Thanks Pattie :wavey:
Lennon/McCartney This happened once before, When I came to your door, No reply. They said it wasn't you, But I saw you peep through your window, I saw the light, I saw the light, I know that you saw me, 'cause I looked up to see your face. I tried to telephone, They said you were not home, That's a lie, 'cause I know where you've been, I saw you walk in your door, I nearly died, I nearly died, 'cause you walked hand in hand With another man in my place. If I were you'd realize that I Love you more than any other guy, And I'll forgive the lies that I Heard before when you gave me no reply. I've tried to telephone, They said you were not home, That's a lie, 'cause I know where you've been, I saw you walk in your door, I nearly died, I nearly died, 'cause you walked hand in hand With another man in my place. No reply, no reply. |
Great love song.

Lindsey says, "Romance need not be defined only by the illusions it creates. In 'No Reply,' penned by John Lennon, a man confronts his lover with her infidelities while she denies them. Although his proof is clear, he seeks only to reestablish trust, which elevates 'No Reply' from a song of alienation to one of forgiveness and romantic faith." Very honest. |
Wow...I enjoy his explanation of his admiration for one of my very favorite Beatles songs!
|
Lindsey has fantastic taste in music.:xoxo: I am really shocked at how many songs we love in common.

but seriously. I don't really get how his explanation really works with this song. there's only a couple lines about forgiveness. it still sounds really dark and un-romantic to me. |
Even Go Your Own way is a Love-song. Romance is not only about everything going well. Even Jim Morrison and Ian Curtis can be labelled as overly romantics. Come on guys, read a little out of the box.

Gerald is right, Go Your Own Way is really a love song also, I wish a guy would sing to me 'Baby, I'd give you my world, open up, everything's waiting for you'. Those are the true feelings in the song, the chorus is just the anger talking. And yes, Jim Morrison... Love Street is a perfect example. Written about his girlfriend Pamela. These things are all just hidden in between all the darkness and despair. |
YAY!! :] I love The Beatles!! I'm glad he chose from their catalogue.
The Beatles rule! :D |

Me likey da Beatles.
But yeah, it is sort of an odd "love song" choice, but I suppose given his difficulties in the relationship department, rather appropriate. Plus he's got his own songs for love with Kristen. "It Was You" probably being the most overt and also a damn fine Valentine's Day song in itself. |
a very pretty melody.

Still happy that he used The Beatles though!! |
I love Lindsey but that is one weird and slightly pretentious (given his reasoning) choice of Valentine's song. I hope his present to his wife is a little more typically romantic than that.

Hmm....what's real deep love without anger? what's real deep love without darkness and despair? Come on guys, love and romance is about sehnsucht and jealousy and egoism as much as positive lightness, attention, longing and altruism. Hey! I've had some! |

I personally wouldn't class GYOW a love song, more a break-up song but I guess it depends on your own definitions about what a love song is.
All I know is, if Lindsey were my partner I don't think I'd feel particularly in the mood for love if he tried to romance me with a song about a woman cheating on her man! |

Well, ofcourse it's a break-up song. But imo a break-up song by a guy who's still so full of love for her that the bitterness is the only way to cover the loss. It is a deeply hurt-in-pride-but-loving soul that speaks here. That's romance too. Or is that projection in hindsight. |

Hmmm, I guess in some ways it's a love song, it's just not romantic I guess. I do know quite a few people who turned to GYOW when they split up with someone, it has just that right combination of love and bitterness!
