Top Design

Starting January 31st on Bravo.

Thanks to Carrie for correcting me on the name of the show. I'm excited for this Runway distraction. Bravo reality shows seem to be done in good taste, so I'm hoping to see some cool designs. Preferably designs that I can rip off and use for my own place.

Anyone else going to be watching?

JazmenFlowers 01-10-2007 11:30 PM

I'll have my ass on the couch. :wavey:

mikeschmike 01-31-2007 11:23 PM

I'm watching it now. Fairly interesting. There will be much to talk about!

you know...I ****ing forgot about this show. when you reminded me last night, I just decided to catch a rerun so I can savor it beginning to end.

so, it was good? I'm gonna hafta catch the rerun soon so we can discuss.

BTFLCHLD 02-01-2007 11:04 AM

How was this show? I intended to watch but I passed out during topchef...who won topchef?

Ilan! :blob2: :blob1: Marcel was so pissed and bitter...love it.

Anyway, Top Design was pretty good. There's a whole lotta gay on that show. Even moreso then Runway, but it's Bravo...they love the gay! I was surprised that each pair got a $50,000 budget for their room. Plus they get carpenters and seamstresses. (Those poor fashion designers on PR got leaves, string and 75 cents to make an outfit.) Hopefully the contestants on this show won't get a break all of the time.

I'll let you catch the reruns so we can discuss.

ilan won? i'm surprised. i thought it was going to be hunky sam. i saw marcel on the view this morning - i like marcel. :o i didn't get the intense hate that so many had for him.

i'm so pissed that i'm housesitting and don't have cable right now. i'll have to wait a month to watch the finale & catch up on top design.

$50,000!!!! That is a hellalot money especially if it is one room - is it one room? I was watching some of the repeats on TopChef and I am surprised that Ilan made it to the end as a winner considering through the competition there were times when the judges didn't care for his food at all. The more I watched it seems the judges were utilizing the latest submission as a guide to their decision as opposed to the overall submissions over time. I like Ilan...I am just not so sure he was the best.

I will catch up on TD...the best part is that they are gay! :D

Marcel looked like he was going to **** himself when they announced Ilan as the winner. Dude, you can at least attempt a fake "I'm happy for you" face. I don't watch the show regularly, but enough to know I don't like him - like him even less now that he blamed all the problems he had with the last meal on his sous chefs & didn't give credit to the guy for creating an entire dish until the very end. Classy.

Missed TD, fell asleep, but will def catch the reruns. "Whole lotta gay in that show." I love Mikeschmike.

Oh - I did catch the very beginning - Mike, please tell me that Oldham didn't speak that akwardly animated fake way the entire show. Please.

Yeah, Marcel and his pisspants attitude...and he wonders why he lost? He needs to get over himself. He also needs to cut his hair so he stops looking like Wolverine from X-Men.

And sorry P, but Oldham is that way through the entire show. It makes me miss Heidi's voice overs, which I thought would never ever happen. Luckily the main judge (gay man...surprised?) does most of the talking and is less involved with the "you're in, you're out" stuff. Todd explained the challenge, and came around and did the Tim Gunn thing. Ooh, that reminds me, I have Tim Gunn news. I'll find the PR3 thread.

Paula, the tuna loves you too!

Dude. He totally looks like Wolverine.

Top Design is, in true Bravo fashion, being rerun 500 times this week. I think it's on tonight at 8pm, but I can't miss Ghost Whisperer. It's also on at random times late at night, so I'm going to try & Tivo it then & watch when I can.

mikeschmike 02-05-2007 06:57 PM

Now that Top Chef is over, they've moved Top Design to 10/9 central pissy time (thanks Michelle, I will forever say it that way:nod: ). Anyway, hopefully you all won't fall asleep for it. :D

In case you're interested, you can go here and watch a cool interview with Johnathan Adler and Tim Gunn. It's interesting, precious, and oh so gay.

skcin 02-06-2007 12:24 PM

OK, I watched Top Design. I don't know how long I can deal with Todd Oldham's exaggerated speaking voice. Seriously, it's actually painful to listen to. However, the overabundance of gay catty-ness and Bitchy McBitch judges has me hooked. :D I agreed with them on the group that won as well as the group they sent home.

Is that how he normally speaks? I have a total dislike for the cheerleader zing he adds onto every third word...if that is not how he normally speaks he should be told it is hardly necessary...we are interested in viewing and don't need the added pep.

Not that I recall. I think I've seen interviews with him & I don't remember his talking like such an asshole. "OK, designers, let's SEE how you DO with this challange, alRIGHT?!?!" Really forced & fake & odd.

JazmenFlowers 02-06-2007 06:14 PM

ok, this reruns tonight right? and starts with Ep. 2 tomorrow? I've GOT to get caught up.

Did you catch it, hun? If not, they're rerunning episode 1 tonight at 9pm, right before ep. 2. I asume it will be this way every week - the previous week's ep @9pm, then the new one @ 10, ala' Runway.

BTFLCHLD 02-07-2007 12:51 PM

any favorites yet? I know we have only had one episode...but I am already cheering for one of them.

ontheEdgeof17 02-07-2007 10:58 PM

Ok. I really want to love this show. It has so much potential. Even though I will probably watch the whole season, it is already boring me. Could the judges be any more boring? I think that's the problem.....the montone judges. And the contestants are rather bland.

you took the words outta my mouth. I lost interest about 30 minutes into the first show and only came back to see who got cut. the second episode didn't pop my coochie either. the only thing really keeping me watching it was Jonathan Adler's quippy comments.

what the hell has happened to Alexis Arquette?! lol. Todd Oldham is annoying, but he seems really nice. and, for some reason, I remembered him looking much better than this. and editor-in-chief homegirl is a biotch and needs La Mer stat. oh, and, Mr. I have a wife and a daughter  I bet he is the first to hook up with one of the male roommates.

I will, however, be needing a couple of those carpenters over at my house asap.

Unfortunately so. It's no Project Runway. The designs on this show are not meeting my expectations of what level the contestants should be at.

if you so insist. but they bettah either get some drama goin on (cause there ain't NO eyecandy) or give those carpenters some more airtime!

exactly. each room looked like it was set up for a Belk's display or the local bent and dent furniture store.

ontheEdgeof17 02-07-2007 11:14 PM

Is it me or do the designers look like they smell and have really long pubic hair?

lol. and they are all so damn greasy.

and what was up with the guest judge on the second episode? they should've nicknamed her Gums'n Gut.

carrie721 02-07-2007 11:17 PM

i'm kinda glad i can't watch this show. i still can't forgive todd oldham for the ugly **** he was schlepping at target 3-4 years ago.

To be fair, for me, the first episode was background noise with only bits viewed. I may closely watch tonight's episode or a rerun. What level are they reaching with the 50g?

Their rooms are not professional looking. The painting is horrid. The fabrics are cheap. Their imaginations are as stiff as Jazzy watching Stevie twirl.

I feel like I'm watching Sesame Street, listening to Todd speak...

OMG, Curtis, the smelly, long pubes comment. :D

LOVED the Pirates of the Caribbean room. And I really liked the artist/kitty cat room too. I thought either of them should have won.

I was on the Ledge and 1/2 listening most of the time - did they ever show the kids seeing the rooms?
