Some news regarding Stevie's upcoming release...

From a poster on Seven Wonders:

Great news! I just received my new release listings for March. I am a store manager for HMV in Canada. For March, Stevie Nicks has 2 listings. One for a cd and one for a cd & dvd special edition. The titles of the release is still TBD. I am assuming this will be the best of and I am hoping the special edition is either a dvd of her videos or a show form the gold dust tour. It does not give the week of release in March as this is all tentative but it is comming for sure. These lists are compiled direct form Warner Music. FYI, at my last conference, the President of Warner Music Canada and I were talking about the new best of from Stevie....when it was originally planned for November and he was pretty certain there is a new track as well. Regardless, this is great news. I will keep you posted as I receive updates every week.

If you ask me, the dvd will contain the Montreux material.

I'm thinking it may just be a DVD release of In Concert. Montreaux would be 1000 times cooler, though so I hope you're right.

Either would be nice. If the DVD ended up being In Concert, maybe we'll get an unedited version?

I'd like an A+++ quality version of a Gold Dust show, shot from many angles to include the screen images, especially during Landslide, Rhiannon and BATB.

Neeeeeever gonna happen.

Is this new best of type of album an indication that her previous best of album will get out of print, and the songs that are exclusive to that disc with it? If so, I need to look at the cutout bins now...

Still, I hope that Stevie decides to put a few new tunes onto the new Best Of, including a new single for radio. Has she done some recording recently?

I'm not sure if Timespace would go OOP. I think they still make Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits, even after The Very Best of came out.

I think most of us are hoping for a new tune or two, but there's been no buzz about any new material from her at all. So I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yesh! I also hope it includes lots of awkwardly edited studio close-ups where her hair and makeup are totally different. :p

My guess would be that this will be one of those CD/DVD releases in which it is a single disc with the CD audio on one side and DVD media on the other side. The DVD side will contain most of the music videos (including one for the supposed new song), select live performance clips, a photo gallery, and perhaps even a 5.1 audio version of the CD. I would love if it also included new interview footage in which she talks about each of the songs (like the CD/DVD for Carly Simon's "Moonlight Serenade"), but I know that's wishful thinking!

whitesoxx 01-11-2007 02:02 PM

I would settle for the unedited Storytellers on the dvd :-)

Please, how many more times are we going to have to listen to her talk about Prince, John Lennon and Sly Stone?

Maybe we'll end up w/ the shelved Melbourne DVD, w/ the edited studio close-ups!

I agree... "Desert Angel" shall live in perpetuity!

Just because there hasn't been buzz doesn't mean that there are no new songs. For example, I think we were all surprised by the re-recording of "Dreams" for Deep Dish when that first debuted in Vegas. And even though she has been popping up in lots of places recently, she still has had plenty of downtime to write and record.

It will be a shame though if the rumored "new song" turns out to be a live version of "Dreams" or something like that. You know they're going to try to figure out a way to stick "Dreams" on there somehow.

Maybe, just maybe...

the release could be of 'bootleg' footage which I am now seeing in alot of newer releases.

I know, you're right. But never before has she gone on record & said that she has not been writing or recording at all, which is what she said in one of the Aussie interviews last year. Of course, a lot can change in a year. Maybe the tour with Petty has made her stronger. :D

UnwindedDreams 01-11-2007 03:34 PM

This is great new I am so happy and excited!!!

JazmenFlowers 01-11-2007 04:49 PM

I don't care what it is. a full In Concert would be fab, but just a good re-release would be good. the Melbourne show would rock. a Vegas show would rock.

I remember someone saying that the December Vegas show was recorded specifically for a release of some sort; possibly live tracks on the cd and a full version dvd.

Usually when they do that sort of thing, aren't they supposed to post disclaimer signs everywhere. I don't recall seeing any. Also, I don't recall seeing any cameras swooping around on cranes, etc. All I know is that the camera nazis were in force that night and they weren't taking any prisoners!

If they release a single or whatever, I hope it's "Rock and Roll". I think that's Stevie at her best today. Eventhough she didn't write it. Plus I think she does a very catchy version of it...musically, with the girls and all.

She did also say, though, that she had written a song called "New Orleans."
So that's a potential new track.

Joshua and I were just discussing this, and we feel that "all of the above" is actually a possibility too.
Many artists have been releasing concert DVDs that are actually made up of footage filmed at various locations.

So I imagine there's always the possibility that Stevie's DVD could comprise highlights from the four various shows that they've filmed recently (the Red Rocks show in '05, the Melbourne concert from last year, a Vegas show, and her performance at the Montreux Festival).

Exactly.
Stevie has nights where she hits certain songs out of the ballpark, but strikes out on others (ooh, the gay boy used a baseball metaphor! :D ).
So instead of a solitary performance with some brilliant moments alongside some mediocre ones, we could have a DVD that compiles the absolute best renditions of each song from the past two years of touring.

Thanks Wikipedia!

In 2006, Nicks also performed with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for the first leg of their tour in the summer, and later in the year returned as a guest performer for a number of songs on the tour celebrating Petty's 30th anniversary since his debut album. Tom Petty's Homecoming Concert in Gainesville, FL. which contained performances with Stevie Nicks was filmed for PBS Soundstage as well as DVD release for March of 2007.

estranged4life 01-11-2007 08:37 PM

Really?

someone said that?? All I know is that the Vegas Dec.2006 show is available as a bootleg DVD & CD, never saw any news reports of that show being recorded for an official release.

That's probably what the DVD reference is to... The Tom Petty DVD.

Johnny Stew 01-11-2007 10:25 PM

The original post mentioned a CD/DVD combo listed under Stevie's name in HMV's catalog of upcoming releases. They wouldn't release her 'best of' CD packaged with a Tom Petty DVD.

MacMan 01-11-2007 10:33 PM

I meant more that there is a cd and cd/dvd combo associated with Stevie Nicks being released in March - not meaning that Tom's dvd would be released under her name alone - just that she's associated with it. It could be that Tom's dvd is a dvd/cd combo and her's is the cd hense the cd and cd/dvd combo that is listed under her name:shrug:

I could be wrong, but I think Tom's DVD would be listed under his name only. I don't think they'd also list it under Stevie's name, despite her association with the release.

It probably is wise for us to all be "cautiously optimistic" though, and not get our hopes up too much!

This is what I said somewhere else also, it's quite possible. We know Melbourne was recorded, so she might have used whatever was salvagable, we know Montreux was recorded and worked on by Mark Needham, and some are fairly certain Las Vegas was recorded, so it's definitely a possibility.

Though MacMan makes a good point about the Tom Petty release, I think the original poster specifically said CD *and* CD/DVD combo special edition. I don't think TPath is releasing a new cd and it would be weird if their DVD got released in a package together with Stevie's GH album.

Any of these sound pretty good...!

Talk about the "unedited" In Concert -- what was edited out of it? Sorry! :o

JohnL 01-12-2007 02:34 PM

Edited out were...

the song Bella Donna, Angel, and maybe more I think.
