I'm almost scared to look.

amber 01-10-2007 07:57 PM

Thanks Lis, thanks John! Thanks Niki! Good question.

carrie721 01-10-2007 07:59 PM

ooh, cool. niki's question was good - i wish john had answered more in depth. i find it surprising and sad that lindsey hasn't sent john UTS.

Q: Hi John, I've heard that you had a bit of an alcohol problem up until about 1987. About how much did you drink each day?
A: Lots!

skcin 01-10-2007 08:02 PM

Love that John is so candid & honest. He sounds a bit out of the loop - like the rest of the band is off doing their own thing & he's just waiting to hear from someone to tell him when they're ready for him.

So, LB did not send him a CD. And John's daughter went to LB's show, but John didn't. I don't know what to make of that. Seems odd.

Yeah, me too.

His answers never fail to crack me up though. "I've been waiting by the mailbox." :D

I've always gotten that impression really. Like 'I'm off sailing, call me when you need me to play. You guys can deal with the rest.'

he pretty much said as much on the DR doc, didn't he? when he was on the boat, bitching about having to play the same line over and over and over again.

Exactly! So it doesn't surprise me really that it seems he's out of the loop. John's cool.

gldstwmn 01-10-2007 08:08 PM

Veddy interesting. How odd that he's never received Lindsey's CD. And the whole Peter situation just seems tragic. It must be hard to be so close to people and then one day they just aren't a part of your life anymore. I hope we get to see the Peter Green film. I had no idea this was even going on. Are they making his life story? Also, what the hell is Yo Yo Man?
I love how he said "wait for it." I wonder if he's a Keith Olbermann fan.

Maybe he doesn't want to be presumptuous and figures if John wants to hear it, he'll buy it.
He doesn't want to pull a Stevie and give his solo album to someone who doesn't give a sh*t about it.

Uhm, she's mentioned a few times that she used to hand out her material to everyone she even remotely knew.

Yeah, you know the sob story she always tells about how she brought Linds a signed copy of bella donna when it came out, they were doing studio work. And he never looked at it, and never brought it home, and just left it in the studio. Her feelings were hurt, slap in the face, all that.

Probably about the time we learn to stop posting us singing here on the ledge. ie, never.

I would be. And I guess she was, or her feelings wouldn't have been hurt. :p I mean, there's a**hole, and then there's a**hole, and Linds was the second one in that sitch.

He probably thinks it is crappy and lame, I don't think he likes much of Stevie's music.
maybe we could ask john what LB thinks of BD???

Did anyone send in the question of what rumours he was talking about that are false?

You know, every coin has two sides and all that ****, but I'm still undecided about who was being the bigger asshole. Maybe we had to be there.

What could be a**holish about placing your album on a surface for someone to have?

I don't know, but everybody has a suspicion about why Lindsey didn't take it, surely Stevie must have known it was a touchy subject also.

I guess the fact that she wrote a "sweet note" to go with it makes her less assholish. ;)

At least he's much more polite with his bandmates now. ;)

But it is only "touchy" b/c LB was an A-hole. The act itself is one of generosity, there is nothing inherently bitchy about it.
I don't think Stevie thinks like that, about people being all jealous and mean spirited, so she probably didn't think LB would react that way.

danax6 01-10-2007 08:49 PM

^^
I just think there's more to the story than we know. Things don't add up. Doesn't matter anyway, it took place freakin' 25 years ago. Speaking of old days...

skcin 01-11-2007 12:18 PM

I think he probably perceived her giving him the signed copy of the album as a bit snarky. Like "look at me, I'm a big solo star, look what I did without YOUR help..." Whether she meant it that way or not.

Let's ask John if Stevie gave HIM a signed copy of Bella Donna & if he listened to it or not.

He was. I am unsure how anyone can see it any other way. I mean she was proud of her work and wanted to give it to him. The polite thing for him to have done is accept or refuse it. Instead, he ignored it, which was rude and purposefully hurtful.

Also, I do not remember La Nicks saying she gave her stuff to anyone she even remotely knew  She has had listening parties in different cities, but those often are the record company's thing and it is a common practice.

Exactly - I think people just like to ignore that LB is somewhat of a jealous jerk, esp then.

Sense the tone Jason, I was exaggerating. She mentioned a few times a lot of her friends have demo tapes because she hands them out. I think it was in reference to how some of her demos leaked out in the first place.

I asked him if there was any truth in the rumour that Mick and Stevie wanted Chris to play at the last Earls Court concert but that him and Lindsey were against it. And whether there was ever a realistic chance of her doing so.

Not very controversial

I doubt she didn't. You are in a band, make a solo album, and don't give it to your bandmates? Who could do that? Well... ;)

I also said I'd been daft enough to buy another ticket on the strength of the rumour! :D
