The Police on the Grammys

Can't wait to see this reunion!
Touring this summer... I hear they are playing 60 dates in the US.
2 of which should be Wrigley Field on 7/8 and 7/9.

I wonder is will be just the three of them on stage. I mean FM had like seven other people on stage and about that many under the stage.

If it is just the three and roadies, they are going to make a fortune!

I can only find the US tour dates on the website, but the European dates I have found so far are:

Manchester, UK Sept 1, 2007
London, UK Sept 8, 2007
Cologne, Germany Sept 11 and 12, 2007
Paris, France Sept 19 and 20, 2007

Unless they announce a date in the Netherlands, I'll be at one of the two Cologne shows. It's only an hour away from here.

strandinthewind 02-12-2007 03:14 PM

The whole ad lib thing IMO just fell flat on its face. If I were them, I would have done Roxanne just as on the single and maybe mixed in Message in a Bottle. People want peppy and that gig was not that.

^ Look Theresa, they're playing Canada 3 times in 3 different cities! So stop your whining about how nobody plays Canada.

That being said, I don't want to see them badly enough to fork over that much cash & cross the border. :D

ryan8472 02-12-2007 03:47 PM

NME says more dates will be announced within the next few weeks. Including cities like LA, San Fransisco, Chicago, Columbus and HARTFORDDDDDDDDDDD. YEAH THATS RIGHT.

Livia 02-12-2007 03:54 PM

When they said 60 dates yesterday, was that just for North America or worldwide? I can't find anything online to clarify that, but I'm assuming it's 60+ dates in North America and then more worldwide.

Regardless, it looks like everyone will have an opportunity to see them. That June 30th date in New Orleans would be a fun weekend. Since they're doing Bonnaroo, perhaps they'll end up at ACL too, like Tom Petty did. I'm sure they'll play Houston and San Antonio too.

UnwindedDreams 02-12-2007 04:42 PM

That August 3 MSG show looks mighty tempting...

Aren't you clever Sting!?
One thing I do not like...the fee for his site and now the Police site.

Yeah, I'm surprised that they aren't letting sting.com members participate in a pre-sale. The $100 fan club fee is a bit steep- but the way I look at it, it's going to deter scalpers (U2 charged only $50 for theirs, and look where that got them).

It's going to end up being 60-80 dates in North America. Apparently, the guys are getting along so great (what a wonder a $150m advance guarantee check for the tour will do) that they agreed to do a fall leg of North America along with other non-Europe international locales beyond the initial contract. Basically (as you said) if you want to see the Police this summer, you'll have a chance to. It's going to be a great year for every Police fan.

I was SHOCKED- SHOCKED- they ended up playing the the festival in Tennessee- I'm not sure they are going to play Austin City Limits, though- unless they shell out the huge dough Bonnaroo did. Bank on a show at Toyota Center- not sure they will hit Austin or San Antone.

2nd shows have been added in these cities (from Pollstar)

05-30-2007 Vancouver, BC
07-23-2007 Toronto, ON
07-26-2007 Montreal, QC

I was impressed. I'd never thought the "doze away-musicman Sting" could find the energy again that made the Police great. A jazzy, offthewall instrumental base with punky pophooks all over. Coming back with this exact same approach - but decades later with a new arrangement in the basic track, but keeping the melodic lines intact, was great. They never tried to please masses of people, and I love it that they put the landmark at exact that place: You can expect Roxanne, but they presented it just not in the way you would expect. Still, the energy-typical for the Police- was there. And that is a lot more than I expected.

Ha. It looks like shackin'up's defending LB against Strandinthewind!

They confirmed at the press conference, which I just had the pleasure of watching yesterday that it will be just the three of them. They want to show everyone that they can just go out themselves and still sound like that. After watching that press conference with just the three of them playing, they don't need any help. And Sting can still hit the notes. I got goosebumps. Whatever kind of yoga Gordy is doing is doing good by him. I must say that Stewart Copeland still has amazing chops. It was really something. I hope everyone has had a chance to see the press conference. They fukcin' rocked.

At the press conference, their manager said it's now planned as a world tour, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Europe etc.

I loved it! I thought the arrangement was fab. This is so not going to be some oldies act tour. These blokes have got the right idea.

 Well, this co-worker gave me tickets to see Etta James...guess what? I was just on my way back from the staff lounge and he asked if I am going to see The Police in LA. I said no and whimpered about taxes and my alternator, etc...he said...I have an extra ticket for you for your birthday! Then he asked when my b-day is! Not until september!

I am very excited! :] :] :]
