OSOTM 1989, The Beginning of The "Modern" Stevie? Your all's opinions!!
Ok so this evening I have been feeling a little down (something that has happened a lot lately) and I was just looking at the Stevie c.d's that I have displayed on my desk. I had the new OSOTM tour c.d that I got playing and was kind of looking at the OSOTM album as well as Rock a Little.
And I got to thinking. Is it just me, or did Stevie change a lot in just her general appearance from 1985 to 1989. For Rock a Little, she still had that...... I don't really know how to describe it, but she still had the look she kind of had for the earlier albums. She looked younger and more playful or something. Then, 1989. OSOTM. As I was watching the Rooms on Fire music video, started thinking. She looks a lot older. She looks very beautiful. Very elegant. She has a just a different look than in Rock A Little, and I don't just mean outfits. She just looks more mature and elegant........ Does anyone else see this? Did she have some work done around this time, because I think it is a pretty big change in just 3ish years in time......... Anyway, hope you all have a great weekend, and are doing well. Much Love, Ethan |
What two years off cocaine can do.
Actually, what two years on Klonopin can do. |
That is kind of one of those "Captain Obvious" observations, no offense. She did turn the corner age wise right then (40 yrs. old), like everyone does. It is actually more odd that she appeared so young previous to that.
And yes, I believe she started having face work done around this time. I've noticed some interviews around there where her lips/cheeks are very stiff, even for Stevie. I actually literally spotted Botox effects with her lips/smile line area. Wait, i actually specifically noticed that for a Timespace interview, which was a couple years later. Still. |

Anyway, four years is a long time in anyone's life, and Stevie is no different. I mean, you could also say there was a significant change between 1979 and 1983. When OSOTM came out, my initial impression was that she looked a little bit "washed out," probably because back then she was big into taking those really harshly-lit portraits- where all of the facial features are washed out except for the makeup and the nostrils. Although I'm sure she has always sought and received the utmost skincare, I don't think Botox was being used cosmetically in the late 80's. I think the reason she may have looked stiffer is because she did gain a bit of weight after getting off the coke and her face filled out accordingly. She still looked good, but kinda pale and pasty. |
Well, I don't think it is a wrinkles vs. no wrinkles thing. Neither of them really do, but she just looks different..... I dunno, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this.

The most striking thing to me about The Other Side Of The Mirror cover is that the pose is incredibly odd. I wonder why she chose it. I'd love to see some of those outtakes.

To me the true end of the old Stevie was the end of the Wild Heart tour vocally , creatively and yes appearance wise she would never really be the same ,sure there were more great songs to come and performances too but in so many ways this was the end of an era IMO.The doe eyed wispy angel that had captivated so many during the time from 1975 to this time would really be no more.I saw her on this tour as well as RAL and OSOTM and enjoyed all these shows but I noted the differences .It could be argued that RAL was the end of that Stevie but by then the coke and brandy were taking much more than they gave. Some of the Wild Heart shows definately were loose .coke fueled extravaganzas but somehow it still seemed to work by Ral I don't think so.As far as cosmetic stuff it is common knowledge that she had lipo in her hips between Tango and OSOTM.

i really dont think she had lipo. maybe she got a little bit of botox, or id say more likely skin peals, but def not lipo. i think she was pretty zonked out for most of osotm and a lot of timespace due 2 the klonopin. i think she got fun attitude back and gave some amazing performances during street angel but she def looked a little more mature. im sure many of u will disagree but i think she got back a little of that young-ish cute look but during the gold dust era and esp in the december vegas photos. she just looks like shes having so much fun.

Ok, this is a really random OSOTM tour question. Do any of you all the name of the guy who played keyboards for her? the one that looks like Snoop Dogg....... What is his name?
Peace Out, Ethan |

And the pose--well, she had run out of ideas. She'd already done the graceful (Bella Donna), mysterious (Wild Heart), and pixie/rocknroll ballerina (Rock A Little). So she chose an elaborate, over-the-top pose that she probably didn't like, but thought is what her fans wanted. It pains me to look at that picture, personally. |
Ok guys, i have a question on the OSOTM concert that was posted. At the end of HAEWAFY, is Stevie really crying and if so why???? It is so heartbreaking.

Probably so. but it gets me every time... |
I would agree with the cover art... what a letdown. That whole album to me was a let down... The Kenny G, Bruce Hornsby appearances... It seemed to me like she mellowed... It was "pop" Stevie vs. "rock" Stevie.
She made up for it on the tour.... |
