording. How magical would that be.

michaelD 02-12-2007 11:30 AM

I'd tell her to release an album of the demos....
These are some killer songs, that when mixed in a studio would rock!

skcin 02-12-2007 01:38 PM

I chose option 3 (because, seriously, it's true...) but I think I'd barter with her.

"Listen Stevie, you ain't gettin' Space Needle back, I'm sorry, but I love it too much. You can have Amber though."

Yes, I'd try to trade too.
I'll never give gems like Space Needle, Christian, She Loves Him Still, Night Gallery, Battle of the Dragon, but she can have....let's see...Love is like a river, Stay Away, and Castaway ;)

No fukcing way! Stevie believes in the fates - "the spirits are ruthless with the paths they choose." In which case I would say that these demos were meant to be leaked and heard. And there are times when I think they have been leaked on purpose. At this point in her career, since she appears tio be uninterested in making new music I'm thankful to have them. And just imagine, by her statements, there are thousands more.

I'm glad there is someone out there that loves this song!!!! ha ha I thought I was the only one. But yeah, I totally agree, there is NO WAY you could make me give up space needle.... Just thinking about the song gets me emotional, it is just THAT beautiful

estranged4life 02-12-2007 05:29 PM

She can have her demos, I have Cd's of the master reels so I wouldnt miss the demos

catinthedark 02-13-2007 12:39 AM

god - it would kill me to know she was upset that i have all her demos, but i would try to talk with her. i would tell her how much mistaken love means to me. i would seriously try to express to her how she touched my heart with that song, and i would ask her to tell me, explain to me, why she needs to take it away. it would be like wrenching a true love from me to take it back.

space needle... chanel, chanel... i would be so sad if i could never hear them again. without you... oh, stevie. how could i give these treasures back? :distress:

StreetAngel86 02-16-2007 05:16 AM

i love Stevie but probably not
im just one little fan in millions who have her demos

on the other hand i would appease her IF
she committed in WRITING that she would record a new cd with

Something Exquisite
Prettiest Girl in the World
Mistaken Love
Beautiful Ghost
All the Beautiful Worlds
Forest of the Black Roses
Space Needle
Joan of Arc {the wicked angsty version}

if she agreed to that
i wouldnt care if she never recorded any new material ever again  :D

Hi Dee,
Sandra here. I always said I would not listen to Stevie's demos but!!!!! I downloaded most of them yesterday from Nixxxed. Wow I am so glad I did. There are some beautiful songs there. Glad to have something new to listen to. Do you realise it will be 1 year on the 19th since Melbourne. What great memories.
Luv Sandra:xoxo: :xoxo:

RockALittle250 02-16-2007 12:33 PM

I can't live without At The Fair, City Of Hope and Tied Up In Promises! So, I chose option #2 lol. Is it true that the reason all of these demos were released is because she entrusted them with her brother and is that who she's referring to when she said that someone came into her life and took them from her?

Liza 02-16-2007 05:33 PM

How do you get to hear those demos?

This must sound so ignorant, and i have been a big Stevie fan since 1979!!!! How do you get to listen to those demos? Just the titles sound wonderful???

Liza 02-16-2007 06:09 PM

Thank you so much, i shall have a look - I can't waitx:blob1:

Liza 02-16-2007 07:16 PM

How wonderful

I have spent a long long time downloading some of these demos - wow they are fantastic - why doesn't stevie release some of them, i don't understand. There are so many and most I have listened to are so fantastic - at last new Stevie music i can listen too, it's been a long time. Thank you for introducing them to me:lol:

Macfanforever 02-16-2007 09:30 PM

If she personally tills me to not to listen to the demos.I probably stop, but.I probably will be upset,I feel I was evesdroping in the recording studio with those demos.I like to how these demos got out, Apparently some clown pulled a fast one on Stevie and got away with it.Thats not fair to her.

UndoingTheLaces 02-20-2007 10:21 PM

Remember what The Beatles did when they reunited and took the demo with John Lennon singing and did all new music to it. How faboo would it be to have all those amazing demos be given to some producers and fleshed out with all new arrangements? Imagine The Tower with a full orchestra behind it? Or China Doll with Sara McLaughlan doing piano and background vocals? Or even Lindsay weaving his magic around Lady From The Mountain or Christian?

markolas 02-20-2007 10:39 PM

I'm not so sure anyone "pulled a fast one" on Stevie. I tend to think a lot (most? all?) of these demos were leaked on purpose.

Agreed. She carried tapes with her all of the time and shared them with a large network of friends.
