Reality Show Glut, too many of them. uhh
Does everyone agree with me, MTV,VH1,CMT now suck. were's the music.
I want music videos and concerts on those channels. ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX networks are a little better. CSI Shows are still going strong.I don't know, I'm just tired of this junk tv thrown in my face every night. |
I don't have cable...but I've noticed lots of articles and such for various "reality shows" on different networks...it does seem excessive, but then again I've been guilty of watching one or two on network tv.
Guilty pleasures: WifeSwap, SuperNanny and I was hooked on For Love or Money in the first and second seasons  I hate myself afterward, but once in a while reality shows capture my interest... Even with that I still claim to hate them. |

It is getting out of control. Especially with the music channels and their blurred interpretation of the word "celebrity". VH1 used to have such great shows that were actually music related. I'm sure I've talked about it before, but Pop Up Video was my ****. I also loved 8-Track flashback, and the Rock and Roll Picture Show. Now it seems the only movie left in their vault is the tv movie about the Jackson family. Hated it!

I can rarely sit through MTV 2's (aka EmptyVee Too) "Headbanger's Ball" without having to see a promo for more lameass-IQ-lower-dumbing-down-of-America-"reality TV"-and-lifestyle-shows. CMT used to be a great source of music videos, but about 2 years ago they started on this 'reality show' (Which I now call "****ality" show) craze and ruined the network. Who wants to see some wife-beating-inbred-goat-f**ker 'pimping' their semi-truck or see some 'supposedly' educated East/West Coast citizens attempt to become a cowboy/cowgirl? The closest some of these people will ever get to a cow in their city life is when they stop at an Arby's restaurant. |
Ugh, please. I don't watch reality TV. It was still fun when it just started, but it's gotten out of hand now. They have a show for everything! And most of the time I get the feeling the audience is being completely duped. I don't get people's fascination with these shows, I really don't. I never watch MTV anymore, I don't need to see snobby 16-year old girls bitch about a million dollar not being enough for their sweet 16. In fact, it makes me want to gag. And if there's no reality TV on, we get rap music. Where did all the good music go to?
What is VH1 airing these days? I am getting a new cable box in a few weeks and VH1 is part of it. Do they still have things like Storytellers and Behind the Music? |
vanessa, most of those shows are now on vh1 classic. vh1 shows reality shows all.damn.day. i can't watch it anymore. when i was little, i used to leave it on like it was the radio. now, i can't stand more than 7 or 8 minutes of it before i have to shut it off.

I stll think those "reality" shows are partially scripted. The only ones (which are really in that category) I kinda watch are the Bike builders - like american chopper, and that seems scripted also. I haven't watched any of the MTV ...etc since about 1990. Just can't stand rap and hip-hop.

I don't mind some reality shows, if they're helping the viewer in some way - Supernanny is good, and I love all the home improvement shows on TLC or HGTV. But that's what those channel are there for. VH1 & MTV are supposed to be for music, and haven't been for some time. It's getting worse & worse too. I don't watch either one anymore, I'm all about VH1 Classic if anything.

I wasn't really thinking that TLC and HGTV are "reality" shows. (I watch those all the time also). Still can't make a damn quilt! Some of those decorating shows make me gag. Where do they get some of these designers? Whenever I hear them use the word "Whimsy" I know it is going to look like crap. Some look okay, but I can't imagine anyone actually LIVING with that stuff. |
