nicknames...
am I on a thread roll or what? :D
I'm curious...do you have a nickname or nicknames? what are they and what are their origins? EDIT: Brandon is not allowed to respond to this thread. |
when i was really little, my grandfather called me spud.
when i was in elementary school, my 4-year-old autistic neighbor couldn't say my name, so he called me dewey. that stuck for ... a long time. i don't know how he got dewey out of carrie, but he was autistic, so i didn't ask. now i just answer to "hot shiz." |

I've had a variety of nicknames in my life, with significance on a few of them. first was "Butch", which my dad has always called me since I was little. they had to stop for a short while when I was younger, as my brother was only 3 and couldn't pronounce butch so he would say "'mere bitch!"  in high school, I was branded with the nickname "That 80s Boy" by my drama teacher, for my unbridled obsession with anything 1980s. it became my gimmick in high school, so I was always good for busting out the 80s tunes when we did a play or whatnot. senior year we got a new drama teacher, who insisted she rechristen everyone with her own nicknames - I got "Georgie", as she said the 80s made her think of Boy George. go figure. these days, it's been a bevy of ploys on my real name - Nicketh and Nickiepoo (lol don't ask) are the newest two. |
Well, my real name is Catherine, but I go by Kate or Katie. My great grandmother spelled her name the same way, and her nicknames as well.
I have sooo many other nicknames, but Katums is probably the most popular. I can't remember who started calling me by that, but it stuck for years. It's such a cutesy name, too, which is definitely ironic. Another one is "Fivehead." Long story short, I was in Drawing class, and we were doing face proportions. Well, my art teacher told us to measure the length of our noses, and see how big it was compared to the forehead. My forehead? Larger. So I was like, hey, my forehead is a bit bigger. My art teacher? "Oh, Kate does have a rather large forehead!" I covered my forehead with my bangs, just to piss her off, and a friend of mine was all "oh, shut up, fivehead," and that was that. To this day, a few of my friends refer to me as Fivehead. Oh, and this is not really a nickname, but my boyfriend & some of my other guy friends call me Joan Jett. I guess it's because I have a Jett-like haircut. The MOAR you know, amirite? |
Usually it's just Ry or "hottieeeeeee".

My mom called me 'Boo Boo' a hot minute ago. Like Yogi & Boo-Boo, I guess. Lame, I know. Nowadays it's more or less Gregums, Greggie, Gweggah and other variations of it, or if you're Kate, Sugartits. I have a nice support system going. |

Hubby calls me "Dear" and I hate it. lol I wish he would call me "Sweetie" or something more younger sounding like Hot Sexy Mama:laugh:
Main nickname is Deb. |
My mom picked my name specifically b/c it doesn't have a nickname. However, my best friend calls me "ber", and my mom's nickname for me is "Mima", which is a hybrid of "Miha", a la my mexican babysitter when I was two.
|
My real name is Phillipa and I was called Pipa as a child and then it became Pip as I got older. No-one ever calls me Phillipa now
|
to my family i am GiGi, since my brothers couldn't say jill
the hubby calls me mama jama from pauls simon's "Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard Lyrics"..."Mama pyjama rolled outta bed, she ran to the police station..."   ~ i call my son boo boo kitty~ he'd kill me if he saw i typed that:lol:   ~ |
I love reading this kind of stuff.

J, Jase - the most popular nickname I have had since high school Turkey - my dad's nickname for me since I was little Frog Jr. - my great-uncle's nickname for me (he calls my dad Frog, don't know why) J. My parents called me "Kiki" when I was little. One of my cousins actually called me that first because he couldn't pronounce my name, so my parents adotped it. My dad had tons of nicknames for me as a kid.... Contessa, Peanut Head  , Pumpkin Shell, etc.
In high school, my friends called me Krista-Bear. |

Husband calls me hun (as in honey, not as in Attilla  )
Dad calls me Paulie, but with his heavy accent it sounds kind of like Pwooley. Mom calls me Paul. A couple of people at work call me Paula Jean. I don't know why & neither do they. It just stuck. Some call me P. I got "hey, Paula Abdul!" a lot in high school. You know, back when she had a music career & was coherent. Back in high school, I called a friend on the phone & her dad answered. I left a message for her to call me, but he misheard & thought I said Carla. Around the same time, my other friend decided that since I was part Polish (she is too) that I should have a -ski at the end of my name. So I became Carla Zlatski & to her, that's still my name. |

k, I need to know - any "Hey, hey Paula"'s? :p I think your official Polish/Italian name should be Carla Maria Victoria Angelina Teresa Appollonia Lozupone. |

Most of the time people at work call me by my last name. I've let them know on several occasions that I loathe and despise it, but they continue to do it. I mean it's an office, not a baseball team. Otherwise, the normal people call me Mike. Some call me Mikey, but as I was typing this out I realized that a lot of people just come up to me and say "Hey boy". Maybe I'm more ghetto then I thought? ETA: Oh yeah, Carrie and Jaz get to call me Gina. Eat your hearts out! |
Currently, people just say "Hey asshole". It works.
Former nicknames include Lisa Pisa, Lili or Li, Lola, Cyndi, Mike (a friend of mine started this, and it's stuck since 7th grade), Gia (I don't know? Another weird friend thing. I think it was the name I used to give out on the internet when people asked me what my real name was. lulz.) |
