Regarding the addition of album tracks they've never performed before, he said, "we've tried that before and have been met with deafening silences."

I'm assuming he's talking about audience reaction there. It's a shame that, after 40 years in the business, they don't feel that they could allow themselves the luxury of playing a few more obscure tracks than what the average casual listener would be familiar with.
But I can also see why they'd be concerned about "giving the people what they want," and when it comes to this kind of stuff, "the people" are those casual listeners and not the die-hards. Because, let's face it, die-hards will buy a ticket either way and they're not going to run off to the restrooms in mass numbers everytime the band plays an unfamiliar song.

I find it hard to believe their non hit setlist songs were met with "deafening silence". :rolleyes: I mean, c'mon, people aren't going to go to a show and not clap at all.

i think it's the way they have marketed themselves... the majority of their fans don't know Empire State, or Can't Go Back... etc....

where bands like Rush could play any song of any album and it's known by their fans because they had a sort of underground niche....

i remember watching my parents faces of horror during Mirage tour when they did Not that Funny

I always had to fast forward through NTF, or all my friends started in on "turn this **** off!"

i laughed out loud when i read that! :laugh: right after i breathed a sigh of relief that he didn't tell me to sod off. (when i read my question up there, i thought, well, man, i could have been a little less bitchy!)

i wonder what tracks he's referring to when he says they were met with deafening silence. seriously. they did new stuff from SYW, and i don't remember a single show where the songs didn't get huge applause. (course, i've always been in the first 5 or 6 rows, so i may be getting a slightly slanted view).

i'm really happy he answered - and i really hope he relays the idea of shaking things up to stevie and lindsey...

not to mention Christine's eyeliner, Lindsey sucking the microphone, stevie falling all over the place... **** i miss Fleetwood Mac that way...

I did ask John (I think during the last Q&A, last year) to see if she'd be up for one- I wrote up a whole schpiel on how easy we'd make it, how it would only be for a very short period of time if that's what she wanted etc... but I don't think it's gonna happen. :distress: But at least she is well and happy, I'm glad for that.

Though, to be fair to Lindsey, most slide players don't use picks. (Bonnie Raitt doesn't use a pick when playing slide.)

That's not what I meant. I mean additions outside fingers AT ALL!!

You've heard Lindsey on slide...what do you think he's doing on that solo in the original studio version of "Monday Morning"...and during the studio version of "World Turning"...there are a couple of other incidents where I've heard him playing slide but can't remember exactly which tunes.

And, just cuz Jeremy was imitating Elmore James' version of "Shake Your Moneymaker" on the original Fleetwood Mac recording of it, doesn't mean that they'd keep the original arrangement. I think a re-arranged version would be cool. Bob Welch used to play "Shake Your Moneymaker" as an encore tune during his French Kiss tour Neither he nor Todd Sharp played slide on that version and it still kicked ass. :thumbsup:

There are certain cities in the USA...*cough*Dallas*cough* that SUCK when it comes to concerts. These frickin' people don't know how to shut the frick up and enjoy the damn concert. :mad: They get up to pee 4 trillion times, go get more drinks, food, have the most INANE conversations with their friends, etc. You really can't do a new or rare song in one or two cities and then say "They hated it. Let's drop it." One city will suck, but the next few may go CRAZY for the song.

I tend to fast forward too on the live versions after the first ten minutes...

Anyway, reading John's great answers I realized once again how lucky we are to have this opportunity. Thanks Marty and Lis!

I've never had the chance to see FM live, but I noticed when I went to see Lindsey, everybody was thrilled with every song - the more obscure, the better it seemed. But I guess the Mac Brand has to perform consistently.
