Christine painting of Stevie

Back in 2002, there was a charity auction with a painting of Stevie by Christine. I didn't think a picture of the painting was still on the internet. Here it is. Just click on where it says Christine McVie original painting.

If I remember correctly, the painting went for $5000 on eBay!

I have never heard anything about this. I love the drawing. What a wonderful piece!

carrie721 02-05-2007 05:19 PM

i had no idea chris did the kiln house cover. i've always admired it.

thanks for posting!

Aisling 02-05-2007 08:00 PM

that's beautiful! i've never seen it before. . .thanks for posting.

goldustsongbird 02-05-2007 08:06 PM

That's pretty! Also, looking at the other stuff there... Not gonna lie, I want those handwritten Peter, Paul and Mary lyrics.

I would love to see more of Christine's artwork. She is so multi-talented. Has she ever displayed any of her art? If she has really retired from music (sniff) maybe she could have a second career as a painter.

I'd buy a coffee table book with prints of Christine McVie's artwork, for sure.

That painting looks familiar to me. I have seen it somewhere...maybe it will come to me where. It is very pretty. Are there any other works by Christine available for viewing?

aleuzzi 02-06-2007 12:11 AM

It's a great painting, one that reminds me a little Chagall's later work...I am interested that this was done in the early 90s, when I thought the band was splintered.

No, she didn't do this painting in the early 90's. I believe she did it specifically for the charity auction in 2002.

This painting was auctioned on eBay in 2002. Someone on another message board posted about the auction. Maybe that's where you remember it from.

I've never seen any other painting that she did. She does have some of her paintings in her home though.

I think I remember seeing it on the Destiny Rules documentary. I think it was in the house they recorded at on a mantle or something? I could be wrong though. I'll have to watch it again.

I'd buy that book too. Don't forget she's also dabbled in sculpture too. I think she does it mostly just for fun though.

I'd go for that too!

"I used to draw quite a bit and I still flirt with the idea, but I'm one of those people who gets nervous in front of a blank sheet of paper. I start out thinking I'm going to create a masterpiece and of course that always leads to disappointment. I have all the artists' supplies and everything but if what I'm creating doesn't look brilliant from the outset I abandon it"

That was from Classic Rock around June/July 2004. How many potential masterpieces have ended up in her wasterpaper bin? I think I'll pop over to Kent and rummage through her bins.

Don't forget that tape with her Q & A answers too. You've got alot of work to do in Kent.;) :D

By the way, I like her painting better than her nephew's paintings. And, he's a pro!

There's the tape to get, the gold disk for Homer and now the paintings!

Christine's paintings are more to my taste than Dan's but what the hell do I know about art? Nothing

Yes OK I'm going!

I've got it all worked out. there is however one teeny weeny flaw in my plan - I doubt if she'd let me in when I knock on her door!

Gail, while you're rummaging through Chris' dust bin, see if you can locate Dan's computer. Didn't Christine say that are some more recordings from the In the Meantime sessions on his hard drive? We need to rescue them before his hard drive fails (as all hard drives do eventually). If he asks what you (and the rest of us Chris fans) think of his art, just be sure to change the subject and tell him what a great song we all think "Calumny" is and that we hope he'll do more songwriting!

Proper nettiquitte would be to watch the dvd again and tell me exactly where it is. ;)

Good idea!

So that's the tape, the gold disk, the paintings and Dan's computer.

All I need now is a valid excuse to get in the house!

Maybe I'll just walk up to the front door and say "hello I'm Gail and I've come to collect the tape with the answers to the Q&A, a gold disk (any will do), any of your old paintings you have lying around oh and I'd like to take copies of the outtakes from In the Meantime. "What do mean you're calling the police? Step away from the phone Christine"

And that one is actually of "Rappaccini's Daughter," as Stevie told Performing Songwriter....

Quote:

There's a picture that Christine did, a drawing... and Chris is an incredible artist... probably twenty years ago, and she gave it to me, and it's her, it's the girl in the song. So I went back and forth about maybe calling it "Rappaccini's Daughter," but I thought I'd have to get publishing rights and all that, so I left it "Running Through The Garden."
