Question about "The Chain" on Street Angel?

As we all know Stevie did "The Chain" live solo on the Street Angel tour but was it actually part of the set list or just an extra add-on or one off?

It wasn't part of the regular setlist for that tour -- she only did it at the House of Blues.

gldstwmn 01-08-2007 06:12 PM

They actually played The Chain at her show here in Denver too on that tour.

I would still kill to see/hear this.

I posted it not too long ago. Let me see if the link is still working.

She did it in Houston TX too. I have it on CD. As far as I know, it was towards the end of the tour. I think she just added it on for the last few shows. That set list was so great ----> Rooms on Fire, Blue Denim, Talk to Me, The Chain, and Maybe Love. So great.

Dallas, too! I was at both the Houston and Dallas shows.

it seems... wrong... for one member of fleetwood mac to sing the chain at a solo show.

maybe it's just me.

it seemed wrong to me for the band to perform GDW without Stevie.

Stevie did, after all, write the lyrics (or most of them anyway) to The Chain.

And did a great job with it...

I actually loved it when she did it solo...(from the mp3 I heard)...maybe even better than Mac...

I don't think it gets better than the Mirage tour video version.

but, I agree, solo, she tore that song a new one.

The Mirage version, while vocally inrpt, is a fight on stage - and I love it!

Also - where is the pic in your sig. from?

It does seem kind of odd, since it's such a "band" song... but Lindsey was actually the first member to perform it solo, in 1992.

(I always thought it ironic that, after he had blasted Christine and Stevie in 1984 for performing so many Fleetwood Mac songs in their solo sets and saying that their shows "bordered on being lounge acts" because of it, he'd then turn around and devote half of his setlist to Mac songs. He has a mercurial personality, that one!)

LB can do no wrong - you know that - then again, he hadn't had a solo hit in years, so I guess he had to play something to sell out by half those gym halls

His most recent setlist was 60% Mac. Maybe Mick should call him and tell him to stop playing solo stuff at his concerts.

I think it's good that different lineups of Fleetwood Mac recognize the history of the band and that it has had many different lineups. I personally think that Lindsey did Oh Well a lot of justice and the "Time" lot did a grand job on The Chain:

However, I agree that Bekka singing GDW was just plain WRONG! Bekka pisses me off though. Have you seen her up there with her tambo and fake growl like some bad Stevie tribute? Bekka-"wishes she was stevie nicks"-Bramlett needs a good slappin' IMO.

LMAO!! It's not that bad. I think they did an OK version.

strandinthewind 01-09-2007 11:02 AM

To be fair, BB is a talent in her own right and deserves kudos for that. Also, I really like the GDW I heard her sing. Also, and Chili will back me up on this, that band was pretty good if not great.

Rick Vito really rocks out on it. It was a nice little surprise in the set. Back then, there really wasn't an internet where we knew the set list the night of the show.

Actually, this lineup was pretty darn horrible. I really hate the Time lineup. It's bursting with talent but it's just so bland. The songs had no flare that they had during the Rumours/Behind The Mask lineup. Even the early pre-Buckingham nicks stuff had heart and soul in every song whereas the Time bunch just didn't do it. Christine just sounds bored on all of her songs and Bekka would be good if she wasn't trying too hard to live upto Stevie. Overall, this lineup was just a random mess and the album was totally pointless.

You have no idea how many times I've almost started a thread with this topic in that other forum. Not to mention that I keep seeing a Lindsey commercial for the upcoming Houston show, and they only play 2 seconds (out of 30) of "Show You How" underneath a voiceover that says he has a new album - the other 28 secs it's Mac Mac Mac.

I agree with you in that they were forced to do the Mac stuff. Had they been creative instead, I think it would have been a much better use of that talent.

Lindsey and Stevie had to perform the older Mac stuff when they joined, too, and that didn't seem to hinder them.

As much as I love the album 'Time,' I don't think that lineup really had much chemistry on stage. At least from the footage I've seen.
In the studio, they really gelled though.

I am not entralled with LB's work on the Green stuff and other stuff and La Nicks was just on harmony and never lead. Conversely, Bekka and the gang were on lead. But, touche' I guess.

UnwindedDreams 01-09-2007 03:41 PM

IMO...that Chain from Time was terrible! That growl:eek:
